Despite playing side-by-side once again with superstar guard LeBron James—making him part of the most buzzed-about team in the NBA—the Miami Heat virtuoso still puts education first, not only for himself, but his also family. “Sorry I was late,” D-Wade tells the Bottom Line Sports Show hosts Gerald Brown and Jonathan Foy upon calling in for his interview. “I had to talk to my son about school. He was slackin’. So I went over a little bit.”
Dwyane Wade leads the NBA in fourth-quarter scoring. His team has defeated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers twice during the regular season when the Cavs have traveled to Miami.
If there is one potential matchup that is going to make the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs interesting, it is Heat vs. Cavaliers. As the standings look now, a 2 vs. 7 matchup between the teams could take place. But Miami could still fall to No. 8 or rise to No. 6, and then the Eastern Conference first round will be a cure for insomnia.
That was only one of the topics of discussion this morning as I went on the air with Sid Rosenberg on 640-AM WFTL in Miami. We hit on Commissioner Adam Silver, the New York Knicks, the Atlanta Hawks and the tight Western Conference playoff race -- which is making folks on the Eastern seaboard nervous.
Give a listen for a quick trip around he NBA -- including a brief look back at last summer when I was the first journalist to report that LeBron James would be leaving the Miami Heat and joining the Cleveland Cavaliers.
I'll go over everything about the 2014 NBA Draft. What I thought happened at the top of the draft, were there any major reaches? Who fell too far? Which teams had the best draft and which didn't make out too hot? Also, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh opted out of their deals with Miami for the 2014-15 season. What does this mean? Will they come back with LeBron? Will one or two stay? If they all come back, what do they have to do to be able to compete with the San Antonio Spurs?
Leave it to Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade to deflect attention away from himself—and fellow teammates LeBron James and Chris Bosh—when stopping by BlogTalkRadio to promote his latest project. “I’m going to visit a school Friday to talk to our youth and try to get in their ear. We’re also doing a march and youth summit. We get a panel of successful people and sit and talk to the youth about right and about wrong—including right and wrong decisions we made ourselves,” Wade, whose Wade’s World Foundation supports community-based organizations that promote education, health and social skills for at-risk kids, tells The Bottom Line Sports Show host Gerald Brown. “It ends Sunday at my mom’s chuch, where we do a back-to-school giveaway. I don’t fly a lot of celebrities in. If people come down to support it, I love’m and I appreciate it. But it’s not about the celebrities. It’s about the people in the Chicago community.”
Dwyane Wade was awful in Game 3 for the Miami Heat. And I'm not letting him off the hook. Plus, why benching Marian Gaborik is a dumb move. And still haven't heard Albert Pujols praise his new hitting coach. Tune into "I'm Just Sayin" with Danny Picard every weekday LIVE at 9 a.m. ET, and subscribe on iTunes.
Listen as Ethan Skolnick describes what it was like to be in the arena, on the road, and everywhere in between as the circus came to town with LeBron James and his decision to join the Miami Heat. With Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Big Three took the league by storm, getting to 4 straight NBA Finals and 2 titles. Ethan give us a unique insight into the team dynamic, particularly how Coach Erik Spoelstra was able to deal with his personnel and shape it into a title winning team.

In Baltimore in 1910, a black Yale law school graduate purchased a home in a previously all-white neighborhood. The Baltimore city government reacted by adopting a residential segregation ordinance, restricting African Americans to designated blocks. Explaining the policy, Baltimore’s mayor proclaimed, “Blacks should be quarantined in isolated slums in order to reduce the incidence of civil disturbance, to prevent the spread of communicable disease into the nearby White neighborhoods, and to protect property values among the White majority.”

An hour of power and praise
I did everything society said to be happy. I got the degrees: BA, a Montessori degree, and an MA. I married the “right” men who could “give me respect and boost my confidence.” First an attorney. Had one daughter. The marriage ended after seven years because of his affairs. Eight years later, my second husband was a cardiologist from Virginia. We had a bi-coastal, whirlwind coke-induced love affair for eighteen months. The marriage lasted six months. I did things I thought might help society. I sent women to London for abortions before Roe v. Wade. I was active in the peace movement to stop the Vietnam War. I started NORML (the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) with my first husband. I had the right jobs: I wrote and produced for PBS. I won numerous awards. I wrote screenplays to shine the light on inequities. None of this alleviated my pain, shame and suffering from the childhood beatings and sexual abuse that led to my self-abuse. My healing journey began with Shhhh!
I have lived in Venice Beach, CA., just steps to the sand, for eighteen years. I’m a grandmother of two loving, beautiful, half Chinese boys. I just had a portion of a short story published in a new LA literary journal, FRE&D. Currently, I’m working on my next book, “Mother NORML”. For those who wish to clean out their pain and shame please join me in my weekly webinar, Skype to Write. I have been on a spiritual journey. I have become the me I came here to be!
