We've been wondering in Luqman Nation, who sets the rules that determine who is really "Conscious" and who isn't among Black people? What ARE the rules? Are there even any?
We'll discuss the dust-up over Ta-Nehisi Coates' article about Sen. Bernie Sanders' stand on reparations, and the responses of Killer Mike and the Black voting community.
Also, The Oscars, Stacey Dash, #Oscarssowhite, and do we care? SHOULD we care?
Of course we have coffee for you! But remember, it's always a big pot of strong and unapologetic truth.
Bring your cup!
This week, noted journalist and educator, Ta-Nehisi Coates, challenged Democratic presidential candidates on the issue of reparations to African-Americans for the tragic outcomes of slavery with his recent article for The Atlantic and asked Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders if he was in favor of reparations. The article and Bernie Sanders’ response has created a firestorm that Down South and Dirty will take a bit further.
Join us this Sunday, January 24th, for a lively discussion based on the premise, “Okay, what would happen IF we got reparations?” If you’re a regular DSD listener, you know how it goes on the DSD porch; we’re going to ask hard questions and ask ourselves and our listeners to think about this very controversial issue that the African-American community has debated for years. As usual, we will have our Bern Treatment with DSD correspondent Anoa Changa who was on the ground this week at the Bernie rally in Birmingham, AL; Stacey and Scout will chop up somebody or something in our weekly Dirty List and we’ve got guest commentators joining us for the reparations discussion. So, make plans to call in at (657) 383-0995 and become a healthy part of the conversation! We ask callers to please limit remarks to two minutes, so we can keep the tea flowing.
See you this Sunday at 2pm EST on Down South and Dirty Radio!
On this episode of Carson's Corner with the Election Boycott Advocates, we discuss the following:
1. This past Monday was Martin Luther King Day. We remember the contributions of King. As we recall King's anti-militarism and anti-imperialism, his class consciousness, and commitment to democratic socialism and fighting racism, the contrast with Malcolm D's defensivdistorter as opposed to King's pacifist strategy are often debated.
2. Author/Activist Paul Street wrote an article titled, "Race Without Class: the “Bougie” Sensibility of Ta-Nehisi Coates." We'll discuss this and more.
3.The Iran nuclear deal, which was completed last week, trigering the end of sanctions.
4.The UK's accusation that Putin ordered the assassination of a former Russian agent living in London.
Plus, Dan Welch, activist and creator of The Greenhouse School, may join us to discuss his perdiction that Bernie Sanders may win the presidency. All this, plus your calls.
This episode comes from a request.
Phoenix Calida will open us up talking about cops and prison.
From there we'll do a little news and comment.

“A father writes a letter to his son. His writing starts with a recollection of his interview in a popular news show. The host’s question about the meaning of losing a body is still stuck in his head. The question is the host’s way of asking for reasons why he thinks America’s progress is built in violence and looting. At the end of the interview, he is asked by the host at that moment he is sad because deep inside he knows he failed to explain his views. He believes that the host and all the other people who think they are white are reveling on a deceptive hope. White America knows that its White Dream rests on the backs of the black people.”
