America has an addiction problem, but it’s not just with drugs or alcohol—it’s with sugar. Sugar is in almost everything we eat—not just in the highly processed, fructose-soaked snacks we love, but hidden in “healthier” foods that most people wouldn’t expect, such as bread, fruit, and dairy. The average American consumes up to thirty-one pounds of sugar each year, even though a high-sugar diet can be detrimental to nearly all areas of health and beauty. The side effects aren’t just weight gain—they’re premature aging and increased risk of diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart disease, and even cataracts. In The Sugar Detox: Lose Weight, Feel Great, and Look Years Younger by nutritionist Brooke Alpert and dermatologist Dr. Patricia Farris, readers are given everything they need to know to begin a healthier lifestyle through an easy, low-sugar diet. The Sugar Detox contains a comprehensive, one-month plan to wean readers of their sugar cravings. The plan starts with the three-day Sugar Fix—three days with no sugar, no exceptions. It’s accompanied by the three-day Skin Fix, a pampering regimen of soothing skin treatments such as sea salt baths and black tea masks to counteract sugar-related skin damage. Once the initial cleanse has been completed, The Sugar Detox provides a four-week schedule of menu plans and fifty recipes, arming readers with information on which foods to eat, which foods to avoid, and how it all affects their health and appearance. By eliminating sugar and incorporating small changes, people can lead a healthier lifestyle and look years younger. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer talks to co-author, Brooke Alpert, MS, RD, CDN about her best-selling book, The Sugar Detox Diet.

Our culture today has become obsessed with diets. Instead of that word simply meaning, "that which you eat", it has become a word that implies deprivation, starving, restriction, and sacrifice. There are so many fads and theories about how to achieve that perfect body, (whether realistic or not), and yet more and more people are suffering with allergies, digestive disturbance, and more serious conditions like cancer, celiac, and Crohn's Disease, as well as eating disorders such as anorexia, bulemia, pica, and Pradar Willi Syndrome. Despite the media and the quest for the perfect figure, the obesity epidemic continues and we know all too well (hopefully) how this condition can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, not to mention other conditions like arthritis that are complicated by increasing weight.
Last time, we discussed how Ayurveda views food as medicine and how to incorporate Ayurvedic principles to achieve perfect weight and balance. Today Nick and Joanna will be discussing how hypnosis can help manage and heal the myriad of eating disorders that seem to affect us today.
Is it a matter of willpower, or are we powerless to make the changes we need to make to live a happier, healthier life where we can live longer and prevent disease before it starts?
Whether it's a matter of a few pounds you would like to lose, or a more serious problem of obesity and/or a related illness, hypnosis can help, along with a sensible diet and lifestyle that decreases stress, and brings some ease and sanity to this epidemic problem.

In the old days of traveling for me, we relied on fast food chains, processed foods, and bad sandwiches. This was considered normal eating for us, but not every day. When we decided to change our lifestyle and eating habits, I had no clue how to travel without bringing the whole kit 'n caboodle including the kitchen sink.
It's tough to stick to your usual and healthy diet while traveling, but it's not impossible. You barely have time to sleep, let alone think about how you will find healthy foods to eat, but there are some steps you can take to eat right while you're away. By taking a few extra minutes to adequately prepare for your trip and making wise choices when you are on the road, you can fuel your body and get the energy you need to power through your busy days. Don't miss our tips for eating healthy on the road. You'll find you can save money as well and enjoy the local foods.
I know when we travel and eat well we stay healthy, feel great and have more fun.
