The Truth About Honesty In Our Recovery

    in Lifestyle

When we are drinking, we may find ourselves mired in dishonesty. This can be subtle or extreme. We may try to cover up our drinking and tell lies or exaggerations to avoid consequences, responsibility, or conflict. Dishonesty is at the root of denial including telling ourselves we can safely drink when we have evidence to the contrary. Lying may even become a habit as we hide from our addiction to cover up our true mental and emotional health to protect our ego, reputation, self image.

Choosing sobriety may be the first truly honest thing we've done in awhile. On this episode, we talk about how honesty has shaped our recovery, the choices we have to make to get and stay sober, how our definitions of honesty have evolved, and how dishonesty figures into the 11 stages of relapse if we let it.

TREATMENT and RECOVERY: War Stories (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

    in Self Help

Show Topic:  Traditionally, the recovery community has frowned upon the telling of War Stories, and with good reason. We're not fond of clients glorifying past negative behaviors and prefer that they focus on the present, and also their future. However, in honor and memoriam, of former OCG employee, and in celebration of what would've been his 52nd birthday today, we on behalf of the late Great Joe Williams, will suspend that tradition and tell a few select War Stories, that all have a Moral of the Story, in line with our recovery values

Clear Your Hidden Blocks to Maximize Recovery from SA with Carol the Coach

    in Self Help

There are all sorts of ways to heal the wounds that contribute to sexual addiction. Tonight Carol the Coach will be interviewing Tom Prah who will be speaking about RIM which is a technique and scientific method of re-generating images in memory and re-scripting the experience to heal.

RIM initially began as a synthesis of techniques that access the subconscious mind directly-Somatic Therapy, Ericksonian Hypnosis and Interactive Guided Imagery  has continued to expand and evolve. Originally, the acronym RIM stood for Deborah Sandella's Ph.D RN. book Releasing the Inner Magician so it could be conveniently referenced as a research intervention for people suffering with stress relatied illnesses and condition, Her study found that RIM significantly decreased the symptoms of stress-related illness and significantly increases one's quality of life.. As it has evolved into a scientific method, the meaning of RIM has become both: Re-generating Images in Memory and Re-creating the Inner Movie.

Tom has been using this successfully with individuals who suffer from Sexual Addiction.

CUTV News Radio spotlights Angela Jakubowski of Restorative Interventions

    in Family

New Cumberland, PA – Living with addiction can place families under incredible stress. The entire family becomes absorbed by the problem as it slowly spins out of control. But there is help.

Angela Jakubowski is the founder and lead interventionist for Restorative Interventions, a faith-based organization specializing in family recovery for drug and alcohol addiction. Restorative Interventions believes that through the resilience of the family and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the intervention process can guide families to effectively motivate a resistant loved one enter treatment. Through this process the family finds healing, freed from the bondage of addiction that has held them captive, often for generations.

“We begin where the family and the client is ready and willing to begin,” says Angela. “My goal is to penetrate with truth and help the family communicate their hopes and desires and needs and get their loved one into treatment."

According to Angela, the intervention utilized by Restorative Interventions is not an event like what you may have seen on A&E’s Intervention. Restorative Interventions employs an intervention model known as Arise, which is invitational only. An addicted loved one is invited to a family meeting where professionals have been brought in to facilitate the process.

“People invited to this process are always taken aback by how the family has come together out of their love for the individual — often despite existing broken relationships within the family system,” says Angela. “They have to hear the message. There is an answer. There is hope.”
