Dwight Howard called me a liar Tuesday night. He is mistaken.
I wrote that Howard is very unhappy in Houston, and I stand by that report 100 percent. For the reasons why he is unhappy, and my best guess as to where he will finish the season (Miami), click over and give a read to my column.
Howard was interviewed in Sacramento after the Rockets lost to the Kings, and the man asking the questions was Jonathan Feigan, longtime beat writer for the Houston Chronicle. Feigan tried to ask four questions -- the first was about sending a message, the second was about the failure to play as a unit. Howard answered the first two questions with variations of the stock jock reply "We just gotta play hard." The third was about my report, and the fourth was unintelligible because Howard cut Feigan off.
The important question is the third one.
Feigan: "There was a report, maybe you've heard about it, that you were very unhappy with your role. If you hadn't been asked, what response would you have given?"
Howard: "I haven't said nothing to nobody about anything."
There are no lies in my story. I am very well-sourced around the league, and people tell me things that they would not tell other journalists. The sources for this story are exceptionally plugged-in to what is going on with the Rockets. Also, this is not a rumor. There is a difference between a rumor and a news report. This is the latter, not the former.

He is a professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the NBA. After an outstanding high school career at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, he entered the 2004 NBA Draft, and was selected first overall by the Orlando Magic. He played for the Orlando Magic until 2012 and the Los Angeles Lakers until 2013, before moving on to the Houston Rockets. He is an 8 time NBA All-Star, 7 time All-NBA team selection, 5 time ALL-NBA First Team selection, and 3 time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Orlando Magic to three division titles and one conference title. In the 2008 Olympics, he was the starting center for Team USA, which went on to win the gold medal. He has led the NBA in rebounds five times and in blocks twice.
Before he was drafted in 2004, he told ESPN that he wanted to use his NBA career and Christian faith to "raise the name of God within the league and throughout the world". He said of his faith, "I'm down to earth. I'm laid back. I just like to make sure people smile. I want to be able to speak to non-Christians so that I can get them saved or change their lives around. Everybody needs to realize that it doesn't matter how old you are or how young you are, you still can be a Christian and live for God. It's not easy but that's why we have God's Word and He forgives us when we do something we shouldn't be doing. You know, God sent His Son to die for us and He paid that sacrifice so you can go to Heaven.
His name is Dwight Howard.
It seems there are more Dwight Howard haters out there this summer than there were three years ago when there were so many millions of LeBron James haters.
Maybe that's just because so much of the venom is coming from Los Angeles, where the fans are spoiled because no one ever leaves the Lakers. Players always want to join the Lakers.
My opinion? STFU, haters.
Dwight Howard is an Americans, and all Americans have a right to choose where they want to work. It's just that in the NBA, it usually takes years to earn that right if you happen to be a superstar.
More on that line of defense in this podcast with Tommy Dee and Moke Hamilton of SNY.
The Over and Back Classic NBA podcast continues its offseason series looking at the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in history, with a look at the career and Top 50 candidacy of Dwight Howard.

Jamieson and I were joined in the booth by OpinioNation member Jory Dreher (Show-Contibutor) for today's episode. We at the OpinioNation, were very pleased to have the opportunity to catch up with Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard for an in-depth 40+ minute discussion. Jory was able land the access, and the three of us thoroughly enjoyed our EXCLUSIVE discussion with the league's best big man. We're not done there, we'll ALSO be joined by the host of Drive Time Sports (750 AM Utah) Jordan Buscarini and Yorick Hempstead AKA @HempsteadHuddle on Twitter for an all around NBA discussion.
Episode 3 of the Silver Screen and Rollcast will discuss the Los Angeles Lakers free agency period. Dwight Howard is meeting teams, the Lakers are making calls, and everything is abuzz.
