As Baby Boomers near retirement age, many feel it’s time to switch gears. Ellen A. Roth, executive recruiter and founder of Getting To the Point has discovered her own second act- author! The Empty Nesters will speak with Ellen about her passion for writing that led to her first novel Ten Fingers Touching, a bewitching fairy tale for adults. The Nesters will discuss why it’s so important for people to pursue their passion later in life.
Fairy tales are the simplest experesion of archetypal patterns. Junians love to work with fairy tales and myths to better understand our personal dream stories, which often reflect these archetypal themes. While it seem as if many of our inherited fairy tales have a patriarchal bent, it is also true that these fairy tales show us how to deal with this overbearing patriarchal attitude. Archetypal paterns self-correct, and so instead of Sleeping Beauty waiting for her prince to save her, these tales expressed what the Feminine Principle needs to learn to "do" (the masculine energy) to deal with the situation. The heroines of these tales were, in fact, learning to save themselves. That's the message we're seeing today in movies such as Maleficent and Frozen andon TV in Once Upon a Time. Cathy will also share some stories about her favorite heras/heroines: Scheherazade, Dame Ragnell and Allerleirauh.
We'll discuss what are archetypes, why it is important to understand symbolic language, why a feminist approach to fairy tales is more limiting than a symbolic one and much more. Tune in!

I began my career as an elementary teacher in the West Des Moines School District. At Iowa Public Television, I wrote educational content for the K-12 Connections Team, serving teachers and students in more than two-hundred Iowa school districts. My dream to publish a children’s picture book began on a “fairy-wing” and a prayer. With the encouragement of friends and family, I am living my dream as a children’s author. When I'm not chasing dust bunnies, or our two cats, I like to cuddle up with a good book and our son. My family lives in Waukee, Iowa.

Then, to kick off the Feminist Fairy Tale and Goddess Mythology Trilogy,....Inspired by the movie Malificient, tonight is Part 1 of Voices of the Sacred Feminine's Feminist Fairy Tale & Goddess Mythology three-bie. Tonight our guest interviewee is Charlene Spretnak discussing some of the Pre-Olympian Goddess Myths from her book Lost Goddesses of Early Greece. No doubt Charlene's books are in your personal library. We'll discuss the importance of feminist fairy tales and Goddess mythology, how so many have lost sight of what they teach us and how they're an alternative to the values of our patriarchal world. In previous weeks we've discussed giving ourselves permission to reinterpret, redefine, reimagine, and reclaim our own stories rather than accept as normal or healthy the collective patriarchal beliefs, attitudes and practices that shackle us, particularly women, in our patriarchal world.
Next week, returning to the show is foremother Barbara Walker, discussing Feminist Fairy Tales, the title of one of her older books, as well as her latest, Belief and Unbelief, being released in November by Humanist Press. Then in Week 3, I chat with Lenny Schneir, the partner of the late and beloved Foremother, Merlin Stone, author of the famous book inspiring so many of us - When God Was a Woman as well as Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood.
Welcome to the Voice Of Change. Gesine Abraham is with me today and the title of the program is: The Enchantment of Fairy Tales: Why Fairy Tales are for a Child a Soul's Delight. Over the 40 plus years I have been telling fairy tales to children as a preschool and kindergarten teacher, I have seen a consistent response among the children—fairy tales are unquestionably the most appealing and best loved of all stories in the entire realm of children's literature. One can clearly see by the look in the eyes of the children, and by the quality of their attention, that they are experiencing something both delightful, profound, and satisfying. Fairy tales are losing favor in today's contemporary culture, yet they serve an important purpose that is needed now more than ever before. By exploring the ancient origin of fairy tales, as well as the nature of the fairy tale motif and imagery, we see how fairy tales are able to provide children with deep meaning in a playful and picturesque manner. We see that fairy tales provide much needed soul nourishment for children. Gesine has been applying Waldorf early childhood principles in a variety of settings, including Head Start, play groups, day care, and private Waldorf schools. She taught kindergarten at a private K-8 private Waldorf school in Southern Oregon for 10 years. Throughout these years, Gesine has also been actively involved in parenting education, providing presentations at parent evenings, workshops, and lectures. She earned her BA degree from the World Program of Long Island University. During her undergraduate studies as a World Program student, she attended the foundation year program at Emerson Waldorf Teacher Training Institute in England. She completed her second year of Waldorf teacher training at the Waldorf Teacher Training Institute in Michigan.
