CUTV News Radio spotlights Jill Orhn Recovery Coaching

    in Lifestyle

Stillwater, MN – The decision to give up the lifestyle of addiction and enter recovery can be tremendously fearful and isolating, like moving away from home and never speaking to anyone again. Everyone has their own path to recovery, but with the help of a recovery coach, you can develop strategies to successfully navigate the transition to sobriety

A recovery coach is a certified non-clinical professional that supports you as you begin a new life without substance abuse. Jill Orhn is a recovery coach and the founder of Jill Orhn Recovery Coaching, where she helps women who are considering treatment or have recently left treatment to build a new vision for their lives. Jill supports women in transition who feel lost or hopeless or believe they don’t have anyone to support them.

“A recovery coach helps to keep you on the path to stay sober by teaching day-to-day skills and establishing new routines,” says Jill. “We take away the shame and the stigma of being alcoholic or an addict and the idea that this is who you are for life.

Jill helps her clients to recognize what areas in their life they need to find balance and how to recognize the negative thinking and triggers that can compromise sobriety.

“I’m there to help them take that next step, whatever that step may be, and that applies to recovery or any kind of transition,” says Jill.

Jill understands where her clients have been but also serves as a living example that life can get better and will. She and her clients work together to develop an action plan to start your recovery and help keep you in recovery.

“Let’s take away the stigma and help people get sober in a way that works for them,” says Jill.

Reshaping The Traumatized Child: Can Innocence Be Restored?

    in Women

Our children have seen, heard and experienced too much in their lives and many are exhibiting signs of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome before they even reach High School. Childhood used to be a time of joy, innocence, laughter, and carefree living. Now there is fear, doubt, distrust, anger and frustration, robbing our children not only of the innocence of youth, but of hope that tomorrow will be a better day. They need to believe it in order to create it, but how do we instill in our children that the have the power to create the world the way they want it to be, when they are standing upon a foundation of emotional trauma? Domestic violence, homelessness, drug addicted parents, and schools that are downright hostile. Who do they turn to for healing? After an early hard life, how can a child's innocence be restored?  Today our guest is Life Coach and Family Counselor Shiela Wilkins, Phd Coach dealing with the mind, body and spirit. Later on we'll be joined by therapist Howard Williams, to discuss how we, the extended family, can reach out to our children.

Thriving After Narcissistic Abuse Story #24 Phil

    in Relationships

Today I have a really special interview.

Especially if you are a male in this community, I know you will find this interview relatable and insightful.

This show is about Phil, who is now one of our senior members in the NARP community. He is a friend of mine, and is also a part of the moderator team in the NARP community.

In this show Phil talks about what it’s like being a man who suffered in silence – being ashamed to talk about it with your friends because you know they wouldn’t understand and only judge you.

He also talks about what’s like dealing with the male ego – that voice inside you that says you shouldn’t let a woman take control of you and affect you like that.

I had a wonderful time doing this show and I know you will get a lot out of it.

If you are interested in becoming a NARP member you can find all the information to join here.

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1104

    in Self Help

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "Child Abuse, Trauma and 12-Step Recovery" - STEP 1 (and we'll include a bit about TRADITION 1) - SCAN host Bill Murray will be joined by special guest co-host Rivka Edery, MSW, LCSW, from NYC, author of the book “Trauma and Transformation: A 12-Step Guide." Bill founded the recently launched Adult Survivors of Child Abuse Anonymous (ASCAA). Together they will lead tonight's discussion on STEP 1: "We admitted we were powerless over the abuse and trauma of our youth -- that our lives had become unmanageable." The survivor's decision to begin a process of healing begins with the admission of what happened to them. This involves working through the defenses employed to shun from consciousness the excruciatingly painful memories of the traumatic events. Having passed through this phase of remembering (in any way possible), the acceptance of the truth of the traumatic experience moves the survivor towards resolution. Thus begins the creation of an internal, healing space for the survivor to feel what remained frozen in time, banished and unwelcome in consciousness. ~~ A child abuse survivor herself, Rivka Edery is grateful for the spiritual recovery she found in the 12 Steps of AA. She's been active in the 12 Step community for over 17 years. Bill Murray credits his 30 plus years of recovery to the spiritual power of the 12 Step program, too. ~~ Join us every two weeks to further examine a 12 Step approach to recovery from abuse. Next show we'll address STEP 2 & TRADITION 2. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/Trauma-12Step or write to Rivka at: rebecca.edery@gmail.com

Author/Speaker/Challenge Conqueror Michelle A. Roberts stops by Good Deeds

    in Motivation

Michelle A. Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia, is a fighter and a winner. She describes her impressive life change in this way: “After being married for 17 years, I finally awakened to the realization that my drug-addicted husband was not going to change. I had remained in the marriage—for too long—largely for two reasons. One was because I thought no one would want a fat girl with three babies. The other, deeper reason was because I was not raised with my father and always longed for that relationship, so I clung to the hope that my husband would be the man who would fill that void. He did not. In fact, he put our children and me through the maddening frustrations and disappointments that come with sharing life with an addict. I became so depressed I began carrying 268 pounds on a five-foot frame. Finally, however, I took charge of my life. I had life-altering surgery, gastric bypass, and lost more than 110 pounds. I got a divorce, began a lifestyle of fitness, went back to school, and obtained bachelors, masters and is currently a Doctoral Candidate. I opened several businesses and authored several books. Yes, the years of schooling and attitude change were hard. Yes, I cried. Yes, I complained sometimes. But whenever I felt on the verge of giving up, I had only to look at my three children, and a fight for dear life would arise in me.” Michelle A. Roberts, is a professional speaker & published Author she specializes in training and encouraging Women that they are overcomers, and can comeback from any challenge. Ms. Roberts is a member of the American Business Women’s Association, Airport Charter Chapter and National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Mecca Chapter.
