She has penned the highly acclaimed, “Diary of a Mad First Lady,” “The Preacher’s Wifey,” and “My Baby Is Not a Mistake." We'll discuss her latest release, Diary of a Mad First Lady 2, her personal journey, successful plays, and much more so don't miss it!

    Book Blurb:

Lisa Hodges is the quiet, reserved first lady of the fast growing Pilgrim Baptist Church; and unbeknown to those around her, her quietness is a direct reflection of her discontent life. Charles, her husband, has his focus on climbing the ministerial ladder--and the many women standing in line to fulfill his every need and desire--that he fails to acknowledge his wife's growing frustration. Lisa, the mother of three, has gotten lost in the lives of her children--and in the role of being a first lady--and has long ago given up on obtaining any happiness or success of her own. Believing that her only joy came from her weekly meetings with her other first lady friends, the very sexy and talented Alex Mitchell arrives at her church, causing Lisa to feel her only happiness came in a brown-eyed, caramel-skinned, muscled, 6-foot frame. The two soon begin a sexy, whirlwind affair that results in a forbidden, shared love and an unwanted pregnancy. On the other hand, with secrets of his own, Alex threatens to expose them all, one secret at a time. Will Lisa be able to deny her love for Alex and fix the mess she's gotten herself into? Or will her actions bring down her husband, the church, and her family?

  • The UnSlut Project: Stop "Slut" Shaming and Sexual Bullying

    in Relationships

Have you ever been called a "slut"? If so, how did you feel? Whether you are sexually active or not the term can be hurtful and embarrassing. If you’re a parent of a teen, have you heard about "slut" shaming and the dire effects it can have on your impressionable teenager?

"Slut" shaming and sexual bullying is occurring every day in America. Many teens are experiencing these issues and feel uncomfortable reporting it to their parents or other adults. Emily Lindin, who founded of The UnSlut Project in April 2013, found herself in this exact situation when she was eleven. She began journaling about these incidents of "slut" shaming and sexual bullying she faced in school.

As Emily published her journal entries, she hoped that her words would reach teens experiencing the same thing bringing awareness about this prevalent issue. The UnSlut Project started as a small online personal submission and has now grown to incorporate the stories of girls, women, and men of many ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. Emily will be discussing the UnSlut Project and her upcoming video project “Slut: A Documentary Film” and her soon to be released book, “UnSlut: A Diary and A Memoir”.

Emily Lindin is the founder of The UnSlut Project, ? an online community where survivors of sexual bullying and "slut" shaming can share their stories, and where girls who are currently suffering can find support and solidarity.

?The UnSlut Project's crowd-funded film, "Slut: A Documentary Film," is in post-production and Emily's book, "UnSlut: A Diary and A Memoir," will be published in Dec., 2015.

Award Winning Author Tessa Shaffer of Heaven Has No Regrets

    in Christianity

Greetings From Insanity to Sane welcomes Tessa  Shaffer Author of "Heaven Has No Regrets" please join us for an hour of inspiration August 13, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.CST. To be apart of the audience please dial (323) 693- 3830. If at anytime you desire to speak with our guest please dial 1.

When we were 16, my cousin and I joked about writing a book together someday and publishing our diary entries from the same dates.  How different, yet the similar they would all be.  How messed up a lot of them would seem.  But we loved thinking about how those entries put together would tell a story.  Our story.  A story of struggle and survival. Most of all, we liked the idea of someday being the survivors of our own story.  We both did survive those stories, but in different ways.

"The girl with the soft voice holds up a picture and asks, "When was this one taken..." And she holds the picture carefully by the edges. She knows that these pictures are all that I have left, and even they tell a lie. I think about my cousin and I in the 'selfie' that my friend is now holding, and how neither one of us will ever be those same two people again. She got promoted to angel wings. And I now have to walk the earth to feel all the pain of a rapture gone wrong..."  ~Heaven Has No Regrets

The day she passed away, I started writing in a peach notebook.  At first, they were all letters to her. Then, there were more notebooks filled with memories and questions. Eventually, I started writing about the pain.  Not just the pain of death, but the pain of life.  The pain of secrets.  The pain of survival.  Heaven Has No Regrets is the collection of my grief and the journey of my healing.

Hebrew Schools simply aren’t succeeding in melding our children to our faith.  I have had tremendous success doing this “melding” and giving our Jewish children identity!

Playing concerts in the metropolitan area to illustrate the themes of my books.  Most times I bring students (both past and present) to join me; they sing, they play instruments…I run a weekly sing-along at the Riverdale Y where I play songs from a songbook I fashioned.   The audience requests songs and we “sing-a-long.”  I have also performed programs highlighting such composers as George Gershwin for members of the “Y” and for Holocaust Survivors, including one highlighting Sholom Aleichem and “Fiddler on the Roof.”
