Wayne M. Wormley. Diversity 3.0 or Are We Diverse Yet?

    in Business

Beginning in the 1980’s, with the increased awareness of the changing demographics of the U.S. workforce, diversity entered the workplace vocabulary to describe all the things that make us human, both differences and similarities, and may impact performance and productivity.  Now, some thirty years later we as a society continue to struggle with various dimensions of diversity, including race, gender, generational differences in values and work ethic, sexual orientation, religion political affiliation, and basic values.  Corporations now talk about employee engagement and inclusion, instead of managing diversity per se, and still find it difficult to attract and retain the best and brightest talent.  Our discussion will focus on the past, present and future of living and working with one another as human beings, and where we seem to be headed.

Wayne M. Wormley, President, The Wormley Company

The Wormley Company, has an extensive network of consultants and trainers, provides clients with cost-effective solutions to interpersonal and organizational performance and productivity issues, by creating a work environment in which everyone can do their best work and achieve their full potential. They also work with entrepreneurs and small businesses to help them become profitable, going concerns, through coaching, advice and guidance.

    Private Exchanges and Pet Insurance

    in Business

On this morning's program, the hosts will be discussing private health insurance exchanges, pet insurance and more with special guests from Accenture and Hartville Pet Insurance Group.

For the first segment on today's program, Scott Brown, Private Exchange Offering Lead at Accenture, will be joining the program to discuss the firm's latest private exchange research. Accenture estimates enrollment in private health insurance exchanges doubled to six million individuals for the 2015 plan year. The company projects hypergrowth will continue through 2018, as a number of factors inhibiting early growth will dissipate, while several accelerators will spur further adoption. These factors, combined with the employer’s desire to meet consumers’ demand for choice and flexibility in a retail-like shopping experience, will lead to 40 million members on private exchanges by 2018.

The second guest on this week's program will be JoAnne Novak, AVP Business Development at Hartville Pet Insurance Group, providers of ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.  As one of the oldest and largest pet insurance providers in the U.S., Hartville has committed itself to helping more pet parents have access to reliable and affordable pet insurance plans. According to the American Pet Products Association, roughly 68 percent of U.S. households have a pet, and last year, over $15 billion was spent on veterinary care. In this segment, JoAnne will discuss what’s driving the increasing demand for pet health insurance as a voluntary benefit as well as what makes pet insurance relevant for the workforce in connection with health care consumerism and private exchanges.

The Wine of New York's Finger Lakes

    in Entrepreneur

According to Wine Enthusiast magazine, in 2014 New York State ranked as the third most important wine-growing region in the US, after California and Washington state.‎

In this Interview, Rachel Bovard, a fellow upstate New Yorker and part-time employee at DCANTER, will share her  impressions of the wines of the Finger Lakes.  She is a Level 1 Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and a Diploma Candidate in the Wine and Spirits Educators Trust (the pre-requisite for Master of Wine).  During the discussion Rachel will make the case for cool climate grapes, stating that lighter tasting wines should merit no less consideration than warm climate wines in California and France.

Some of the wines and wineries she will touch on include a Cabernet Franc from Ravines Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake,  a Cabernet Sauvignon from Casa Larga south of Lake Ontario, and a dry Gewurtztraminer from Herman J Wiemer.  Others include a Cabernet Franc made from Finger Lakes grapes at the Oenology Winery in Brooklyn.

We will also note some of the tourist attractions in the area and the Finger Lakes Wine Festival July 10-12 where you can  taste these wines for yourself!  A good reference for the show is Evan Dawson's book on the region, "Summer in a Glass".

Questions discussed on Twitter at #toastdmvbrew.

Our show host Gary Vaughan is an avid winery tourist and blogger of the Delmarva Winery and Brewery Journal.
