    American Sniper or American Taliban?

    in Politics Progressive

Well, the figures show that American Sniper will break all time records, and Selma is not doing so hot.  And I see that the so-called right wing is gloating that the "lefties" have been hammered.  Really!  In these two hours we will look at what this means, and to me it is very scary.  Your host Bob Kirkconnell, author of American Heart of Darkness, welcomes you to the discussion and invites you to visit his pages below, if you want to know where we are now and how we got here!

    Left Turn and The Dialogue

    in Politics

1st hr. 'Left Turn w/ Stewart Alexander'
    2nd hr.'The Dialogue'

On 'Left Turn with Stewart Alexander', Bob Maschi, writer and social activist, returns!
Under discussion:"The Real State of the Union:
As most of us expected, President Barack Obama delivered a great State of the Union Address; however, beyond reading a great oratorical SOTU speech, how much substance was actually in it? We will also discuss where the Obama administration has fallen short and where the president has delivered (or not) on his promises over the past six years. Bob Maschi always delivers!
In 'The Dialogue., Karen Christine Patrick and Ruthann RA Amarteifio discuss the B.I.G. idea from a historical perspective. (Basic Income Guarantee)
Reminded last week of the visionary legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., we learn that King advocated some kind if Income Guarantee. His advocacy for this solution to poverty is in the last book hewr ote before his death, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community? (New York: Harper & Row, 1967)
An article about King's final wise words about an income guarantee are found at http://www.progress.org/banneker/kingsay.html and King states, "The problem indicates that our emphasis must be two-fold. We must create full employment or we must create incomes. People must be made consumers by one method or the other. Once they are placed in this position, we need to be concerned that the potential of the individual is not wasted. New forms of work that enhance the social good will have to be devised for those for whom traditional jobs are not available."
