Let's talk about art!
Whether you're an artist or not, life with a brain injury takes a ton of creativity. I left my career as a rehabilitation clinician and became an artist after a TBI in 2010. The arts saved me by giving me a community and a way to explain my situation in a way other people could get it.
Making art can be adapted to any and all disabilities, and there are as many types of art or ways of expression as there are people. How do you use art? Personal expression, therapy, rehabilitation, political statement, or community building?
Whether you do drawing, photography, music, decorating, writing, sculpting, painting, sewing, movies, graffiti or any type of art, let's chat! You can introduce listeners to your art form and share with us the ways you adapt your art to work for a person living with a brain injury.
In the beginning art fairs were created and artists and art buyers flocked to attend. You were one of them. Your mother and your friends thought your work was wonderful and maybe they were right, so off you went to the marketplace. How did it go? Was it a triumph or a humbling experience?
A panel of beginner and experienced artists from various media discuss their "first time." What you will learn:
how they prepared
where they were, big or small fairs
how it impacted their lives
their biggest disappointments and their biggest surprises
learning from their own mistakes vs learning from other's mistakes
what they wish they had known then and how they used that information
the good, the bad and the really ugly
how to do three shows in three days and other extreme adventures
their #1 tip for a first time show

Psa 8:2 KJV - Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
Psa 8:3 KJV - When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

Art Gutkin retired as a Trial Attorney after nearly 40 years of practice. Art felt that the anger and aggressiveness of the legal practice was not the direction he wanted to follow the remainder of his life. Two months after his retirement he was given prayer beads by one of his older pre-law students who told him he had a gift. Two nights later, Art had a vivid dream allowing him to recognize gifts that he never realized he possessed. Shortly after the dream, he obtained the ability to heal people within minutes of many diseases which include chronic and acute pain, MS, RA, cancer, autoimmune issues and many other maladies.
Art also is able to observe, through meditation, his client's lives from the womb through the formative years to discover the roots of adult issues, both physical and emotional.
Art, a certified Hypnotherapist by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, then employs, in some cases, hypnosis to resolve these issues. Art has spent over 220 classroom hours learning general hypnosis and Advanced Hypnotherapy in Past Life, Womb and Between Lives Regression techniques.

This month's guest: Jade Bryan of Jade Films and Entertainment: http://jadefilm.com/ . Jade is a Black, Deaf filmmaker using film to bring out the stories from many communities and cultures that are under-represented, objectified, and misunderstood.
Stories from the brainreels is our time to share real stories about real brains.
This show highlights the stories, arts, and activism, and advocacy of folks with brain injuries and other disabilities. It's not a show about medicine, research or rehabilitation. We want to know how you explore day to day life with brain injury. And we want to use our stories to connect with the larger disability community.
