The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Scott Mitchell.
Scott Mitchell was a standout athlete growing up, excelling in football and setting the course for his impressive career in the NFL. He was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Springville, Utah with three older sisters. After attending the University of Utah, Mitchell played 12 seasons in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Dolphins and backed up Pittsburgh-born Hall of Famer Dan Marino. In 2010, Mitchell was inducted into the University of Utah Hall of Fame.
Mitchell's biggest motivation for going on the show THE BIGGEST LOSER was seeing his dad die of obesity-related causes early this year, causing personal concerns that he could be headed down the same path if he did not choose to change his lifestyle. At 46 years old and 366 pounds, Mitchell has sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Weight has been an issue for Scott since he was about 35, mainly due to a busy life and poor diet. As a devoted and loving father, and with five kids ranging in age from 11 to 21, he wants to be sure he will be there for his family, a decision which made him ready to embrace a healthy lifestyle. When he loses the weight, Mitchell says he wants to look amazing in clothes and be physically active.

THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: The “isms” most common in American daily dialogue include sexism, racism, individualism and cynicism. However, there are over 200 different “isms.” Each term and its associated thoughts and actions represent a philosophical, political or moral doctrine or a belief system. In the United States today, our society’s philosophies, politics and belief systems vary in many ways and for many reasons. Some positions taken are viewed as essential to our country’s democracy. Most are honesty embraced by passionate believers. However, they all have at least one thing in common. They generally find a way to discriminate, in some form, against other Americans. Americans who, in spite of the realities, must also strive to live a full life. How have Americans historically succeeded and excelled against such odds?
Matthew C. Whitaker, Ph.D. is currently ASU Foundation Professor of History and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. He holds a BA in sociology and a BA in history from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in history from Michigan State University. He specializes in U.S. history, African American history and life, civil rights, race relations, social movements, sports and society, and the American West. He is also the owner and CEO of The Whitaker Group, LLC, a human relations, cultural competency, and diversity consulting firm. He is the author of a new book titled, “Peace Be Still: Modern Black America from World War II to Barack Obama.”
Reginald T. Dorsey
American Film and Television Actor/Filmmaker Reginald T. Dorsey was born and raised in Dallas, Texas until he was 10 years old. His family then moved to San Jose, California where he was an outstanding student and High School athlete, excelling in football and track. The quest for him to act proved to be more powerful though than his athletic dreams. After attending an open call with his mother back in Dallas for extra work in the film "Book Of Numbers," Filmmaker Raymond St.Jacques spotted the young 13 year old and wrote a lead part in the film for him.
The rest is history as they say and at 16 years old he left home for Hollywood to pursue his calling as an actor and filmmaker. Now a veteran in the film and t.v. business his respect and passion for his craft is even greater after many years of sacrifice and dedication. His credits are extensive, "MIRACLE OF THE HEART; A BOYS TOWN STORY," "21 JUMP ST.," "BOOKER," "RETURN TO LONESOME DOVE," Critically Acclaimed "SOUTH CENTRAL," "THE CHEROKEE KID" and The Award Winning "KINGS OF THE EVENING," which he also Produced are just a few from his body of work.
Shocking images out of a classroom in Jacksonville, Florida illustrate how 11-12 year olds in 6th grade are being taught how to use strap-on dildos amidst a debate about Common Core sex education standards which have been attacked by some as ographic.
The pictures were taken by a student with a cellphone camera. They show a teacher demonstrating how to use a strap-on sex toy in a number of different positions.
In one image, the teacher even shows how to insert the strap-on while her buttocks are in the air and her legs up over her head.
In another image, the woman shows the children how to wear a harness to which the strap-on is attached.
Clinton Middle School in Duval County hired 39-year-old Sharon Mercer to teach the sex education class but after the photos emerged she was suspended and the school refused further comment. Mercer claimed her suspension was an act of “bigotry” because she was a “proud member of the LGBTQ community.”
Newly implemented Common Core educational standards have been assailed for their attempt to create a lowest common denominator form of teaching which many assert only works to dumb down lessons and prevent smart students from excelling, but these images give a glimpse into an even darker side to the federally mandated rules.Common Core Article Plus HeadLines.
