NOTHING LIKE A DAME: Conversations with the Great Women of Musical Theater (February 2014) is a collection of exclusive interviews with twenty of the greatest leading women of Broadway, by journalist Eddie Shapiro. “The history of musical theater is full of incredible, indelible female roles,” writes Elaine Paige in her Foreword to NOTHING LIKE A DAME. “Elphaba, Cassie, Reno Sweeney, Nellie Forbush, Millie Dill¬mount, Marian the Librarian, Effie White, Ruth Sherwood, Lorelei Lee…NOTHING LIKE A DAME features women who have devoted the majority of their careers to theater and have won at least one Tony Award. It includes Shapiro's experience interviewing the “cantankerous, outspoken, and utterly charming” Elaine Stritch over tea at the Carlyle on Thanksgiving Day, chatting with the eighty-four year old Angela Lansbury in her Manhattan apartment, and asking Patti LuPone about her start in acting while eating her home-baked bread. Each interview is guided by Shapiro's expert knowledge of these women's careers, Broadway lore, and the details of some of Broadway's most famous (and infamous) musicals. Here also are icons like Chita Rivera, who describes the experience of starring in musicals for the past seven decades, right alongside contemporary Broadway stars like Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who discuss their roles in the smash-hit Wicked. This collection includes dozens of photographs of the actresses in their best-known roles, making it a must-have for theater lovers. Eddie Shapiro is the author and editor of Nothing Like a Dame: Conversations with the Great Women of Musical Theater.

In Nothing Like a Dame, theater journalist Eddie Shapiro opens a jewelry box full of glittering surprises through in-depth conversations with twenty leading women of Broadway. He selected Tony Award-winning stars that have spent the majority of their careers in theater.
The women he interviewed spent hours with him discussing their careers, offering insights into the iconic shows, changes on Broadway over the last century and the art (and thrill) of taking the stage,. Fred Hammond is a Musician/Singer from Detroit Michigan. Born to Mildred Hammond in 1961, Hammond was one of 3 boys. (His brothers are Ray Hammond Jr. and Dave Hammond.) Having a background in church and music from a young age, Fred's first instrument was drums and eventually progressed to bass and piano. (Bass being his most prominent instrument.) After high school, he joined the U.S. Army along with a close friend of his Mitchell Jones. After they had gotten out of the Army, the two began to get involved in music ministry together. Hammond then auditioned to play bass for the Gospel singing group the Winans and toured with them from 1980 to 1982. Upon returning to Detroit, he and Mitchell Jones, along with 4 other friends (Karl Reid, Fred's Brother-in-Law Keith Staten, Michael Brooks and Michael Williams) formed the Gospel recording group "Commissioned." The group traveled the country doing singing engagements, establishing their fan-base and raising money to record an album. In 1985 under "Light Records", they released their first full album "I'm Going On." The group released 4 more albums under Light Records. (1986 "Go Tell Somebody"/ 1987 "On The Winning Side"/1988 "Will you be Ready?"/1989 "Ordinary just won't do") In 1990 the group moved to "Benson/Verity Records" and recorded their sixth album "State of Mind." This was the last album to be recorded by the group's original line-up as members Keith Staten and Michael Brooks left the group to pursue solo careers. New members Marvin Sapp, Maxx Frank, and Eddie Howard, Jr were welcomed before the group released their seventh album in 1991, which was simply titled "Number 7." This same year, Commissioned recorded an album with recording Artist, Carman called "Shakin' the House: Live." I
After months of calling out fellow UK welterweight, Amir Khan, for a super showdown that Khan seemed to have no interest in, IBF Welterweight Champion, Kell Brook sets his sights on the baddest man in the middleweight division, Gennady Golovkin. “Get me Golovkin at 155 pounds,” Brook said via the Metro from IFL TV.
“I started laughing,” Hearn (Brook's promoter) said to IFL TV about Brook’s interest in fighting Golovkin. “And he said ‘I’m serious.’ I actually spoke with [Golovkin’s promoter] Tom Loeffler. I believe Kell is the best welterweight in the world, but he has to build his resume to prove it. He will jump into a super fight in the summer. He has to and he will.”
Is this all just hype? Is Brook trying to upstage Amir Khan in the wake of his recent signing to fight WBC Middleweight Champion Saul Alvarez? Can this fight really happen and should it really happen? We will discuss this and much more on this special edition show.

Blueshirt Underground Radio was founded in June of 2009, and is now in its eighth year of being the only live radio broadcast devoted to the New York Rangers. Many others have come and gone, but only one perseveres, and that is Blueshirt Underground Radio.
Hosted by lifelong Ranger fans Eddie "The Mouth" Gieck and Jim Schmiedeberg, Blueshirt Underground Radio is not some boring podcast that just drones on and on. It's a lively discussion of everything related to the Rangers, where nothing is off-limits. Rants about the players, announcers, and opponents are commonplace, and no one is off limits. It is a show that prides itself in dishing out tough love to the team it adores. Not only is the show funny and entertaining, it is also fully interactive. It's the only radio show you can call into any time of year and talk Ranger hockey.
