    in Current Events

This is the final week of National Poetry Month. I've been trying to attend at least one literary event in the greater Boston area. I attended a reading by Author Maxine Hong Kingston. Today's episode will focus on Janis Ian's The Tiny Mouse, Fantasy Faire in SL, Brain Pickings's list of 15 children's books. This Sunday, I'm hosting a special two-hour poetry event with a fellow writer at Fantasy Faire

Poetry at Fantasy Faire, April 23-May 3

Celebrating its seventh year, Fantasy Faire 2015 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world. From Thursday, April 23 to Sunday May 3, treat yourself to eleven days of shopping, live music concerts, auctions, hunts, events and roleplaying as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.

    About Brain Pickings

Brain Pickings is a cross-disciplinary LEGO treasure chest, full of pieces spanning art, science, psychology, design, philosophy, history, politics, anthropology, and more; pieces that enrich our mental pool of resources and empower combinatorial ideas that are stronger, smarter, richer, deeper and more impactful. Above all, it’s about how these different disciplines illuminate one another to glean some insight, directly or indirectly, into that grand question of how to live, and how to live well.

Designer diagnosis. How do know what your clients really want?

    in Design

Top designers are talking about their strategies for ‘designer diagnosis,’ sleuthing out what people really want in their interior design.

Designers tread a careful path when trying to find out your true interior design dreams. What we say we like, isn't necessarily what we really want in our homes. It's the designer’s challenge to decipher, extrapolate, and really compare your taste, style, and day-to-day lifestyle. Being able to translate what you say, who you are, and what you do into a design that comforts, inspires, and delights you is what separates the very best designers from the rest.

We are talking to three extraordinary designers on today’s show about their ‘designer diagnosis’ style. The ‘Latina Martha Stewart’’ Vanessa DeLeon and the ‘Two Lovely Gays’ pair Russell Whitehead and Jordan Cluroe.

Vanessa DeLeon may be best recognized from NBC’s ‘American Dream Builders.’ She also has shared her design expertise on Food Networks, Restaurant Impossible, HGTV’s Generation Renovation, Designer Challenge & more. Vanessa has a signature 'Glamilistic' style that's developed into luxurious and succulent design experiences. But it all started with designing a Barbie house. And, yes, we’ll be talking about the ‘50 Shades of Grey’ bedroom she designed, too.

The ‘Two Lovely Gays’ Russell and Jordan became sensations in Britain after participating in the The Great Interior Design Challenge on BBC Two. With an exuberance and cutting-edge style the team are making over spaces that dazzle our senses. But the real star of their clan may be their dog Buckley.

The Importance of Plants in Our Lives and Well-Being with Guest Hanna Packer

    in Spirituality

Join Tina and Hanna Packer, from Hanna Packer Design in conversation about plants and their beautiful properties for Body, Mind and Spirit. Phone lines will be open 516-387-1936 and BlogTalkRadio chat-room

Hanna Packer is an award-winning landscape designer known for creating stunning gardens that are harmonious, sophisticated, and functional. Her projects benefit from direct involvement at all phases from design through installation and upkeep. Hanna's work has been honored with top awards and featured among the pages of design magazines including Architectural Digest and Dwell as well as landscape specialty books

Hanna is currently on  exhibit at Sotheby’s second annual Designer Showcase in New York open from 11-19 April.

Hanna Packer & Susan Cohen have been chosen to create a Showcase garden for the fifth floor exhibition space at Sotheby’s Manhattan headquarters where thirteen interior designers and design firms have curated a home. The Showhouse garden is a transitional area that will usher visitors into the house. The roughly 26-by-8 foot pergola will have hanging sculptural elements made from white orchids and moss. At one end of the exhibit will be a pair of five-foot-high marble fountains with shell forms that will be filled with plants. It will be simple and fresh. It is also a work of imagination. Architectural Digest is the media partner for the event and will be posting photos of our garden on their site. At the end of the ten-day exhibition, many items seen will be auctioned.hanna@hannapackerdesign.com
