His loss, his gift, life is all about perception

    in Motivation

Jack was one of the first hearing-impaired babies identified in Georgia through the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program. He received his first pair of behind-the-ear hearing aids when he was 6 weeks old. His parents, teachers and audiologists went to great lengths to make sure he learned and developed like any other kid in America.  At 11 years old, he was fortunate to go on a mission trip to Ghana where he realized that this was his calling in life. Jack believes that his hearing loss is a gift so that he can help others who also have loss of hearing.

On his return from Ghana, Jack told his parents he wanted to start a foundation to raise money for hearing aids, audiology care and other hearing expenses that many insurances do not cover. Jack was motivated to make a difference in the lives of kids with hearing loss.  He believed that he had been blessed with the care that he needed and therefore, wanted to be able to bless other people with the same level of care. Thus, 20/20 Hearing was formed and is now a 501-(c)(3) non-profit.  Its mission is to give the gift of hearing and a better future to those less fortunate around the world.

Aside from this extraordinary mission, Jack is a typical 7th grade young man. He loves to play lacrosse and follows the Duke Blue Devils lax team closely.  His fun loving nature is enjoyed by all that are around him.

Our website will give more information of the mission trips that he has been on. www.2020Hearing.org

We have given financial assistance to 4 children since August and currently are in the process of funding 2 more.  We will be helping the deaf community in Leveque, Haiti. This is one of the largest deaf communities in the Caribbean, with over 160 families affected by hearing loss. Jack hopes to help as many people as possible. Jack always says, “It’s a small world so let’s all make a big difference!”

    Domestic Violence

    in Relationships

Tune into The Relationship Handbook Live as we discuss the topic Domestic Violence. Our special guest is a domestic violence survivor R. Nikki Chaney, Founder of Heel My Heart. The goal of Heel My Heart is to help rebuild victims of domestic violence and abuse self-esteem. The 6 week program provides women with the tools and resources they need to further their education including help with college applications, resumes & cover letter, job training and interview preparation; a makeover provided by a Certified hair stylist and makeup artist, giving them a professional look and confidence to move forward with their lives, and of course, a nice pair of heels. They help women with all aspects of the recovery process, including filing for divorce and placing protective orders against their attackers. The Heel My Heart goal is to help rebuild women's self-esteem enabling them to become more productive in society, as they reestablish their lives after suffering through domestic violence.  They strive to raise awareness about the dangers of domestic violence throughout the community, while "heeling" one heart at a time. Upon exiting our program, they will reveal a new woman, with higher expectations and high self-esteem. Be sure to call in and press 1 to speak with the hosts and our special guest.

The Biz With D: Interview w/ Tank + Melanie Amaro + 12 Til

    in Music

Strength can often be found in the midst of struggle. It's in those moments of hardship that we fully understand who we are and what we're really capable of. Grammy Award-nominated R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Tank realized that in late 2012. While working on the TGT super group album, Three Kings, with Ginuwine and Tyrese, he simultaneously endured a string of revelatory personal shakeups.

"Those were some trying times from a relationship standpoint," he admits. "We were finally getting TGT together, and I was going through it personally. Everything was happening all at once, and it was a lot to face. I went through this headache and heartbreak, but I emerged in a better place. That's when music started coming to me. I was initially trying to hide everything behind this heavy and intense 808 vibe, and I leaned towards my strengths instead. I started playing piano and drums again as well as adding live instruments. In the past, I've only made music in the middle of a storm or on my way into one. This was the first time I made music under sunshine. I've been blessed to have a great story and testimony now."

Tank came out on the other side with that "story"—his sixth full-length solo album, Stronger [Atlantic Records]. In between releasing Three Kings and touring, he spent the better part of 2013 building his latest body of work. Whether he was on a plane, in hotel rooms, or at home in Los Angeles, he completely submersed himself in the creative process. Tank also found an inspiring collaborator in the iconic Jerry "Wonder" Duplessis [The Fugees, Shakira, Miguel]. While in Jerry's NYC studio one night, the pair simply clicked.
