Today's show highlights new books, live music and upcoming shows in Second Life and Concert Window. First up is a new book, Regulating Desire: From the Virtuous Maiden to the Purity Princess. by J. Shoshanna Ehrlich.
She is a professor in the Women's and Gender Studies Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Regulating Desire explores the legal regulation of young women's sexuality in the United States. The book covers five distinct time periods in which changing social conditions generated considerable public anxiety about youthful female sexuality and examines how successive generations of reformers sought to revise the law in an effort to manage unruly desires and restore a gendered social order. J. Shoshanna Ehrlich draws upon a rich array of primary source materials, including reform periodicals, court cases, legislative hearing records, and abstinence curricula to create an interdisciplinary narrative of socially embedded legal change. Capturing the complex and dynamic nature of the relationship between the state and the sexualized youthful female body, she highlights how the law both embodies and shapes gendered understandings of normative desire as mediated by considerations of race and class.

It is my pleasure to have Gov. Bob Ehrlich on the show. The Gov has written a book titled Turn This Car Around.
This book is a blunt collection of dispatches from America’s culture wars, retold by a former state legislator, congressman, and governor who fought on the front lines.
Bob Ehrlich, who defeated the storied Kennedy machine to become Maryland’s first Republican governor in a generation, recounts the contentious battles he waged in arguably the most liberal state in America.
Governors Larry Hogan, Bob Ehrlich, Paris Glendening, & Harry Hughes, along with Lt. Governors Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend & Michael Steele, all talk about former Goovernor Marvin Mandel. Howard County Exec. Allan Kittleman, Speaker Mike Busch, Senate President Miller & more officials give their thoughts on the Governor as well, who died this week at the age of 95.
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake talks about Freddie Gray protests, and we have a news update, on this mini edition of the program.

Worldwide Stand Against Hunger with Sarah Ehrlich on the Core Business Show with Tim Jacquet. Sarah Ehrlich Founder of GiveAFlock.org and Help for Orphans International and Social Entrepreneur. Every 3.6 seconds someone dies from hunger and by the time you’re done reading this, 25 – 33 people will have died from severe lack of nutrition. Furthermore, the U.N. has just reported that Africa will not be able to sustain their recent economic growth unless they eliminate hunger. Something has to be done.
These figures are deplorable and staggering and leaves many wondering what they can do to help. To address this many organizations have developed unique and creative ways of combating world hunger. Giveaflock.org is one such organization that is challenging hunger head on.
Today, New Jersey governor Chris Christie joins 13 other Republican hopefuls: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Donald Trump on the Republican Primary Clown Car. So we now stand at 14 and have yet to hear from Scott Walker from Wisconsin and believe it or not, former Maryland 1 term governor, Bob Ehrlich!! I think, MAYBE, Jesse (the Body) Ventura and Topo Gigio are thinking of running as well! What the heck is going on over on "the Right"? When did they ever have so many fools THINK they have a shot at running the country, and to campaign on a platform of intolerance and division? Wow.
On a serious side? Last week had to be THE banner week for President Obama, his administration, and the country as a whole as the Supreme Court upheld, the Affordable Care Act, declared marriage equality legal in all 50 states, AND had 2 justices declare that the court itself was irrelevant. Odd, huh? PRESBO delivered a moving and inspiring eulogy for the slain "Emmanuel 9", and Sarah Palin's pride and joy, Bristol, got herself "knocked up again".
It's the most wonderful time of the year!
