Manhattan Beach Earth Day Celebration and Concert

    in Current Events

Our guest this morning is Sona Coffee, Environmental Programs Manager for the City of Manhattan Beach.

Sona has led the City of Manhattan Beach's environmental programs for just over 7.5 years. She is a proud USC alum with her undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the Price School of Public Policy, with an emphasis in environmental policy. She came to the City of Manhattan Beach after serving 5 years on the International Affairs and Trade team of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).

Sona’s passion for environmental protection started early with a love for the ocean and animals. Growing up she was surrounded by a conservation ethic, and volunteered for beach cleanups with Heal the Bay and tree plantings with Tree People. That interest fueled her studies in environmental policy, and culminated with a special screening of the Inconvenient Truth with Al Gore which focused her interests in energy conservation and climate change.

Sona was appointed to the Long Beach Sustainable City Commission last year, and is Vice-Chair of Surfrider’s Long Beach chapter. She hopes to help the City meet the challenges associated with climate change, while also restoring the shoreline ecosystem in the community.

This morning, we’re going to discuss the 24th annual Earth Day Celebration and Concert which will take place in Manhattan Beach at Polliwog Park on Saturday, April 30th from 11 AM - 4 PM in addition to a few other Earth Month events.
