.Welcome to another episode the Brain Injury Roundtable. I am your host, Constance Miller, brain injury survivor of 32 years; author of the original brain injury owner's manual entitled From The Ashes. This innovative guidebook was featured on Super Bowl XXXIV. Miller is Managing Director of Brain Injury Resource Center, located on the Internet at http://www.headinjury.com. Also joining us will be Tai Campbell, my invaluable contributor who is a tireless community activist, and founder of Taken Back Our Community (TBOC) http://www.tbocnow.org. Also of note he is the survivor of an incredible history of childhood brain injuries. I'd like to thank: all our listeners for bringing our voices, to your home, or your mobile device wherever you are around the world. Additionally, I’d like to give a big thank you to this show’s sponsors: Martha Marcum, mother of a brain injury survivor and author of MARTHA'S FABLES and Gordon Johnson, attorney of http://www.TBILaw.com .
The Brain Injury Roundtable is a place for Ideas, discussion, and recovery for people seeking solutions, to bridge the gap between understanding brain injury and insights on how to change life for the better so be prepared to hear some great information to motivate and inspire us and change the world. The main reason we are tackling this topic this evening is that even a seemingly minor concussion can have life-long, life altering consequences. And that is the topic of tonight's discussion. The plan is to learn from one another and to educate one another about TBI and its aftermath. We know personally just how a traumatic even a concussion can be.
Transitioning into the community after a brain injury has enough personal bouts of their own with physical and/or neurological impairments. Getting assistance is very dificult where we can go, who to talk to, and finding people who understand. Family and friends many times don't have the patience. Government offices don't have much to offer to people with cognitive disabilities. State brain injury centers have a limited amount of resources to offer or don't communicate well with many individuals.
Lisa Dryer and Michael Idell have both lived in different parts of the country since having their brain injuries. They have found a number of people in their support groups nationally who have had all of these problems and more. They advocate for change and would like to get the word out to medical professionals by survivors, caregivers and the public who are knowledgable with the disabled community.
Please join us and speak together in a positive, uplifting atmosphere to share and tell our stories. We are alive and have accomplished so much. Let's start educating the public that we do exist and to keep an open mind this could be anyone we know at any given moment.
Have you or someone you have loved been wrapped up just thinking about brain injury all day and night? "I wish I was who I was back then or before"..... Does your day get taken up by thinking how bad things are or what is getting on your nerves? How much time is wasted thinking about what others are doing and what you are not doing? Where do you go from here? CHANGE.
Utilize your time in a positive fashion or you are just wasting your time!
Stop thinking of your past and concentrate on a positive tomorrow. Your time is wasted thinking about your past instead of focusing on a better life today! If you have a brain injury, you can not change the life experiences that came our way but you can change your perspective of how it consumes you. Your mind sets your mood. You decide on what gets the best of you. You decide to be strong or to be weak. If you need help or some motivation, reach out to those who love you. Call someone who cares to pick you up when you are down. Call someone in the brain injury community like us!

Most stay stuck, some find some happy times, few find a new life that was better than the one they had before. The last option is by far the best and has the highest quality of living. It takes work, it takes determination it takes strength you never knew you had. Be one of the few one of the lucky that dig them selves out of the pits of brain injury. You can do it if you put everything you have toward it. and believe you are worth it, you are. But how can we find the light if we don't explore the dark
When Lisabeth Mackall opened her front door at 2:30am on January 2, 2012, it changed her life forever. She learned that her husband, Police Officer Frank Mackall, had been in a serious motor vehicle accident while on duty, and had been airlifted to a hospital. When Lisabeth opened her front door, she unknowingly entered the world of brain injury. She had to follow “Another Fork in the Road.” Lisabeth will share how she and her family picked up the remnants, pieced them together with patience, persistence, and love, and forged a new life.
Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, an IED blast, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slips from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating.
But as Yogi Berra once said, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” Life is all about choices!

Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that Manny Pacquiao will undergo right shoulder surgery later this week. What began as a disappointing “excuse” has turned into a significant injury that not only takes some of the shine off of last weekend’s fight but also will result in Manny Pacquiao being sidelined for up to one year.
The report quotes orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache referring to the injury a “significant tear” in Pacquiao’s rotator cuff which was confirmed with an MRI scan.
This is such a shame on so many fronts. Not only will this take something away from Floyd Mayweather’s dominant performance in the eyes of the general public, but it brings even hardcore fans back to that all-too-familiar “What if…” feeling they thought they had finally rid themselves of after six years of waiting and wondering. Boxing never ceases to be cruel to both the fighters and the fans alike.
