This week, we're bringing you a special roundtable interview with the artists on the upcoming Bands On The Run Tour - Doc Walker, The Road Hammers, and Blackjack Billy.
Doc Walker is dropping their eighth studio album - appropriately titled The 8th - on Oct. 21st, featuring the already-hit singles "That's How I Like It" and "Shake It Like It's Saturday Night." It's the band's first full-length without longtime member Murray Pulver, so we'll talk about readjusting to life on the road and how the new material will take shape on the stage.
As for the Road Hammers, their record Wheels has been doing well since dropping earlier this year. Frontman Jason McCoy talks about some of the differences between performing as a member of the trio vs. his solo tours and a lot more. Noll Billings, vocalist with Blackjack Billy, also weighs in on the band's experiences in Canada thus far and what they're anticipating for this upcoming run with their friends.
Finally, in CM Academy, we speak with James Boyle, the current executive director of the Halifax Pop Explosoin, who's getting ready for his first run at the helm. The lineup this year features acts like Against Me!, Danny Brown, and our Nov/Dec 2014 cover artists, Zeds Dead. We'll chat about what's going on leading up to this edition and what fans should be looking forward to.

THE PERCEPTIONS PROJECT - “It’s a matter of perception.”
I find it fascinating when people talk about words or ideas as if their meaning is universal. For example, “Freedom”. Freedom is a word/concept that’s often plagued with idealisms and xenophobic rhetoric when actuality, it may look vastly different for any two people from the exact same background and upbringing much less people from different countries. With this in mind I’ve written five short films simply titled: Peace, Love, Hate, Fun, and Freedom.
On October 22, at Noon, my guest will be Dr. Jomarie Zeleznik. Dr. Zeleznik is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. From 1995 until 2004 she trained geriatric fellows, internal medicine and family medicine residents, and medical students at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Zeleznik established Comprehensive Geriatric Care in 2004 as an office-based solo medical practice with home visits to for those patients who because they became homebound could no longer travel for primary medical care in the office. Informed by the experience of being one of the many hands-on caregivers for her own home-bound mother who died at home of complications of Parkinson's disease and the challenges of obtaining care in the home, Dr. Zeleznik remade Comprehensive Geriatric Care as direct primary care practice which provides accessible and individualized primary and palliative care to those elderly who cannot leave their homes. Dr. Zeleznik is a co-founder of The CareGivers’ Project, a not for profit which is an on and off-line organization where caregivers for elderly can express and reflect about the complexities of being a caregiver through written and visual material and get-togethers.

Heliosaga- “Towers In The Distance” is the anticipated album rooted deep in European tradition, combining the best elements of power, symphonic, and gothic metal. Drawing comparisons from such bands as Xandria, Delain, and Leaves Eyes.
The name Heliosaga is a metaphor derived from helios, the Greek word for sun, and saga meaning the story/ history; thus, Heliosaga represents the journey of life.
“Towers In The Distance” lyrics are deeply personal, and the primary themes revolve around the state of the world, mortality and the personal struggles that all encounter. Mixed by Michael Hansen (Phonomik, Chainfist) at Phon Studio and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Epica, Volbeat) at Hansen Studios. Bass guitar tracks were recorded by Chad Novell (Fibonacci Sequence) and a guest guitar solo was performed by Gilbert Pot (Elegy).
Heliosaga was founded in 2010 by Damien Villarreal (keys/guitar) in San Antonio, Texas, soon after joined by Jordan Ames (drums). By September of 2010, the line-up was complete and the first practices were held. The ensuing year would see a five song demo, the first shows and various line-up changes. In 2012, Chelsea Knaack joined as lead vocalist and the band recorded the single “The Light of Ardor”, which was released in January 2013. Shortly before the recorded single was release, the band relocated to Minnesota and continued the writing process.
Grammy®, Stellar, and Dove-award nominated singer Anita Wilson keeps Urban Contemporary music alight with her unparalleled fusion of Gospel and Soul music. First finding recognition as part of the Grammy-award nominated ensemble Donald Lawrence & Co., Wilson’s beeline to the solo stage – via her debut album Worship Soul– came as a celebrated breakthrough. Recognized by the New York Times’ Ben Ratliff as one of “2012’s top ten albums” across all genres, Worship Soul wielded the memorable hits “Jesus Will” and “Speechless” and introduced the masses to Wilson as a new frontrunner for Urban Contemporary Gospel. ?
Her sophomore album, VINTAGE WORSHIP, follows in its predecessor’s stead by unveiling a collection of masterfully crafted tunes with ingredients of classic gospel, funk, soul, pop, and R&B. Citing gospel greats such as The Hawkins, The Clark Sisters and The Winans as musical influences for the album, Wilson also drew from a well of R&B/Soul favorites like Eddie Kendricks, Lalah Hathaway, Chaka Khan, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Evelyn Champagne King and many more to create a melting pot of sounds.
