Doni Belau launched Girls’ Guide to Paris in September of 2009 because of her long-time love and passion for Paris and France in general. She and her husband owned an apartment in Paris for six years and now have a house on the Dordogne river in the Bordeaux region.GirlsGuideToParis.com is an all-encompassing online city guide and features over 4,000 pages of fun ideas, services and insider tips for shopping in, dining in and visiting Paris—all tested and personally selected with care by Doni and her team of locally based editors. GG2P has various projects under development, including their recently launched Travel Club, iPhone applications, downloadable walking tours and a weekly radio show. Current projects include Girls’ Guide to Paris the e-book and Girls’ Guide to Paris et Plus e-magazine both to launch this year. Before the travel business overtook her life, she was for a fundraiser, an activist, and a political and not-for-profit consultant. In 2006 Doni encouraged her young friend Whitney Johnson to start Ubuntu Africa and together they conceived of an organization that would help, assist and empower children and young adults who have HIV/AIDS in South Africa. Now, five years later, they have helped to save and extend the lives of hundreds of HIV positive children outside of Cape Town in their after-school care center in the township of Khayletisha. The Bible has a lot to say about business, money, leadership, and success. I realized this when I was open to realizing it. It took the recession and subsequent losses to realize that I had the answers all along, in fact, I had read the answers before the problems existed and had the tools and strategies to avoid many of the heartaches, if only...
I was an active and practicing Christian before the recession. The Lord blessed our family with financial prosperity back then. As President Obama defines rich - anyone making $250K or more, we were pretty darned close. Profitability was so normal for us, that the idea of one day being broke never entered our minds, nor our way of life.
Despite how much we earned, there was very little saved. We racked up credit card debt because paying those cards were never a struggle. Life was good. Then the recession hit.
After we bought my husband a brand new $47K truck, we were about to buy me a new vehicle too and something made me postpone that purchase. I had already noticed our monthly income slipping from the $20K+ average into lower numbers and figured I would wait till things picked up a bit. They never did. Our young construction company in Florida, slipped into the abyss of the real estate bubble never to recover.
Thankfully, one year prior, I had taken a Christian Finance workshop and changed our spending habits. One year of biblical finance kept us from total destruction.
I turned to the Word of God for help, consolation and guidance, and God showed me that the Bible was indeed a practical, relevant guide to success. I had the answers all along. We simply ignored them, and our end result was a merciful version of what we truly deserved. I share some of my findings with you in my book, The Bible on Business.
Join Dr. Teresa Graham and the Girls Aound The Table as they discuss, "Is The Bible Real or Fake?" The show starts @ 7:00PM (CST) & 8:00PM (EST). Some people think the Bible is just a good book!
