Meet the Women Organizing Marijuana Law Reform & Drug Law Reform Symposiums

    in News

Marijuana legalization measures have been a mixed bag of good and bad for medical marijuana patients. With California most likely to have a legalization initiative on the ballot in 2016, legalization proponents want to work with medical marijuana patients to ensure that their rights are protected under any marijuana legalization initiatives that are on the ballot.

Dale Sky Jones is Director of the Coalition for Cannabis Policy Reform, a California based nonpartisan organization dedicated to ending marijuana prohibition through ballot initiatives, legislative collaboration and public education campaigns. As the shows first guest, Ms. Jones will provide information on the series of roundtable discussions being held in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego and Santa Ana on Jan. 30 and 31. Information on prospects for the 2016 initiatives and how patients can work together to make sure they do not have a negative impact is at the center of these community forums.

Students for Sensible Drug Policy at the University of California at Irvine are sponsoring a symposium on Saturday, Feb. 21 that will bring together experts from the legal, political, and judicial arenas, as well as civil rights activists, harm reduction workers, entrepreneurs, and full-time reform workers for an in-depth look at how U.S. drug policies have affected society, and what lies ahead on the horizon.

The show’s second guest is Lauren Ayn Mendelsohn, coordinator for SSDP at UCI who is also a J.D. Candidate, 2016. She will explain the ins and outs of this important symposium and reveal the names of the invited speakers and participants. Marijuana law reform is a key component of the reform process and Ms. Mendelsohn will provide information on how this is incorporated into the symposium’s presentations.

LatinoTalk Texas 2015, 0008 Immigration, Cuba & More Latino issues

    in Politics

Today's show including important essays by Leslie Sanchez, Alex Gonzalez and Alex Nowrasteh. Each has in depth analysis of the immigration debate and the political motivations behind it. Alex Gonzalez effectively defeats the "Secure the Border First with a fence!" policy of the anti-immigration bigots. Then Leslie Sanchez opines about the motivation behind Obama's executive action to reduce the horrendous hardships he had already cost many millions of Latinos in America. Why would he do that? Sanchez suspects it may be because some GOP types like Greg Abbott in Texas did rather well among Latinos in heavily Latino districts. Thus, her conclusion is that Obama and the Democrats may be in trouble with Latinos. Latinos Ready To Vote. I have my doubts about that but it is true that it appears some few Republicans did fairly well among some Latino sectors, most likely because the Democrat candidate was so liberal and radical that traditionally Democrat voting Latinos simply stayed home. Later, author David Whitehead Jr. called in to discuss Hispanic outreach among Republicans and he admits the existence of anti-Latino bias among Tea party types. I discuss how the evil Tanton Network, a radical environmentalist and white supremacist organization has injected their anti-immigration policies into the Republican Party via the Tea Parties. We didn't get to discuss the changes in policy concerning Cuba.

A Just Cause Coast2Coast - Why Prisons in the United States Need Reform

    in US Government

Sam Thurman, Cliff Stewart and Lisa Stewart of the Colorado exoneration firm A Just Cause, discuss what happens when the wheels of justice trample unbridled over the rights of innocent Americans.

Although the American system of justice is the most-respected worldwide, it is still a system designed, and operated, by humans, which means it's not perfect. Sam, Cliff, and Lisa will highlight ongoing struggles against "the system" to free wrongfully imprisoned people, and what happens when justice miscarries against an actually innocent person.

Our Special Guests for tonight's show are Alex Friedmann, Prison Legal News and Eli Lehrer, R Street Institute. Both will be sharing their thoughts and opinions on why prison reform is so needed in our United States' prisons.

A Just Cause is currently campaigning for "FreeTheIRP6," who's been wrongly imprisoned in Florence, CO for a crime they didn't commit. Read full story: www.freetheirp6.org.

He is the survivor of an incredible history of childhood brain injuries. I'd like to thank: all our listeners for bringing our voices, to your home, or your mobile device wherever you are around the world. Additionally, I’d like to give a big thank you to this show’s sponsors: Martha Marcum, mother of a brain injury survivor and author of MARTHA'S FABLES and
There may be no greater loss than losing one’s ability to make sense of the real world. From Tragedy to Triumph is a tale of an incredible journey. It traces a path of young girl growing up in a humble Irish background to becoming a mother, a wife, and successful businesswomen only to have it all dashed by a terrible brain trauma that left her in the grips of confusion and terror. Against the backdrop of her life across continents; this is a story of one woman’s triumph against the odds. It involves a multiplicity of human dramas with each character playing an integral role. Supported by amazing jazz and theater personalities, her family and dearest friends Taylor tells a story of her terrible ordeal and the suffering of those who loved her. It also tells of her quest for justice in one of Canada's most protracted civil cases that provided little recompense for her years of suffering and losses.
