Dr. Vladas Griskevicius: How to make wiser choices by using Deep Rationality

    in Psychology

Amy Alkon's Advice Goddess Radio: "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in science.

("Best Of" replay.) Decisions that we make that seem stupid can actually make a lot of evolutionary sense, meaning that they would have made sense in the ancestral world; they just don’t make sense in the world in which we now live.

Unfortunately, we can’t just tell our genes, “Hey, it’s 2013! There are no hungry tigers roaming the streets of Baltimore and, by the way, my girlfriend’s on The Pill.”

But, my guest tonight, evolutionary psychologist, psychologist and marketing professor Dr. Vladas Griskevicius, is going to give us the background to make wiser choices by helping us understand the ways we can be primed to act against our modern interests.

His fascinating book, co-authored with Dr. Douglas Kenrick, is “The Rational Animal: How Evolution Made Us Smarter Than We Think.”

Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. Pacific Time, 10-11 p.m. Eastern Time, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.

KTL RADIO presents THE GOD NEWS ft Dr Gabriel Oyibo

    in News

Join us tonite for a SPECIAL BROADCAST featuring Dr. Gabriel Oyibo, the man responsible for conveying the God Almighty Grand Unified Theorem (GAGUT). This scientific equation is the sum total of all things in existence, Gij,j=0 and he attributes it to the sum total of all things in existence that exists in US.

When we realize that we are all in this together the revelation that we are all one will permeate throughout the hearts and minds of the masses. The past has always granted us the necessary foundation when honored with the proper respect. The now is an infinite gift which is called the present, is it not? Tomorrow is our future and for millennia it has been exploited and endangered by way of genocidal massacres, rape, and historical plagiarism.

To ensure our future is to ensure our unity of existence. A unified field already exist awaiting our alignment attunement and acknowledgment of it, no matter the ideology, for science calls it the Big Bang, religion states god said... "Let there be light!" and ancient mystery systems proclaim the roaring waves of Nun. All producing the thought in particle form known as the atom of hydrogen (thought with mass). The universe is geometrical and time is a measurement of duration. With separatist views plaguing our community and integration taking us way out of context, a miracle equation for a solution is something we can all agree upon along with the old adage men lie women lie but numbers don't, in which Gij,j=0 and thats all we wrote.

    Waiting to exhale...I can't breathe!

    in Current Events

What should have been a happy day on December 3 had a damper on it because the No Indictment in the Eric Garner case was announced! That is my son's birthday and I was looking at him praying to NEVER have to go through what the families of these tragedies are going through. This is the second time in 2 weeks that we have had to hear the words NO Indictment. It was almost too much! I watched the video over and over just to make sure that I did not miss anything and what I saw was a man who was clearly frustrated and tired. That day was just not the day but what happened next still hurts to watch. I say him choked to the ground where the other officers piled on top of him. I saw his head pushed into the concrete all the while saying "I can't breathe". These would be his last words. I feel like I am suffocating as these police related shootings keep happening. Since then Tamir Rice the 12 yr old in Cleveland as has been laid to rest but the cop who shot him wasn't even fit for duty! So you ask yourself why was even a policeman? Today an unarmed African American man in Phoenix was shot to death after a pill bottle was mistaken for I guess a weapon. I just want to be able to exhale! I cannot remeber the last time I did. Tonight I will discuss the times when I felt this feeling over and over!

KTL RADIO presents RHETORIC vs the VULGUS: LOGIC vs LOGIA ft Buda Klynx

    in News

Join KNOW THE LEDGE RADIO for the highly anticipated return of BUDA KLYNX. We will juxtapose logic and logia to explore isolation or the presence of anything postulated thereby contextualizing rhetoric, law and other discourses/ideologies imposed in the creation of the vulgus. Thus we will provide an interpretive format for the emotional and sensory assault our spiritual and cultural movements attempt to address with no avail.

In doing so we will understand the paradox of the logo and avoid logomachy and semantic circumlocution.

    Philmchology w/Brenda B: Pieces of April (2003)

    in Film

Watch the Trailer for: Pieces of April (2003)

Join us for a discussion of Thanksgiving and all the little and large thngs that can go...completely awry!  Whether you are cooking the dinner, preparing for the dinner, or forced (sometimes it seems) to attend the dinner, the holidays can often be a "trying" time.

Holidays are full of traditions and people we know, don't know, and sometimes are a surprise, but the energy is prime for emotional upheavals and offhand remarks.  You might hear things like: "Oh don't be so sensitive!" or "I was only joking" and the ever popular "Do you think you should be eating that, or having another, or Haven't you had enough?"  Yes it's the prime time of people releasing all their "judgemental" skills that may not be appreciated.  Still---we all are grateful deep down that we are connected to someone even if they are far away.  Thanksgiving is just that: Giving thanks for what's brought us to where we are or are going!

In PART TWO we will discuss the solution as to how to rid yourself of this parasite. The solution is non compromising, you HAVE to rid yourself of this parasite for GOOD! People have been reluctant to do so, up until this point though.

Now that the technology exists to rid ourselves of this parasite, Moorpheus is prepared to sound the alarm...it is TIME FOR THE EXODUS!!

Changing Your Psyche after a Disability - Dream Catchers - Les Paul

    in Culture

I don’t know about you but I need a motivational booster shot for those ambitious New Year’s resolutions and the Christmas season and ways to help prevent the holiday blues so you can start changing your life! Brain Injury and Mental health professionals have significantly underestimated the importance of lifestyle factors as contributors to and treatments for multiple psychopathologies, for fostering individual and social well-being, and for preserving and optimizing cognitive function. Now my question to you is what are you willing to do to change your circumstances? We often find ourselves comparing about our circumstances then get mad and soon after quit. He adds that "therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLCs) are underutilized despite considerable evidence of their effectiveness in both clinical and normal populations." Healthcare professionals are more likely to prescribe meds than to show their troubled, depressed, anxious and unhappy clients how to help themselves by changing the way they live. For that, we can thank America's obsession with quick and easy fixes, like popping a pill for whatever ails you, whether indigestion or the blahs. I want everyone to think of this as the greatest race of a life time and we can all be part of it so join me to help  start changing the World view on people with disabilities by taking charge of your own destiny now. So take a chance and help start a National and International dialogue to begin the discussion.
