    BLACK POWER!.....REALLY?

    in Entertainment

The 1960's and 70's was a time that Black America was smack dab in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement and striving for equal rights. Many were killed daily trying to achieve something that should have been given to them much soon, BASIC AND CIVIL RIGHTS.

So in the middle of all ot this unrest. At the height of Black and White inequality, some of our most prominant Black entertainers women and men were in romantic relationships with white people. A time when Black women can be raped by a white man who will be arrested but only as a formality. He will get a slap on the wrist and sent on his merry way. A time when a White woman has only to SAY she was raped by a black man and he would be beaten with an inch of his life if not killed.

So in the midst of all of this, one of the most sucessgul Black entertainers of the time decides whille making a guest apperance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, that he is going to tell a young woman who happens to be white to give him oral compilations in the Green Room moments before he goes out to meet Johnny.....and she does.

    WEIGHT LOSS: Natural vs surgery

    in Entertainment

It's that time of year again. Spring has finally sprung and everyone is juming into an exercise or workout program in order to get BEACH BODY ready. That's all fine and good but we should actually concerned aout the inside of our bodies as well as the outside, all year round.

Millions of people around the globe have been taking risk of reducing calories by undergoing surgery, while others prefer to burn fat the natural way. There are so many natural weight loss benefits to consider before agreeing undergoing a painful and costly surgery that has no guarantee. Too many people are seeing these weight loss surgeries as the easy way out instead of as a last option. Many Surgeons have become popular for satisfying their clients while many manufacturing companies have introduced new products for weight loss.

According to Timothy B. Curry, MD of the Mayo Clinic, almost 2/3 of Americans are overweight or obese, and that number continues to rise. Many people want to lose weight, but for those who have become very large, surgery may be the only way to successfully do this. Others may take the weight off by making diet and exercise changes.

Natural weight loss benefits are so much more motivating than those of surgery. With natural weight loss you are not shocking your body into starvation with an intensely reduced stomach. Instead you are retraining your body to appreciate the right foods that provide the nutrients you need to be healthy. Other natural weight loss benefits include the introduction of better habits into your life style. By taking the time to learn to eat well, to learn to appreciate and enjoy regular exercise, and to learning how to overcome those strong cravings, or binge days, you are setting yourself up for long term success.

    CULTURAL EXCHANGE VS CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

    in Entertainment

The United States has long been known as a melting pot and, more recently, as a salad bowl. Because people from hundreds of different ethnic backgrounds make up the nation’s population, it’s not surprising that at times cultural groups rub off on each other. Americans who grow up in diverse communities may pick up the dialect, customs and religious traditions of the cultural groups that surround them.

Cultural appropriation is  an entirely different matter, however. It has little to do with one’s exposure to and familiarity with different cultures. Instead, cultural appropriation typically involves members of a dominant group exploiting the culture of less privileged groups--often with little understanding of the latter’s history, experience and traditions. Accordingly, socially aware people tend to frown upon this phenomenon.

“Borrowing” is a key component of cultural appropriation. In the 1950s, for example, white musicians borrowed the musical stylings of their black counterparts. Because African Americans weren’t widely accepted in U.S. society at that time, record executives chose to have white recording artists replicate the sound of black musicians. This led to musical forms such as rock-n-roll being largely associated with whites in spite of the fact that black musicians were pioneers of the artform. This move also had financial consequences, as many of the black musicians who helped pave the way for rock-n-roll’s success never saw a dime for their contributions to the music form.

Let's talk about cultural appropriation as it affects pop culture today. Join tomorrow, October 1 on DP RADIO XL at 8pm

A SYSTEM CANNOT FAIL THOSE IT WAS NEVER BUILT TO PROTECT (FERGUSON/AMERICA

    in Entertainment

The biggest crime in the U.S. criminal justice system is that it is a race-based institution where African-Americans are directly targeted and punished in a much more aggressive way than white people.

Saying the US criminal system is racist may be politically controversial in some circles. But the facts are overwhelming. No real debate about that. Below I set out numerous examples of these facts.

The question is - are these facts the mistakes of an otherwise good system, or are they evidence that the racist criminal justice system is working exactly as intended? Is the US criminal justice system operated to marginalize and control millions of African Americans?

The police stop blacks and Latinos at rates that are much higher than whites. In New York City, where people of color make up about half of the population, 80% of the NYPD stops were of blacks and Latinos. When whites were stopped, only 8% were frisked. When blacks and Latinos are stopped 85% were frisked according to information provided by the NYPD. The same is true most other places as well. In a California study, the ACLU found blacks are three times more likely to be stopped than whites.

Coinsidence? Or is this just the way the system is set up?

LIVING AND/OR WORKING WITH YOUR EX!!!

    in Entertainment

Everyone knows breaking up is hard to do. But staying in contact with your ex following a breakup? That’s where things get really tricky. By remaining in each other’s lives, you run the risk of a post-breakup rendezvous, holding onto feelings for your ex, and in general delaying your ability to heal and move on quickly (and without additional heartache).

What happens when you are living with your significant other and suddenly you break up? Does one person move out? Do they both move out? Or because of convenience and economical reasons, they continue to live together?

What if the romance first blossomed at work? So not only are you still living together but you still have to see each other at work.

How does this make for a healthy healing process? Or does it?
