Military Monday Replay with John D. Gresham & USNI Author Capt. Alfred McLaren

    in History

It is ofter forgotten that just 60 years ago, man knew more about the surface of the moon than about was under the artic icecap. Then, with the coming of nuclear powered submarines in the late 1950's, the U.S. Navy began to explore and operate under the polar ice pack, and the Cold War took a new and deadly turn. Following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1955, Alfred McLaren took a career path that would make him one of the greatest Arctic explorers of all time. Following a tour aboard USS Greenfish (SS 351), Maclaren moved over to his first nuclear powered submarine, USS Seadragon (SSN 584), and began a career of Arctic exploration that has made him a household name in the field. This culminated in the late 1960s when he was part of the commissioning crew of USS Queenfish (SSN 651), which he later commanded on a landmark under ice survey of the Siberian Continental Shelf. His Arctic explorations, along with many other Cold War missions and patrols, made Capt. McLaren something of a living legend within the " Silent Service," which he remains today.

To learn more about Capt. McLaren, the submarines that he served on, and his explorations/missions during his years of service on American submarines, join best-selling author, historian, journalist, documentary filmmaker, and radio host John D. Gresham (Greshamj01) for Military Monday (#MilitaryMonday on the Writestream Radio Network (@Writestream)) at 1 PM EDT. This week John will be interviewing U.S. Naval Institute Press (@USNIBooks) author and submariner Capt. Alfred McLaren about his submarine career, and his new book, SILENT AND UNSEEN, a memoir of his naval career. So please tun in to hear the interview of a memorable explorer and Cold Warrior.

    Interview with James D. Hale

    in Culture

Tune in this week with your host SIN JONES for a round table discussion with James D. Hale founder of the former Church of IV Majesties responsible for a media whirlwind in Oklahoma City, when his group scheduled a mock-exorcism at the Civic Center in 2010.  The group dismantled shortly thereafter but still enjoys trolling the locals.  Now-a-days James is busy forming a local Biker group that is open to Satanists among its ranks.  We will be discussing the event from his point of view, addressing criminal accusations, his recent interview for the documentary film The Real Enemy and what the media attention amounted to for personal gain.  James is a writer, local rabble rouser and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.  His 14 year old daughter received some local media attention when she called out a local school for discrimination against Satanists.

    Scott Wolter: America Unearthed

    in News

America is full of archaeological secrets buried in the earth. America Unearthed  features forensic geologist Scott Wolter -- considered a real-life Indiana Jones by some -- travels across the country to uncover some of the hidden treasures and history associated with them.

Most Americans don't know about the country's past, and the history that people do know may not always tell the whole story. Ancient symbols, religious relics and other artifacts that Wolter unearths indicate that various civilizations have left their mark on the nation.

In this special program, Scott will provide his insights on some of the discoveries he's uncovered, many which are not aired on his television program.

While working his “day job” as a world-renowned forensic geologist and the president of the Minnesota-based American Petrographic Services, Scott Wolter began developing a new science called archaeopetrography–a scientific process used to date and understand the origins of mysterious stone artifacts and sites. The first artifact Scott studied using this new science was the Kensington Rune Stone, which he believes is an authentic, pre-Columbian land claim carved here in America by none other than the Knights Templar. The Kensington Rune Stone was the subject of a documentary special called Holy Grail in America that aired on HISTORY in 2009. Now, in America Unearthed on H2, Scott has the chance to use forensic geology and archaeopetrography to explore many other untold stories in American history, changing everything we think we know about our past.
