Easter in Jamaica is a very popular time of year. The holiday was introduced to the island around the 17th century by the Europeans who brought with them their religion, Christianity. During the slavery period, the enslaved Africans were given a day off in observance of this Easter holiday. However, it was not until the 19th century, when missionaries were active in the island, that the slaves really referred to the holiday as Easter and understood its significance.
In Jamaica over the years, the one-day holiday grew to be a four to five day observance, beginning with Holy Thursday and continuing until the following Monday, known as Easter Monday. Some Christian denominations use this time to observe the death and resurrection of Christ.
Like any other holiday, Easter is associated with several traditions. Probably the most common feature of Easter in Jamaica is the eating of bun and cheese. Easter buns in Jamaica are made with lots of spices, dried fruits and stout. The dough is shaped in the form of a loaf, which when baked, is wrapped in cellophane paper and sometimes packed in decorative boxes.
The festival of the Resurrection of the Lord (or Easter Sunday) is the center of the Christian year. On this occasion the church joyfully proclaims the good news that is at the very heart of the gospel: that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. Listen and experiance the "LIVE" Service.

Hello everybody this is the Grover Weaver Ministries.org commentary of the International Sunday School Lesson on Numbers 28:16-26 for the week of 02-14-2016. Welcome...
The more I studied the verses that are the establishment of the Passover in the whole of the Bible, Numbers 28:16-26, is clear to me this is a celebration the Church will do forever. Luke 22:7-20 places Christ, in the Upper Room on the night before his death making the statement, I will not partake of the Passover again until I can have it in my Father’s house with my disciples. When we sup at the Lord’s Table in my absence do it in Remembrance of Him.
Numbers 28-29 set out the type and number of sacrifices that were offered on every day of the year by the priest for the children of Israel. This was the offerings to be made by a priest; a layman could offer as much and as many sacrifices for sin, impurity or vows as he choose, according to the dictates of his conscience, as long as it’s given with a ‘’willing heart’’...
The tree of knowledge of good and evil that God put it the midst of man he was not to eat of it in Genesis 2:17. He he told man if you do you shall surely die; Satan came alone in 3:4 and said, to the woman, ‘’you shall not surely die’’.
There are three deaths in the Bible, physical death, separation of body and spirit; spiritual death, separation of the individual from God; and eternal death, the final estate of the lost person in the ‘’lake of fire’’ (Rev 20:10,14; termed the ‘’second death,’’ separation from God forever).
This is what the Passover in Numbers 28:16-26 were to fix the prevention of the second and third death.
When Noah closed the doors of the ark, the rains poured forth for forty days. After the flood, it was Noah’s family that brought forth a new humanity.
When Moses ascended Mount Sinai, he sat at the feet of God for forty days. After receiving the Mosaic Law, it was the leadership of Moses that brought forth a new Israelite nation.
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He fasted for forty days. After His temptation, He began His ministry to bring new life to a dying world.
When Christ was raised from the dead, He remained among His followers for forty days. Afterwards, He sent forth the Church as emissaries of a new creation.
Today, we begin the journey of Lent. Lent is a period of forty days (not counting Sundays) that stretch from Ash Wednesday to Resurrection Sunday. It is a period where we die to self that we may rise with Christ.
