Deepertruth: The Eucharistic Miracle Of Santarem 1247 (7:00 P.M. Central)

    in Religion

    A Bright Light

With some eucharistic miracles, the host emits a bright light. In 1247, for instance, a woman in Santarem, Portugal, was concerned about her husband’s faithfulness. She went to a sorceress, who promised the woman that her husband would return to his loving ways if the wife would bring a consecrated host back to the sorceress. The woman agreed.  At Mass, the woman managed to obtain a consecrated host and put it in a kerchief, but before she could return to the sorceress, the cloth became bloodstained. This frightened the woman. She hurried home and hid the cloth and host in a drawer in her bedroom. That night, the drawer emitted a bright light. When her husband saw it, the woman told him what had
happened. The following day, many townspeople came to the house, attracted by the light.

The people reported the events back to the parish priest, who went to the house. He took the host back to the church and put it in a wax container where it continued to bleed for three days. The host remained in the wax container for four years. One day when the priest opened the tabernacle door, he saw that the wax had broken into numerous pieces. In its place was a crystal container with the blood inside.

The house where the miracle took place was converted into a chapel in 1684. Even today, on the second Sunday of April, the incident is re-enacted in the Church of St. Stephen in Santarem. The reliquary that houses the miraculous host rests above the tabernacle in that church, and it can be viewed year-round from a set of stairs behind the main altar.

Deepertruth: Sister Briege McKenna’s Witness of A Eucharistic Miracle (7:00 PM)

    in Religion

Today Sister Briege McKenna’s healing ministry is totally centered on the Eucharist.  During a special retreat for sisters a few years ago, she shared a remarkable story of how Jesus led her to this Eucharistic centering.

Sr. McKenna writes, “I had a big problem. After my own dramatic healing and then receiving the gift of healing many others, I was worried because so many people, were coming to me.  In less than one year, so many headings were taking place, that the people wanted to make a saint out of me, even asking for relics…cloth from an old habit, my hair trimmings, etc. I was astounded and disturbed by it… and then there was the way that some people wanted to touch me, as if they would be healed or graced by doing so.”

(Editors note:  Acts 19:11-12 states, “ And God did extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.”)

“I loved the people, but I did not like what was happening. There was a danger that, instead of directing people to the Lord or to the Mass, they had come just to see me.  I certainly knew that, of myself, I had absolutely no power, and that it was Jesus Who was doing the healing; that I was only His chosen instrument. However, even to be chosen by Him was itself an extraordinary gift. Pride could step in, and one could begin to believe that one is better than other people.  In a certain way, I felt that I was becoming a celebrity, and I knew that it was neither true, nor good for my soul.

Deepertruth: Eucharistic Miracle of Cimballa, Spain, 1370 (7:00 P.M Central)

    in Religion

During the celebration of Holy Mass on Sunday, after having pronounced the words of the consecration, Don Tommaso  saw Blood flowing from the Host which had transformed into flesh; so much that the altar-linens were saturated.

The penitent priest began to weep from remorse. The faithful, seeing how he was troubled, quickly looked to the altar and saw the miracle. The relic was then taken in procession and the news spread everywhere. There were many miracles attributed to the “Most Holy Doubtful Mystery” and since then has always been a great object of devotion on the part of the faithful. The episode re-enforced the wavering faith of the priest who penitently retired to a monastery, dedicating himself to a life of penance and prayer. Every year on the 12th of September, the memory of the miracle in the parish church is celebrated where, even now, the relic of the corporal soaked in the Blood is kept.

The relic of the altar linen soaked in the Precious Blood has been exposed on the 12th of September every year; the anniversary of the feast of the miracle of the Precious Blood.

Deepertruth: The Eucharistic Miracle of PATIERNO (NAPLES) Italy 1772

    in Religion

In 1772, unknown thieves stole a certain number of consecrated Hosts that were found a month later in the lands of Duke Delle Grottolelle underneath manure. However the Sacred Hosts were completely intact. The
appearance of mysterious lights and a dove made it possible to see where the Hosts were buried. Saint Alphonsus Liguori described this miracle in detail and took the opportunity to re-awake the faith and devotion of the people towards the Eucharist.

The Vicar General, Monsignor Onorati drew up the minutes of the diocesan trial which lasted two years from 1772 to 1774. In the minutes it was stated that the appearance of the lights and the intact preservation of the consecrated Hosts “has been and is an authentic miracle operated by God to illustrate more and more the truth of the Catholic dogma and increase the worship towards the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist.”

Among the various testimonies there were also those of three renowned scientists of the time among which was Dr. Domenico Cotugno of the Royal University of Naples and they all agreed in saying that “The intact preservation of the Hosts cannot be explained with physical principles and they surpass the power of natural agents. Therefore, they must be considered as miraculous.” In 1972 Professor Pietro De Franciscis, teacher of human physiology at the University of Naples confirmed the above statement.

Deepertruth: Eucharistic Adoration and Miracles of Padre Pio

    in Religion

"My heart feels as if it were being drawn by a superior force each morning just before uniting with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. I have such a thirst and hunger before receiving Him that it's a wonder I don't die of anxiety. I was hardly able to reach the Divine Prisoner in order to celebrate Mass. When Mass ended I remained with Jesus to render Him thanks. My thirst and hunger do not diminish after I have received Him in the Blessed Sacrament, but rather, increase steadily. Oh, how sweet was the conversation I held with Paradise this morning. The Heart of Jesus and my own, if you will pardon my expression, fused. They were no longer two hearts beating but only one. My heart disappeared as if it were a drop in the ocean." (Bl. Padre Pio)

Deepertruth: The Eucharistic Miracle Of Canosio Italy 1630

    in Religion

This particular Eucharistic miracle features a pastor, Father Antonio Reinardi, whose deep faith in the Eucharist was responsible for saving the village of Canosio from the torrential floods of the Maira River with a blessing of the Blessed Sacrament. There were many conversions among those who witnessed the miracle and to this day the townspeople of
Canosio celebrate a feast during the Octave of Corpus Christi to commemorate the miracle.  Canosio is a small village in the region of Val Maira, in the Diocese of Saluzzo. In 1630,
its townspeople had grown cold in their religious observance due to the spread of the Calvinistic heresy. A day after the feast of Corpus Christi, the river at Maira flooded because of a torrential rainfall. The flood waters were so violent and powerful that some massive stones were dislodged from the mountain and threatened to destroy the valley and the village itself! Father Antonio Reinardi , the pastor of the town, assembled the townspeople with the ringing of the church bells and exhorted them to pray that the Lord would stop the flood.

He vowed that if the village of Canosio were spared from the flood’s destruction, the townspeople would celebrate in perpetuity an annual feast of Corpus Christi. Father Reinardi then placed the Sacrament in the monstrance. He processed towards the raging flood with some of the faithful as they all recited the "Miserere" Psalm 51. After he blessed the raging waters, the rain stopped at once and the flood waters peaked and returned to their normal level. This incident revived the faith of the townspeople of Canosio and to this day they observe the vow that was made.

Free for All Friday: 31 Days of Mountaintop Miracles & Headlines

    in Christianity

On this special edition of Free for All Friday, Randall and Stacy are going to share an interview that took place at The National Religious Broadcasters Convention.   The interview is with author Susie Jenkins, who wrote the book 31 Days of Mountaintop Miracles: One Woman's Legacy of Unconditional Obedience.

Miracles by definition are extraordinary events manifesting a supernatural work of God—an unusual event or accomplishment, a wonder, a marvel. A never-ending supply of miracles have made up Susie Jennings life since November 1993, when she and a group of volunteers distributed 100 new blankets to the homeless living under the Canton Street bridge overpass in downtown Dallas. In 31 Days of Mountaintop Miracles, Susie shares the legacy of a blanket distribution project that through God’s grace and guidance has grown from an unthinkable tragedy into Operation Care International (OCI), a worldwide outreach ministry, dedicated to caring for the homeless in Dallas, Texas and impoverished children around the world. With a spirit of unconditional obedience, Susie and her OCI Team have reached over 130,000 homeless men, women and children in the Dallas Metroplex area and conducted major outreach efforts to change the lives of thousands of impoverished children in nine countries, including; the Philippines, India, Africa, Taiwan/China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Jordan, and Israel. OCI has been faithful in carrying the message of love and hope to those in need through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With over 3,000 volunteers and serving 8,500 + homeless, OCI hosts the nation’s largest Christmas party for those in need, held every December since 2004 at the Dallas Convention Center.
