    Mangroves of Australia - Biotopes

    in Environment

Mangroves of Australia - Biotopes on Natures Talk Shows Biotopes Series will be the topic of discussion.

Mangroves are vascular plants, that is they have a well-developed system of conducting tissue to transport water, mineral salts and sugars. They are found in the intertidal zone where they are flooded by tides. Mangroves are plants that live between the sea and the land, where they are flooded by tides. This is called the intertidal zone. The word 'mangrove' is given to either an individual species or to a group of unrelated plants, living in areas that are flooded by tides.

They grow as trees up to medium height and shrubs in saline (pure seawater (3% to 4%), to water concentrated by evaporation to over twice the salinity of ocean seawater (up to 9%). They grow in the tropics and subtropics – mainly between latitudes 25°N and 25°S in sheltered areas like estuaries, river banks and marine shorelines. They may also grow in protected temperate coastal areas.

Australia has around 980,000 hectares of mangrove forests, which is less than 1% of Australia’s total forest cover.

They grow in the soft mud between the half tide and the high tide mark. Part of the root system (pneumatophores) are always above the ground level and are able to take in oxygen during low tide as the soil they grow in does not contain any dissolved oxygen.

They use salt water as a source of water for transpiration and exclude most of the salt from that water and excrete or store excess salt..

The Unknown Zone: Sleepless in America

    in Paranormal

Modern life is reeking havoc with the human body.  From working 3rd shift to combat duty, from being a long haul trucker to being overweight, from being overworked to medication interactions, our endocrine system and nervous systems are being thrown out of whack resulting in many a sleepless night.

When should school start for teenagers?  How can one quite a racing mind?  How long is too long to fall asleep?  Why do all species sleep?

But far from being just annoying, not getting proper sleep is downright dangerous.  It depresses the immune system and makes us more susceptible to cancer and alzheimer's.

The good news is there are solutions to this very common problem and Judy Sellins and Dave Turco will share them with you.

Beauty arises in the stillness-being present and mini 3 card tarot readings..

    in Spirituality

On my recent vacation to the Caribbean - Cozumel, Belize and Rotane Hondarus.

I found this to be very magical and shifted me in many ways. In Belize I found that the plants in this beautiful place- most of the plants can be made into medicines that are used to help heal a variety of ailments. ( I will only talk about 2 on my show, so many plants used for medicinal purposes are so very helpful and healing. (1 - Snake Plant- this plant is used for snake bite- the Belizeans are taught to identify the species of snake life on the island- types of coral snakes and many venomous snakes. This aids in the slowing of the venom, until a hospital can be reached. 2) Gravola tree - (Sour Sap). Soursap is the fruit of Annona muricata, a broadleaf, flowering, evergreen tree native to Mexico, Cuba, Central America, the Carribean islands of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico are only some of where this is found. this can save lives, fill up hopes and build confidence.

Have you ever gazed into the starry night or into space on a clear night: awestruck by the absolute stillness and inconceivable vastness of it.

Have listened, truly listened to the sound of a mountain stream in the forest, or to the sound from birds.

To become more aware of these things, the mind needs to be still. You may at times have to put your foot down for a moment your personal baggage of problems, of past and future, as well as all your knowledge; otherwise, you will see but not se, hear but not hear. Your total presence is needed.

Would it be there without your presence? Go deeply into it. Find out for yourself.

Stegasaurus - Species Profile will be the topic of discussion on Natures Talk Shows Fine Art of Psleontology. Stegosaurus is a genus of armored bony dinosaur. They lived during the Late Jurassic period, some 155 to 150 million years ago in what is now western North America. It was about the size of a bus and carried around two rows of bony plates along its back that made it appear even bigger.Stegosaurus has a reputation for having a small brain and one of the lowest-brain-to-body ratios among dinosaurs. "The brain of Stegosauruswas long thought to be the size of a walnut," said armored dinosaur expert Kenneth Carpenter, director of the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum in Utah.

Study: BFFs May Have Similar DNA Belinda Luscombe @luscombeland July 15, 2014

Really close friends might be as genetically similar as fourth cousins

Next time someone says “You would really like my friend, she’s just like you,” try to refrain from giving her the side eye. It turns out she might have some science to back her up. According to a new study from Yale University and the University of California at San Diego, good friends are often genetically similar, and can share as much as 1% of the same gene variants. In genetic terms, that’s a lot. As close as, say, fourth cousins.

“This gives us a deeper accounting of the origins of friendship,” says Nicholas Christakis, professor of sociology, evolutionary biology, and medicine at Yale, who co-authored the study with James Fowler, professor of medical genetics and political science at UC San Diego. “Not only do we form ties with people superficially like ourselves, we form ties with people who are like us on a deep genetic level. They’re like our kin, though they’re not.”

The study found that, oddly, close friends are often genetically similar in their sense of smell. But it also concluded that friendship may play a role in evolution. The genes that were shared by friends saw the most “evolutionary activity”, or have evolved the fastest over the past 30,000 years. Whether the friendship or the genetic similarity came first is up for debate. Do we seek out genetically similar friends or do our friendships and mating affect what genes get passed on

“Human beings are one of the few species who form long-term, non-reproductive relationships with other members of our species,” says Fowler.

Deepertruth: The Eucharistic Miracle of Augsburg Germany 1194-1199

    in Religion

The Eucharistic miracle of Augsburg, is known locally as Wunderbarlichen Gutes –“The Miraculous Good”. It is described in numerous books and historical documents that can be consulted in the civic state library of Augsburg. A stolen Host was transformed into bleeding Flesh. In the course of the centuries, several analyses were completed of the Holy Particle that have always confirmed that human Flesh and Blood are present. Today the Convent of the Heileg Kreuz (Holy Cross) is taken care of by the Dominican Fathers.

1194, a woman from Augsburg who was particularly devoted to the Most Holy Sacrament, received Holy communion. After communion, without being noticed, she put the Host in a handkerchief, took the Blessed Sacrament home and placed the Eucharistic Species in a container of wax inside a cupboard. In those days it was very difficult to find tabernacles in the church so as to be able to practice Eucharistic Worship. Only in 1264, with the introduction of the Feast of Corpus Domini (Corpus Christi) did such devotion become commonplace.

Five years passed and on the 11th of May 1199, the woman, tormented by remorse, confessed to the superior of the convent of the Heilig Kreuz, Father Berthold, who had her bring the Host back. The priest opened up the wax covering that enclosed the Host and saw that the Holy Eucharist had been transformed into bleeding Flesh. The Host appeared “divided into two Parts connected together by the thin threads of the bleeding Flesh.” Father Berthold went immediately to the bishop of the city of Udalskalk who ordered that the Miraculous Host be “transferred, accompanied by the clergy and by the people into the cathedral and exhibited in an ostensorium of crystal for public worship.”

Healing House Radio with Dr. Ayleen - The Power of Choice

    in Spirituality

There is a saying that essentially states that while we cannot choose the actions of others, we can choose how we respond to them.  Today we'll be exploring the power of choice.  Whether we are looking from the perspective of a species, a race, a nation, a community or as individuals, we have the ability to decide how we wish to navigate the sometimes tricky waters of our lives and relationships.  While sometimes it may come at a great price, we must always remember how tremendously powerful and transformational this gift of choice truly is.

I will be joining the chatroom after the show.  If you would like to find out more about me, visit my website at www.the-healing-house.com.
