My Kids' Different - And I Think It's Cool

    in Dads and Family

Doesn't it seem these days that how a child "should" be is getting more and more defined, and more and more limited? If your child doesn't conform to how they "should" be, how often are they made wrong?
What if we were to look at another possibility with children, and see where they can be themselves. What if we taught them not to conform, but to have allowance for other peoples points of view, while still having their own?
Brendon is a single Dad with a difference. His approach to parenting is one of empowerment, choice, contribution and question and he would like to offer you the possibility of a completely different reality with your children. For many parents, struggle and sacrifice is their daily routine and glimpses of joyful freedom can be scarce. As a single Dad, Brendon has changed what once was a difficult burden into a dynamic and easy exchange with his child. He now has more space to be him by allowing and watching his son grow into his own.

A Different Kind Of Love--HIV/AIDS: A Family Disease

    in LGBT

World AIDS Day, observed on December 1 every year, is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and commemorate people who have died. If you understand how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and the reality of living wih HIV today, you can use this knowledg to take care of your health and the health of others. You will also help ensure that everyone living with HIV is treated fairly, and with respect and understanding.

November's show will feature the book, One Family's AIDS, by host, J'son M. Lee. One Family’s AIDS is the story of Gene Alexander McCoy - a young, educated African-American man who finds himself in a race for time to make peace with his family and God upon being diagnosed with HIV. The story, told from four different perspectives, chronicles Gene's life as he confronts such issues as HIV/AIDS, family, abandonment and homophobia. With the help of his over-bearing mother, a nurturing grandmother, and an uncle who doesn't feel comfortable talking about Gene's sexuality or disease, we learn the complexities of love and relationships, the damaging results of fear and shame, and how the relentless quest for the truth ultimately leads us back to each other.

Our guest host will be Levon Putney, News Anchor/Reporter at WCBS 880 News.
