Episode 70: Detroit Lions 2015 NFL Draft recap

    in Sports

The Detroit Lions traded down in Round 1 and selected Duke guard Laken Tomlinson at the 2015 NFL Draft. Was that the right move early, and how did the Lions do from there? We break down the draft and try to figure out what it means for the upcoming season.

From there, we transition to the Detroit Tigers, who have posted a 4-3 record thus far on their road trip. Was  a weekend split in Kansas City a success? What's been most concerning early about the team?

Finally, we take quick look back at what went wrong in the Detroit Red Wings' Game 7 loss to Tampa Bay. Will Mike Babcock return?

5/6/15: Tigers/White Sox Recap, Griffins, Ed's Take on Mayweather/Pacquiao Fight

    in Sports

We recap the middle game of the 3-game series between the Tigers and Chicago White Sox. Alfredo Simon was scheduled to start on the pitcher's mound against Chris Sale. Their offense really needs to pick up some steam.

The Grand Rapids Griffins take a 1-0 series lead over the Rockford Ice Hogs with a 5-3 win at Van Andel Arena. Teemu Pulkkinen scored a hat trick.

I allow my co-host Ed Smith himself share his thoughts on the Floyd mayweather/Manny Pacquiao boxing fight last Saturday. Mayweather offers Pacquiao a rematch for next year.

Mayweather was sued for $20 million by his mother of his 3 children in defamation lawsuit yesterday.

The Texas Rangers are not hot, and MLB baseball could benifit from some middle of the road production.

We'll also ask the question if it's too early in the season to sell across the board. It's worth mentioning both the Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies are completely out of it, and have talent to spare. Will they try to get ahead of the market and sell now?

If you want to be apart of the show, or just want to stop off annd say hi, hit us up on Twitter @InsiderSteve and @LTRReed. We're excited to have you along for the ride. Now grab your bat, see that fastball, and drive that sucker into The Power Alley!

Party's Over! Til The Next Event (Ant Man in July) Back 2 Business Wed @7:30pm

    in Politics Conservative

Good Evening, people!  Get your latest "ringside" sonic experience this Wednesday, courtesy of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review show airing promptly at 7:30pm EST.  Join Dburt and Capt. Kirk as they discuss the following issues:  as we readjust our senses from a less than stellar event filled weekend (Avengers 2, Mayweather fight), is it time that the public demand less hype and more substance from forthcoming pop culture events?; in light of Olympic legend, Bruce Jenner's transgender revelations, a recent NY Times op-ed discusses transgenders matriculating into Womens colleges; Dburt ponders why the PC police seem to be more critical of those that might be considered transracial (shout out to Sammy Sosa); a debate between Pastor Jamal Bryant and FOX' Megyn Kelly over the usage of the word "thug" during the media's reporting of the Baltimore riots affirms that liberals and conservatives both prefer to be right over righteous; are emails ruining the art of writing? (and by extension language and discourse?) ; Harvard economics professor, Dr. Roland Fryer may have cracked the code in closing the achievement gap between minorities and Whites.  And lastly, Dburt waxes about Dr. Marc Lamont Hill's recent interview on The Combat Jack podcast (hint: Black Progressives are engineered not unlike like an auto on a Detroit/Japan assembly line).  Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.
