There is nothing like being emotionally moved by a piece of art. Whether it be a painting, sculpture, or some other form of creativity; the overall impression can be lasting and coerce us to rethink how we view ourselves and the world around us.
Manifest Justice is a large-scale pop-up art exhibition, cultural convening, and community organizing event taking place in the Baldwin Hills area of South Los Angeles. Unlike other civil rights exhibits that highlight events from the 60's, Manifest Justice is hauntingly current. Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Oscar Grant are but a few of the many victims who have been immortalized through the works of over 150 artists.
Tonight I will be joined by Nijeul Xavier Porter, a young man who is instrumental to the success of the event; and Gabriel Garcia Roman, an artist who has works on display at the event. Both will share why the event is important -especially in today's social climate-and what it means to be a part of the experience.
We will be disussing some personal issues related to how husbands and wives communicate feelings and how we all have to come to understand the language of love and speak that language in order to operate in love. Coming to acknowledge that the way we talk to our mates, our tones, our body language and our words can either make the communication easier for our mates or cause them to shut down completely in response. Though we are here in this world, we are not of this world, and we must realize that our conformity to the things of this world has caused our relationships to shatter as we alienate ourselves from each other, therefore making it impossible to operate in love.
[ZEPHANIAH 3:9-13 God Is in Charge at the Center ] “In the end I will turn things around for the people. I’ll give them a language undistorted, unpolluted, Words to address God in worship and, united, to serve me with their shoulders to the wheel. They’ll come from beyond the Ethiopian rivers, they’ll come praying— All my scattered, exiled people will come home with offerings for worship. You’ll no longer have to be ashamed of all those acts of rebellion. I’ll have gotten rid of your arrogant leaders. No more pious strutting on my holy hill! I’ll leave a core of people among you who are poor in spirit— What’s left of Israel that’s really Israel. They’ll make their home in God. This core holy people will not do wrong. They won’t lie, won’t use words to flatter or seduce. Content with who they are and where they are, unanxious, they’ll live at peace.”
Beyond the Cover is brought to you by the Suspense Radio Network and hosted by John Raab and Jeff Ayers.
Tonight's guest will include Exective Director of Thriller Fest Kimberley Howe. Don't miss any of the action as we give some book reviews and talk about what is going on in the industry and how to get you reviwed or published.
