In her new book Drug War Capitalism, Dawn Paley moves beyond the usual horror stories, beyond journalistic rubbernecking and hand-wringing, to follow the thread of the Drug War story throughout the entire region of Latin America and all the way back to US boardrooms and political offices. This unprecedented book chronicles how terror is used against the population at large in cities and rural areas, generating panic and facilitating policy changes that benefit the international private sector, particularly extractive industries like petroleum and mining.
Tune in today as we catch up with journeyman fighter Daniel Terry. A staple in the SOutheast scene, Terry is reinvigorated and looking for war. Having recently added to his family, the fire of fatherhood has rejuvinated the hunger and drive in Terry.
Join War of the Words today for a special journey down the road of a fighter. Sit and listen to the humanism that can be born from a sport seen as so violent.

There is a phenomenon in the life of human beings where some of us do not look at the past in order to see the threads leading to the present and the future. When a child burns their hand on the stove that should tell them to be careful around that appliance and more specifically around fire. The fire is unemotional, it does not have a trigger for right and wrong and fire can be used and controlled to our benefit. The fire of white supremacy and its destructive heat is emotional and the trigger is our very existence.
The difference is we know the fire can be good for warmth, cooking, watching and we see that to a point we can control the efficacy of the fire to a point. Contrary to this is the idea we can’t control the racism and sexism like turning on an off a flame on a stove. It is almost like amnesia when it comes to our pain. We don’t believe that we, as human being can perpetually be abused by the other based on how they falsely see us, we don’t see that hate is at the core of this debate.
The drug war has produced profoundly unequal outcomes across racial groups, manifested through racial discrimination by law enforcement and disproportionate drug war misery suffered by communities of color. Although rates of drug use and selling are comparable across racial lines, people of color are far more likely to be stopped, searched, arrested, prosecuted, convicted and incarcerated for drug law violations than are whites. Higher arrest and incarceration rates for African Americans and Latinos are not reflective of increased prevalence of drug use or sales in these communities, but rather of a law enforcement focus on urban areas, on lower-income communities and on communities of color as well as inequitable treatment by the criminal justice system. We believe that the mass criminalization of people of color, particularly young African American men, is as profound a system of racial control as the Jim Crow laws were in this country until the mid-1960s.

Joining us on the show today will be Conflict MMA Promotions CEO Jared Williams to discuss the upcoming COnflict 23 event set for December 6th in Hardeeville, SC. With an incredible 2014 almost in the books for the promotion, today we look back at the year and dive right onto Fight Club Hardeeville in what is sure to be another great Conflict event.
Stay tuned to War of the Words all this week and next as we continue to bring these great fighters from the cage to your ear drums ahead of Dec 6th's fantastic card. And be sure to meet us there in Hardeeville for what promises to be one of Conflicts most explosive cards, and one hell of a way to close out 2014.
"From August- December we will have held a show every month and only repeated a city once (Columbia, SC) which is a goal achieved that seems unreal for us. 5 events, 4 cities, 5 months sounds so absurd that I honestly try to figure out how it comes together like it does, but it always does and it’s always fun. It was incredible to add Macon, Myrtle Beach, and Hardeeville to the growing list of cities we go to.
Key moments for me in these last few events have been #1 Alexa Conners comeback KO over Allison Ainley in Columbia in her 145lb title defense, Kobe Wall earned two KO’s in two weeks in two weight classes (Macon & Savannah), seeing our heavyweight champion sign and get the opportunity to live out his dream fighting for Bellator, and the emergence of Lamar Brown, Mark Trader and Eddie Miller as future stars within the promotion. Oh, and Adrian Henderson Vs Nick Smiley was an absolute stunner, as was Ben Brewer Vs Micah Miller! So many great moments. Did I mention our champ JJ Aldrich also signed with Invicta?"
