    Private Exchanges and Pet Insurance

    On this morning's program, the hosts will be discussing private health insurance exchanges, pet insurance and more with special guests from Accenture and Hartville Pet Insurance Group.


    For the first segment on today's program, Scott Brown, Private Exchange Offering Lead at Accenture, will be joining the program to discuss the firm's latest private exchange research. Accenture estimates enrollment in private health insurance exchanges doubled to six million individuals for the 2015 plan year. The company projects hypergrowth will continue through 2018, as a number of factors inhibiting early growth will dissipate, while several accelerators will spur further adoption. These factors, combined with the employer’s desire to meet consumers’ demand for choice and flexibility in a retail-like shopping experience, will lead to 40 million members on private exchanges by 2018.


    The second guest on this week's program will be JoAnne Novak, AVP Business Development at Hartville Pet Insurance Group, providers of ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.  As one of the oldest and largest pet insurance providers in the U.S., Hartville has committed itself to helping more pet parents have access to reliable and affordable pet insurance plans. According to the American Pet Products Association, roughly 68 percent of U.S. households have a pet, and last year, over $15 billion was spent on veterinary care. In this segment, JoAnne will discuss what’s driving the increasing demand for pet health insurance as a voluntary benefit as well as what makes pet insurance relevant for the workforce in connection with health care consumerism and private exchanges.

    Housing inventory just broke 600 active units for sale in the SCV

    Real estate buyers in the Santa Clarita Valley markets have been dismayed as of late because of the less than adequate inventory. It's causing them to slow down their approach and viewing of real estate, simply because there are not very many homes for sale. A few months ago I opined that there would be more units coming on the market for sale in the Santa Clarita Valley cities. And that is starting to come true.  Looking back only a couple weeks ago we had 545 to 565 units for sale here in the Santa Clarita Valley City. I am only speaking about active homes. Not those homes and back up position, and not those homes in pending position, which are both categories of escrow. I'm speaking of the homes that are actually 100% active with in the Santa Clarita multiple listIng service. Santa Clarita Valley has a total of 612 active units for sale. 364 homes are in backup position which is Escrow. 278 homes are  Santa Clarita Valley has a total of 612 active units for sale. 364 homes are in backup position which is Escrow. 278 homes  are intending position which is also escrow. We have 143 new units for sale that it has the Santa Clarita Valley market in the past seven days. I am currently monitoring 69 residential listings that have had their prices changed during the past seven days. 36 properties have fallen out of escrow and are now back on the market for sale in Santa Clarita.  89 real estate listings are currently or have entered the back up position in escrow during the past seven days.     Financial elder abuse overview under California law

    Introduction


    Financial elder abuse is on the rise in California.  People are living longer due to advances in science, medicine, health, fitness and nutrition.  At the same time, "seniors" (those over 65 years of age - which is still relatively "young" if you think about it) are some of the sole survivors of the "mortgage meltdown" and they are oftens the victims of financial fraud and "elder abuse."  This husband and wife podcast discusses what elder abuse is, how to spot it, and the types of legal claims we handle as a California financial elder abuse law firm.


    Common perpetrators of financial elder abuse 


    1.  Attorneys (these professionals are in a position of "trust" and "confidence" and can unduly influence, coerce,  misinform and cause seniors to make very bad financial decisions that can affect real estate, and stock portfolios).  Attorney malpractice is another common claim in this area.  We have seen "counseling" that has resulted in the loss of substantial equity in residential and commercial real estate estate.


    2.  Car dealerships (Car dealerships can try to "steal your trade" or engage in "bait and swtich advertising" or sock you away in a car loan that


    3.  Friends


    4. Insurance


    5. Family (kids who see their parents as easy targets).  


    6.  Mortgage brokers (lenders and loan officers can sock a senior away - and take exorbitant loan fees - to steer an elder into an unconscionable predatory loan (ex. a negative amrotization or "option arm loan") or fail to advise as to the advisability (or non-advisablity) of a reverse mortgage.  These fees can be "taken" in bad faith resulting in serious daamges to an elder.
