Family Medical History, Food, Fun in Medical Practice

    in Health

Whither the Family Medical History?  As a family fanatic in a "Families Only" practice, I love the FMH and use it daily- over and over again.  It's rich and useful and ever changing.  A JAMA Viewpoint will be the stimulus for my comments.

Food:  It's killing us and saving us at the same time.  Get a fork! is one of my current dogmas.  Is it that simple?  No wheat. More nuts.  More forks.?

I'm still having fun in practice.  I may be somewhat delusional since the walls are moving in with IT and EMR's everywhere.  I do fear the loss of my voice as a Family Physician.  I comment on my blog about the Voice of Family Medicine.

Voices Carry for Animals # 41

    in Current Events

    Hosted by Debbie Dahmer

Guest will be : Mikael Nielsen  Serves as national volunteer coordinator for Mercy For Animals, recruiting and training activists throughout the United States.

     Mercy for Animals

    The Plight of Farmed Animals

Over 95% of the cruelty to animals in the United States occurs at the hands of the meat, dairy, and egg industries which confine, mutilate, and slaughter over 9 billion land animals each year.

Despite the fact that these are the most abused animals in the United States, they actually have the fewest number of advocates. That is why it is so important that we stand up and become a voice for the most defenseless.

    Published on Mar 14, 2015

A new Mercy For Animals undercover investigation into a poultry supplier to Gordon Food Service—the largest private foodservice distributor in North America—has exposed horrific cruelty to animals, including baby birds violently slammed into metal shackles before being painfully shocked with electricity and having their throats cut open while still conscious and able to feel pain. Critique of Joel McDurmon's Family and Dominion in the New Creation|Isaiah 65:17

    in Religion

Today, we will examine and article post by Joel McDurmon, and his dominion theology on the new heavens and earth of Isaiah 65:17-25. Joel's dominionist views are closely akin to premillennial dispensationanlist views of the kingdom of God. He sees physical longevity, physical security in physical houses, abundance of natural food, no fear of invaders or war, no more wild beasts but a eutopian peace and harmony.

He surmises this is the new garden we are to dress and keep, that our children wil not face calamity and he claims all of this for those who are the "offspring" of the Lord. Does he follow through on his literalism. Will the Lord Jesus Christ be physically fathering all these babies he sees in his new heaven and earth paradigm? He can't jumpt to spiritual birth after claiming all of this is physical can he?

He argues that will be a "multi-generational family"? How is that possible if the Lord begets all of them? Why do they even need to be multi-generational?

These are only a few of the problems of McDurmon's view. We'll highlight more of them in the broadcast. Join us today.

Slim Down A Double Chin With Kybella

    in Health

The ever increasing pace of aesthetic medical innovation recently saw another exciting new product added to the clinical 'toolkit'. Reducing a double-chin, or fat under the jawline, without surgery or liposuction has been difficult until now. Last week the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved a new injection therapy called Kybella (Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, Inc.) which was approved for the reduction of moderate to severe fat deposits under the chin.  The active ingredient in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, dissolves fat, allowing dermatologists and aesthetic surgeons to resculpt the chin area without surgery. Dr. Heidi Waldorf, an internationally respected expert in the field of noninvasive skin rejuvenation and dermatology, including the use of soft tissue augmentation, botulinum toxins, topical cosmeceuticals, lasers, and other devices, was a lead clinical investigator on Kybella leading to its approval. Dr. Waldorf is also Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology at The Mount Sinai Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai University and sees patients in Nanuet, New York, at Waldorf Dermatology & Laser Associates, and at Mount Sinai Hospital. Being involved as a lead clinical investigator with new products that may enable better patient results, and possibly even change and influence how certain procedures are performed, is an exciting part of any doctor's career. Listen to the Aesthetic Insider radio for a special glimpse into how Dr. Waldorf combines running a successful practice with important clinical investigation. To learn more call 845-623-7077 or 212-241-0472.
