This episode is being rebroadcast from Michele’s original radio show, “Your Life After Trauma.” If you are a trauma survivor, you may not realize how your experience is affecting your family or others around you. As a matter of fact, just attempting to survive your survival can take all of your focus without you even realizing what is happening to those close to you. On this episode, Christal Presley joins me to discuss her book “Thirty Days With My Father” and her experience as a family member of a trauma survivor. Then, Dr. Frank Ochberg shares why he believes perhaps you should switch from PTSD to PTSI. Do you know what that is? Listen in to find out! Michele Rosenthal is a popular keynote speaker, award-winning author and post-trauma coach. Her shows combine scientific research, cutting-edge guests and personal stories that highlight the challenges and successes of deliberately deciding to change the direction of your life. SK: What first got you interested in this line of work?MR: I struggled as a young girl with anxiety, feeling alone and isolated. I desired to learn the skills to connect at a deeper level. I wanted to learn to communicate my needs of feeling heard and “mattering” in the world. However, most importantly, I wanted to give back to my community; the very specific tools and skills that I had learned from my hard life experience. I have spent years in therapy and hundreds of thousands of dollars; however living with Christ in me provided me a strong foundation of faith and a daily practice of living in the moment which led to my recovery. Through my journey of self-discovery in my late thirties, a deep desire to advocate for the disadvantage and at-risk youth was developing, and I took a leap of faith, turning over my hidden skill-sets, and prayerfully considered my next step… God delivered to me and I transcribed the Girls in Power curriculum in written form in the summer of 2010 with the intention to launch a program, first for girls. My hope was to reach as many young women as possible, so they would not have to suffer in silence and live behind a mask, as long as I did.SK: Of all of that, what would you say is the most important, or the most prominent part of the job?MR: Getting the word out and generating sustainability---GIP needs funding in order to keep providing programs to youth and families. SK: Is there any part of your job that you especially love doing?MR: I love to teach young girls, teens, mothers and women.God has used my hurts for good and He has shown me how to package up the tools I have learned which have helped me live a more fulfilling life. God is using me, and through me He is letting me share these tools to help others heal, change their ways, change their hearts, cope and manage, develop a healthier mindset, and as well, contribute to society…creating sustainability all around…
Stressed out, out of control, overwhelmed, burnt out, anxious, depressed....The more I learn about stress, the more I realize that if we are to ever find balance and bliss, eliminating the effects of stress in our lives and our bodies must be our priority!
We'll talk about Breath as a Tool For Stress Busting and I'll teach you the Jin Shin Jyutsu 36 Conscious Exhalations Meditation, a great way to take a break and to establish a practice of mindful breathing!
"Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes a difference." ~Virginia Satir

At some point, you are going to face something that you never asked for and never wanted. What do you do? How do you cope?
Linda Graham, MFT, renowned psychotherapist and meditation teacher, says the answer lies in our ability to bounce back, also known as “resilience.” Our capacities for resilience are innate in the brain, hard-wired in by evolution and with focused practice; you can learn to strengthen your resilience muscle.
Linda’s newest book, Bouncing Back: Rewiring Your Brain for Maximum Resilience and Well-Being offers a blue print on how to bounce back from adversity by changing your brain.
Really, change your brain? Yes, you can, and it’s the traumas and tragedies of life that have the greatest capacity to create positive change.
In this interview, Linda reveals:
The 6 C’s of coping What it means to do one scary thing a day How to rewire unhelpful patterns through exercises that can increase our resilience capacity, and How to rebound from adversity back to our center Linda’s work draws upon the latest discoveries of neuroscience to teach us how to live effectively and peacefully in our daily lives. Meet Dale Stanton l the author of a memoir The Hooker's Daughter.
While raising her young family, Dale obtained her RN degree and practiced psychiatric nursing. She parlayed her medical and extensive sales experience to become CEO of her Destination Management Company which for twenty years organized conventions, corporate events, and meetings for local, national, and international guests. Dale conducted numerous educational seminars and assisted in developing a tourism college degree program.
She serves on the North Shore Board of Juvenile Scholarship Aid, volunteered as a Big Sister, and is an active member of Power of Women, National Association of Women on the Rise, and The Arizona Humanities Consortium for the Arts. A life-long learner, she studies Kabbalah and Torah and shares her personal journey to encourage others to rise above their circumstances, no matter how difficult, using their inner strength to determine the course of their own lives. She resides in Boston and Phoenix with her husband.
In 1950s Jewish Boston, Dale’s mother established a home-based business as a prostitute to remedy her husband’s inability to provide for his family. At age six, the author was answering the front door for johns. Neighbor children were forbidden to play with her and even the Girl Scouts asked her to leave. What a terrible irony, in a family with so many strange and twisted realities
The Hooker’s Daughter is a story of survival, driven by a strong will and an ability to extract positive qualities from a dysfunctional life, punctuated by immoral and illegal behaviors. The author was able to reconcile the reality of her environment with what she wished it to be. The resulting tenacity enabled Dale to cope with her terminally ill husband and widowhood at age 37..
