Episode #94 ~ XFC President; John Prisco & XFC Fighter; Dhiego Lima

    in Sports

Today is jam packed with XFC awesomeness!
First up to the mic will be Dhiego Lima. Lima has been just less than briliant in his young career and a proud free agent pick up by the XFC.
Lima is currently signed to fight Welterweight sensation; Ricky Rainey at XFC:25 (Lima has just a 1 fight contract)
Secondly but not least in any sense, the man behind the XFC brand; John Prisco (XFC El Presidante)
Prisco is a man on a mission and with the XFC being a quaint MMA secret being kept in the shadows has allowed him to build his brand of MMA the way he wanted to without being rushed like many others.
After the interviews ~ Jay and Jesse will breakdown some matches from the inaugural Fox Sports 1 / UFC Fight Night 26
And then the fellas will continue their Over  / Under of the NFL, this time with the NFC.

Ep#92 - Ancient Elongated Skulls of Peru w/Guest Brien Foerster

    in Entertainment

    Show starts at 9:05pm EST!

Tonight we are joined by Brien Foerster to discuss his research into the ancient elongated skulls of Peru.

Brien Foerster was raised on the west coast of Canada, where he developed a fascination for the Native people, their art, and oral traditions. This led to his becoming a professional sculptor, after graduating with an honours BSc degree from the University Of Victoria. In 1995, he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the building of the 62 foot double hull sailing canoe (ancestor of the modern day catamaran) and the restoration of the famous Mo'olele sailing canoe. He started an online outrigger paddle business, which flourished internationally.

Peru became his next major area of interest. The study of the Inca culture led to his writing a book, A Brief History of the Incas, and he is now the assistant director of the Paracas History Museum in Paracas, south of Lima.

Bad sentences beware of Washington Post nonfiction book critic Carlos Lozada

    in Writing

Woe be unto you writer, should you land in a Washington Post article titled “The five worst sentences I read in January.” When I read that post written by the new nonfiction book critic Carlos Lozada, I knew two things. First, I needed to interview Lozada. Second, I was afraid to write him an email.

Lozada’s voice engaged me because in addition to rhetorical smarts, he’s pretty funny. Though he’s been at the paper for several years, he began his new role at Book Party in January.  I’m proud to announce the March 22 episode of Behind the Prose will feature an interview with Lozada. In classic Behind the Prose fashion, I’ll learn how he approaches his own writing craft and process and what it’s like to read and write for a living.

Besides the five worst sentences he read in January, we’ll discuss his Book Party posts including the hilarious book review “Reggie Love on life as Obama’s “chief of stuff” and the ballooning list of journalism cliches forbidden in the The Post’s Sunday Outlook section.

Oh, and if you do find yourself in one of Lozada’s worst sentences articles,  don’t be upset. He just shames your offending sentence, not your entire book.

Unless, I suppose, it needed it.

Carlos Lozada is associate editor and nonfiction book critic at the Washington Post, where he has worked since 2005 in various capacities, including economics editor, national security editor and Outlook editor. Previously, he was managing editor of Foreign Policy magazine and a Knight-Bagehot fellow in economics and business journalism at Columbia University. A native of Lima, Peru, he is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Princeton University.
