Vincent "The Chin" Gigante was once a big Bobby Gonzalez fan

    in Basketball

On SheridanHoops.com, coach Bobby Gonzalez tells a great New York story.

Years ago, he was having dinner in the famous Italian restaurant on the Upper East Side, Campagnola's, out celebrating his second NCAA run as the coach of the Manhattan Jaspers. The maitre d came over said some gentlemen at a nearby table would like to send over a bottle of wine, and would like to meet and thank you.

So I naively looked at the table full of recognizable characters with pinkie rings and said "Thank me for what?"

One guy looked familiar to me, and it was because his picture was often on TV and in the papers as a don of the Genovese crime family who was known to walk around Greenwich Village in a bathrobe to make the authorities believe he was crazy. He was Vincent "The Chin" Gigante.

He motioned me over, saying he and his crew wanted to meet and thank me as they had won a lot of money on Manhattan beating Florida in the tourney.

After I told him I don't gamble or know much about it, he explained we started as an 11-point underdog by the time the game started people liked my team's chances so much it dropped to 5. After we went on to win by 15, they were all very happy.

I then told him I didn't want to accept the wine as I also don't drink, but I thanked him very respectfully. Gigante and his dinner companions all said they would be following and rooting for me as their favorite coach.

I laughed and thought to myself "Only in New York."

And with that intro, here is my latest NCAA Tournament interview from Sports X Radio with Ken Thompson, a show based out of Vegas.

Another Fork in the Road: Lisabeth Mackall, Caregiver, Therapist, & Author

    in Education

When Lisabeth Mackall opened her front door at 2:30am on January 2, 2012, it changed her life forever. She learned that her husband, Police Officer Frank Mackall, had been in a serious motor vehicle accident while on duty, and had been airlifted to a hospital. When Lisabeth opened her front door, she unknowingly entered the world of brain injury. She had to follow “Another Fork in the Road.” Lisabeth will share how she and her family picked up the remnants, pieced them together with patience, persistence, and love, and forged a new life.

Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, an IED blast, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slips from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating.

But as Yogi Berra once said, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” Life is all about choices!

RESCHEDULED! Stephanie, PCOS, Possibly Cushing's Patient

    in Health

Her bio states: "Hi. My name Steph, and this has been a long journey for me so far, and I see a long road ahead. Hopefully their will be a rainbow once all these clouds have melted away. I just turned 33 years old (this month) and have been dealing with symptoms of Cushing's since I was a pre-teen without even knowing it. I was diagnosed (or possibly mis-diagnosed) with PCOS when I was about 11. That's when the irregular (to almost non-existent) menstrual cycles, hirutism (chin, upper lip, upper and lower thighs, fingers, toes, basically everywhere) and weight problems began. I was immediately put on birth control to regulate my periods, which only made my life a living nightmare. They forced on a fake (non-ovulating) period and made my moods a disaster. I went on to be on birth control until from the age of 11 until about 3 years ago when I just couldn't take it anymore, and took myself off. I've been using herbal supplements for menstrual regulalation since then, and feel MUCH better. Over the years I've always felt like there was something "more than PCOS" wrong with me. From the extreme inability to lose weight normally, and the ease to gain it, to the weak legs, vitamen d insuffeciency, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, extreme irritability, now non-existent cycle, shortness of breath (just from walking up 1 flight of stairs), slow healing, hoarse voice, high testosterone, male pattern baldness, blurry vision, EXTREME brain fog etc..... It has been very, very, very tough and emotional over the years. It has taken a toll on my personality, emotions, and those around me....

Richard M. Kiernicki Author and Financial expert

    in Women

    Richard M. Kiernicki

Richard Kiernicki considers the past thirty years to have been some of the most exciting times in the professions of finance, motivation and personal transformation. He also believes that the future of these industries holds nothing but unlimited potential and possibility. While the Canadian financial industry experienced explosive growth and the fields of self-help and transformation were rapidly gaining acceptance and worldwide momentum, Richard found his place in that ever evolving and expanding world.

Fortunate to have an open mind, deep intuition and a strong commitment to move ahead in his life, “he did not do what was the easiest and most expeditious, he chose to do what was right” according to a 1997 letter from his partner Michael Lee-Chin at AIC. After all, Richard strongly agreed with Michael on this point: your reputation is absolutely vital to your success. Richard’s other mentors and business partners include and are not by any means limited to Napoleon Hill, Bob Proctor, Viktor Frankl, Brian Tracey, Anthony Robbins, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, Lise Janelle, Sir John Templeton, Peter Cundill, Peter Lynch and Warren Buffett. He has learned to follow examples set by those who are considered to be the absolute best in their areas of expertise and those that exemplify honesty, dedication, ethics and commitment. These individuals continually seek to differentiate themselves from the rest of the crowd by being examples of living according to the highest degree of personal values and integrity. Richard then integrates those values into his own life and passionately shares those principles with his family, his friends and his clients.
