Author of 18 books on leadership and communication, Dr. Gladis researches, writes, and works in all areas of leadership. As part of the George Mason University faculty, he teaches both leadership and communication courses through the Office of Continuing Professional Education. Dr. Gladis is a certified coach with the International Coach Federation, teaches courses in leadership coaching, and is currently an executive coach for the University of Virginia Darden Business School’s Executive MBA program. Previously, Dr. Gladis served as an Associate Dean and the Director of the University’s Northern Virginia Center, was a career FBI special agent, and served his country as a decorated U.S. Marine Corps officer.

Rythee is Associate Vice President of Human Resources at Washington Adventist University. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Hood College and her Master of General Administration from University of Maryland University College. Rythee has 25 years of human resources experience, including seven years at the executive level. Her background includes assignments in talent development, employee relations, organizational development, compensation, and human resource information systems. During this time, Rythee leveraged her in-depth knowledge of human resources and of team and leadership development to coach mid- to senior level leaders and teams in higher education, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
Rythee has consulting expertise that includes planning and facilitating teambuilding retreats, conducting needs assessments, and designing and delivering training programs in topics such as communication skills, harassment prevention, teambuilding, conflict resolution, and presentation skills. She is a member of the International Coach Federation, the American Society for Training and Development, and the Society for Human Resource Management.

In this first of three episodes, Greg McCann, J.D., author and director of Stetson University's Family Enterprise Center, talks about using executive coaching and self-awareness to become a better leader; the value of objective feedback; and coaching classes and goals established in Stetson’s Executive MBA program, as well as other programs.

Though executive coaching has gained wide acceptance, professional service firms have been markedly slower in embracing coaching as a way to improve performance, profitability, and satisfaction.

Maureen Moriarty is the founder of Path to Change, an executive coaching practice dedicated to helping emerging managers and senior leaders to be more effective by enhancing their ability to lead, communicate and collaborate. Path to Change helps business leaders and managers improve leadership and team performance through organizational development consulting, executive coaching and leadership development training.

A recent Gallup poll of more than one million employed U.S. workers concluded that the number one reason people quit their jobs is because of a bad boss or supervisor. Bad bosses often lack self-awareness. They don’t understand how their behavior negatively impacts their teams. According to Moriarty, it is your emotional intelligence – your capacity for self-awareness, adaptability and interpersonal communication, particularly under stress – that will ultimately determine your effectiveness as a leader.
“If you look at the research that’s been done on what derails leaders, it’s all connected to emotional intelligence,” says Moriarty. “I help my clients become more self-aware and more mindful of how their behaviors and actions impact people positively and negatively and how to be more effective under challenges. Great leaders are not born. They are molded, taught, guided and developed."
Patricia Hirsch, MCC, interviews Alain Cardon, MCC. Alain shares how over the years, working in executive, team and organizational coaching contexts has often been a challenge. Gradually working through the paradox of resistance to change or that people and systems ask for change in order to limit change, he has had to find strategies to accompany them, and himself in this exploration process. This has allowed Alain to develop specific individual, team and organizational coaching tools and strategies that he finds very powerful.
Master Certified Coach since 2002, mostly recognized for his specific competencies in systemic executive coaching, team coaching and organizational coaching, Alain Cardon is also a systemic coach trainer and coach supervisor with coach students in France, Belgium, Spain, Germany and Romania where he has opened a systemic coaching school in 2007.
As far as his personal style for executive coaching, life coaching, team coaching and organizational coaching clients, Alain has developed a direct, confronting and empowering coaching approach which may be defined as a blend of brief, systemic, creative, and breakthrough posture and techniques. Although French national and part-time resident, his intensely international personal life and career also makes it difficult to define Alain’s executive coaching heritage as originating from one or another coaching school of thought, one or another national frame of reference.
