This week, Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from the 25th annual World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Dallas, Texas. This is the travel industry’s equivalent of the G-20. There are heads of state, foreign ministers, U.S. cabinet secretaries and CEOs from airlines, hotels, and cruise lines all in one room.
On the show this week: James Hogan—CEO of Etihad Airways, Sean Donohue—CEO of DFW. Akel Biltaji, the mayor of Amman, Jordan, Manfrede Lefebvre, Chairman of Silversea Cruises, and legendary hotelier Raymond Bickson will also be in attendance. These guests will discuss everything from Open Skies and terrorism to hotel mergers and cruises to the Antarctic. But that’s just the beginning, as Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from Dallas, Texas and the WTTC Global Summit.
This week on Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from the American Queen river boat on the Mississippi River, en route from Memphis to New Orleans. Joining Peter on this real paddle wheeling steamboat will be Scott McCartney, Travel Editor of The Wall Street Journal, with a report on airlines adding extra seats to their planes. Jerry Hay, the American Queen‘s Riverlorian, explains how historians stick to the truth, but riverlorians tell great tales (some of them tall). Some of the truths of the Mississippi are still stranger than fiction, with pirates, robbers, and of course, the legendary exploits (and the derivation of the name) of Mark Twain. Additionally, Melinda Morris from The Times-Picayuneshares information about some of New Orleans’ jazz fest secrets. American Queen Captain Brent Willits talks about what’s changed on the river—as well as what has never changed. There’s all of that and more as Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from the American Queen Steamboat Company, aboard the American Queen river boat, as it moves down the mighty Mississippi.

The Mansion—and the island—were formerly owned by the chewing gum magnate and are now protected by the Catalina Island Conservancy. The mansion has been lovingly restored and maintained as a six-bedroom B&B with some of the best views.
I’ve been going there for nearly 40 years, and my mother, a Los Angeles native and big band singer, used to perform at the famed Avalon Casino with the bands of Benny Goodman and Perry Como. It is an emotional homecoming for me every time I return. Joining the show this week is Michele Bestudik, Catalina Island Historian, shares her special history of the island, including its glamorous Hollywood past. Sean McAlpin, Bartender at the Avalon Grille, talks about the history of the Chicago Cubs on the island (spring training was there when Wrigley owned the team), then gives us his favorite seasonal cocktails, and one of them involves bacon!
Catalina boasts great hiking trails (one is 37 miles long), and Janet Flathers tells us about the special routes to take. If you’re hungry, Avalon’s fire chief Mike Krug tells us the best places to eat on the island, including where to find the best buffalo burgers. There’s all of that and more, when Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from the Inn on Mt. Ada at Catalina Island.

This week, Florida Keys historian Brad Bertelli drops by to give us the best snorkeling sites in the Keys, as well as the fascinating Native American history of Florida that most people don’t know. Jason Koler, Editor and Publisher of The Keys Weekly, shares his picks of the best places you can’t find in travel brochures. There’s all of this and more as Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys.

As a veteran of the fashion industry, Ann used to design women’s clothing, which she loved. But after working in the industry for 20 years, she no longer found it fulfilling. Ann noticed three things were happening: people's priorities were changing, they were concerned about global warming and climate change, and there seemed to be a demand for fashionable yet sustainable products, but few companies were offering these types of items.
