Black Feminism: Why We Need It Now More Than Ever

    in Women

There are tons of discussions about feminism but very few black people actually know what it is about. Most have never read a book about it or even understand its history. The word itself has been used as a weapon against black women as a way of insulting them and making them feel as if they are not loyal to the race if they define themselves as feminists. The images of a group of anti male, masculine type, women who are all lesbians, springs to mind whenever the word feminism is brought up. Black women especially, have been conditioned to believe that the mythology around the word feminism makes it something they should refuse to be associated with. They havve bought into the stigmatization of the word itself, wtihout ever having even read one book about it. Black males are even worse, as they will continue to spread lies about this area of activism and any correct information about it is immediately dismissed as being "anti-black". This episode will explore the history of black feminism, how it came about, what it really is and why there is a fear of it. It will serve to inform and dispel the myths associated with black feminism and give one an insight into why it is more vital than ever to ensure that black women and men work to further its aims.

American Cave Conservation Association - David G. Foster, Executive Director

    in Environment

On Tuesday December 16th at 8pm est, 7pm cst and 5pm pst, we are excited to be welcoming Dave Foster, Executive Director of the ACCA, to Natures Talk Show to discuss cave conservation. We will learn some fascinating details of cave ecosystems and groundwater issues. There are amazing animals and plants that have evolved in cave conditions. Created on An Ecological Mandate

ACCA is concerned with all caves, regardless of their mode of origin or location. However, most caves are found in the earth's more water-soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, marble and gypsum.  The lands in which these types of caves are found are called karst or karstlands.

In karst, there is appreciable groundwater movement through dissolved-out  openings in the bedrock; karstlands often have features such as sinkholes, sinking streams, springs, and sometimes caves.

Approximately 20% of the United States is karst.  In karst, the surface and the subsurface are intimately connected; cave and groundwater resources cannot be widely used without careful land use of the surface.  Simply put, clean caves and karst equal clean water.

    in Books

The Speculative Fiction Cantina: your weekly hypodermic injection of science fiction, fantasy, horror, alternate history, and things weird and wonderful in the world of books and writers. You'll hear from writers who bend the rules and drive the narrative.  Join S. Evan Townsend on this journey over the rainbow and through the looking glass.

Today's Guests are Tina Field Howe and Logan l. Masterson

    Tina Field Howe

Tina’s first book was “Snailsworth, a slow little story,” a children’s picture book which she wrote and illustrated in 2004.

In addition to writing books and screenplays, for many years Tina has been an illustrator and her day job is in corporate communications.

Tina holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology and a Minor in Art. Tina lives in Waverly, New York. She “gives back” by speaking at career seminars at public schools, meeting with creative writing classes, and speaking to individual aspiring writers.

Mystic Moon Cafe Hosts PEDRO Paranormal Special Co-Host, Justin Gerald

    in Paranormal

Join MMC, with special co-host Justin Gerald,  this Sunday as we speak to PEDRO Paranormal. The team will cover their investigations, personal experiences, maybe some EVPs, their Ghost Hunting 101 classes, and much more! Justin has news of the demise of Shadow Chasers Investigations.

The Paranormal Encounter Documentation Research Organization (P.E.D.R.O) was founded in 2003 by Janet Reed and Joe Kline. Other members include Steve, William, Frank, Fred, and our newest addition Wendy. We also partner with other teams to promote unity and discourage the old territorial nature that a lot of teams used to adhere to.

The purpose of our group is to seek out paranormal activities wherever they might be and document them with an unbiased eye. The P.E.D.R.O. team also works diligently to promote preservation, tourism, and community service. We also assist local organizations in their efforts to promote and preserve historic sites.

P.E.D.R.O. prides ourselves on history. After four years of research and investigations we published the book Excelsior Springs Haunted Haven This book tells of the paranormal happening of this town and also the history behind them. The SyFy network show “Ghost Hunters” used the book as the basis of two episodes in their 2012 season.

The P.E.D.R.O. team differentiates itself by being a very open investigation team. We do many public events such as open investigations, educational lectures, and radio shows. You can follow the team at www.facebook.com/pedroparanormal to keep up on our future events.

So please join us! Listen on your computer or phone, post questions in the chatroom, or even call in.
