Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1148

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Donna (Dee) Wood from West Virginia, a verbal abuse survivor (as both a child and adult) who says she would be honored to tell her story in the hope she could help others. The devastating effects of the abuse lasted for over forty years, through most of her life. The trauma she endured through her mother’s husband brought a partial amnesia. She writes, "I lived on a small farm in a remote part of southern West Virginia. I was a very introverted child, extremely fearful of strangers." Her mother's husband, who she and her brother always called by his first name, Quentin (never Daddy or Dad), had an intense dislike of people. She goes on, "He never talked to us, unless it was to criticize, intimidate or inflict some form of verbal abuse." He sometimes administered severe belt beatings, beyond the necessary punishable offence, if it indeed was an offense. Her childhood trauma led to a difficult life. But Dee's on a better path now. "If I had known that the problems in my life were due to a term referred to as child abuse earlier in my life," she says, "and if I'd received the appropriate counseling and therapy, then my life would have been much easier and better. Yet, I believe if I had not gone through the trauma of those years I would not be the person I am today." Now she's a person who is more accepting, compassionate and understanding of others who have suffered and still suffer from different types of abuse. "I thank the Lord Almighty for answering my prayers to be whole," Dee writes. "I am still recovering, but I feel a lot more whole today."

"In Other Words…" with Donna Saunders

    in Lifestyle

My guest this week is Donna Saunders. She is a doctor twice over: in Clinical Psychology and in Ministry. Her primary focus is, not surprisingly, children and the community. She is co-founder and CEO of Guide Community Health Services. Its focus is preventative and aimed more at children in an attempt to reverse some of the disparity in health caused by economic and social issues these families face.

Dr. Saunders has done a lot of work exploring the connection between spirituality, and physical and social health. She has lectured on the topic, including for the Family Research Council, the Department of Health and Human Services, Howard University Graduate School of Education, and many other organizations.

We will also touch very briefly on her views on the most recent SCOTUS decision.

"The Journey" w/Donna Hopkins on When Passion Meets Purpose

    in Religion

She is a two time breast cancer survivor, has a story of an in and out medical procedure turning into an unforeseen amputation. What was this about? In a sense, she was blindsided, never saw any of that coming. But she certainly didn't see all of the transforming power of God that would come her way to impact her life so greatly and touch the lives of those around her so intensely. You will never view your life the same after hearing this remarkable young woman of faith.

Join us as we talk with our very special guest, Ms. Donna Hopkins as she talks about "The Journey" which is her life. Her story will change your perspective on life and on your own journey and is guaranteed to reignite your desire to persevere and pursue all that The Lord has ordained for your life.

God's will is that your passion would intersect with your God-given purpose and cause you to experience life in ways that you never thought possible. He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we could ever as or think.
