Daniel “Diggy” Simmons, son of rapper and Run-DMC co-founder Joseph Simmons with his second wife Justine, he is fifteen years old. He is the fourth child of Joseph Simmons and is the elder brother to Russy Simmons and Miley Simmons the newest member of the Simmons family . He recently started in a new school and is dealing with issues like his family's affluence and how he is financially different from the kids in school. Daniel Simmons appeared in Run's House, an MTV reality series. Run's House features the Simmons family, from rapper-reverend-rapper Joseph Simmons to his second wife Justine. Since the series ended in 2009, he pursued a career in music and released his first mixtape called “First Flight.” The next year, he was signed to Atlantic Records and has worked with artists like Jacob Latimore and Dionne Bromfield. He can also be heard on the Mindless Behavior song “Mrs. Right.” This week, J'Wan Yvette shines her artist spotlight on Diggy Simmons.
The teenage son of Run-DMC’s Rev Run Simmons, and nephew of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, recalls how he got started as an MC. “A lot of people think this is new to me, but I’ve been rapping since I was five years old,” First Flight singer Diggy Simmons tells host Timothy Hodge. “I was young, so people used to write my rhymes. But I kinda stopped rapping when I was 10. Then this summer I was making tracks on my laptop. No microphone, no nothing. And I put out this remix to Asher Roth’s She Don’t Want A Man, and it got really good feedback. A friend of mine, Young Jerz, was like, ‘That’s crazy! What are you gonna do next?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ He was like, ‘Are you gonna do a mixtape? You gonna show it to your dad? And I was like, ‘Yeah, a mixtape sounds amazing.’”

I believe that, in order to learn what you don't know, you have to open your mind to concepts that you would not have imagined on your own. Russell Simmons is a genius when it comes to marketing the Hip Hop style of music in America.
On today's show he will share some of his wisdom. I hope you listen and borrow some of those ideas for your own life.
Nell Simmons - R&B Artist 2:15pm
Phenomenal Singer who has been blazing the scene as of late. One of the most powerful voices in the world this woman will blow you away. If you were to ask Nell who she is and what she contributes to the industry Nell says "I am something of the opposite having come to the industry only recently and largely in isolation." My story is about someone who came to make music later in life and had to do so using modern desktop technology and the internet to produce and promote more out of necessity than anything else. I think I can provide some insights for other emerging artists trying to find their way in the modern music industry.
Teddy Garcia - Singer/Songwriter Blues Jazz Artist 3:15pm
Teddy Garcia (48) in an emerging singer/songwriter, anchored in the blues tradition but drawing from many different contemporary styles to create his unique sound. Teddy’s musical style is diverse, with elements of jazz, latin, soul, rock and even funk in the songs though generally they all have an origin in the blues. His vocal style is smooth and mellow with melodic, clean guitar solos complimenting the lyrical content. His songs often relate to the classic blues themes of love, fatalism and restlessness.
L. Young - R&B Artist 4:15pm
L. Young has established himself as an artist, writer, and performer. He has been credited for writing, music, and production for several artists, as well as platinum selling soundtracks. “My music is the bridge to all my dreams, and the starting point for my main purpose on this planet. Through music I'm learning who I actually am as a person,”
Breastfeeding in public has been a hot topic in the birthing and parenting worlds. Often breastfeeding in public is treated as taboo and breastfeeding mothers may be asked to leave stores or businesses. When did breastfeeding your baby become taboo or controversial? Does the lack of acceptance of public breastfeeding affect breastfeeding rates? According to the CDC, less than 80% of babies are ever breastfed, with rates dropping to less than 50% by age 6 months. In many parts of the world, breastfeeding rates are much higher and public breastfeeding is widely accepted--why not here in the U.S.? What can we do to normalize breastfeeding so that woman are free to breastfeed their babies whenever and whereever they need to? What can we do to promote the diversity of breastfeeding, whether it be culturally or even in the ways women choose to breastfeed (on the breast, pumping, tandem, etc.)?
Vaness Simmons, photographer and founder of the Normalize Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign is on the show tonight to discuss how she's out to postively impact breastfeeding in the United States and what you can do to help. Find out more at http://normalizebreastfeeding.org/.

New York City has been very much part of the public consciousness in recents days, and as hip hop is concerned, we're still the center of the music, culture and politics. This was evident this week as news broke that Jay Z and Russell Simmons both spoke with Governor Cuomo about "reforming the justice system."
Whether or not this was just shrewed PR positioning or not remains to be seen. We'll discuss the meetings and ask the question, "Are Jay Z or Russell Simmons capable representatives of hip hop? Can they make a difference?"
Of course, Jay and Russell weren't the only ones making noise in regards to the protests. Nas and J. Cole participated, and of course, the lesser known, but no less important hip hop-oriented organiztations, artists and 'heads' continue to be out in force.
Speaking of which, we'll hear from MC/activist and more, Hasan Salaam, fresh from his recent album release and amazing interview with our host Manny Faces, on his sister podcast, The Manny Faces Show. He'll give an update on his album, the memorial for affiliate J Arch, and Hasan's upcoming event, celebrating his more "erotic" side activities.
Speaking of J. Cole, along with DJ Premier/Royce the 5' 9" project and Ghostface Killah's new album, a lot of veteran NY artists are bringing great material to the table. While the new jacks including the highly anticipated release from Joey Bada$$ are due out soon, we have to sit back and say, "Damn, New York and NY-influenced hip hop is pretty damn strong right now..."
As we always said it would be.
All this, plus event reviews and previews, and YOUR CALLS.
