  • Christmas Eve Solidarity with Rev. Pinkney

    in Politics Progressive

December 15, 2014 should go down as the day when criminal injustice reigned supreme. Rev. Edward Pinkney was sentenced to 2.5 to 10 years in prison for alleged election fraud and Gov. Don Siegelman was denied his freedom while waiting for his appeal hearing on January 13th.

Ben Ptashnik and Andrea Miller speak with activists and supporters of Rev. Edward Pinkney and former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

This Christmas Reverend Pinkney will not be home with his family. He has been sentenced for up to 10 years in Prison on trumped up political charges because he has stood up to the 1% against the Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor.

He is in effect a political prisoner. Please stand in solidarity with Rev Pinkney and his wife Dorothy.

Don Siegelman was the extremely popular Democratic Governor of Alabama; there was talk that he could be a contender in the 2004 Presidential primary and stop the Republican takeover of the South. Karl Rove and his operatives knew they had to stop Don Siegelman and they went to extraordinary lengths to destroy his career.

    Project Empowerment - Marc Bekoff

    in Self Help

Project Empowerment is honored to have on author and Professor Marc Bekoff.  He is professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He has worked alongside leading writers and activists including Jane Goodall, Peter Singer, and PETA cofounder Ingrid Newkirk.

We’ll be discussing his new book Rewilding Our Hearts: Building Pathways of Compassion and Coexistence.

In wildlife conservation work, rewilding refers to habitat restoration and the creation of corridors between preserved lands to allow declining populations to rebound.  Marc Bekoff, one of the world’s most engaging animal experts and activists, here applies rewilding to human attitudes.  He argues that unless we rewild ourselves, becoming profoundly reconnected to nature and fundamentally shifting our consciousness, our conversation efforts will have but limited impact.

Please join us as we’ll be discussing this a so much more.  You can learn more about his work at www.literati.net/authors/marc-bekoff

Agitator Radio host Robert Dawkins discusses: progressive, politics, race relations, American politics, African American, culture, demographics, social justice, economic justice, racial disparity, justice, American history, society, social change, law enforcement, police, labor, labor organizing, organized labor, North Carolina, community action, community organization, and more!

Robert is joined by activists working to Free Rev. Edward Pinkney of Benton Harbor. Rev. Pinkney was charged with 5 counts of election fraud for allegedly changing dates on petition signatures by an all-white jury. No evidence, no witnesses were presented yet Rev. Pinkney was convicted and sentenced to between 2.5 and 10 years for something that would normally not be a crime. When there is a question about the validity of petition signatures, typically the signatures are simply not counted.

Traveling on the beats of drums, from the dusty streets of Soweto to all the corners of the world’s best and biggest stages, AFRICA UMOJA – which in Zulu means ‘together’ – tells the moving tale of indigenous South African music and dance from the earliest rhythms to the current club sounds of kwaito. Audiences all over the world have embraced the traditional love songs, lullabies and other musical expressions of rural life. They have also cried along in the city streets listening to music reflecting the pain of the migrant laborers and their families. The tale dances through sheebeens and the cultural melting-pot of Sophiatown. The heart is saddened by cold stories of forced removals yet the feet continue to stomp along with the explosions of gumboot dancing. The international audiences will relate to names such as Miriam Makeba (Mama Africa) and the late Dolly Radebe, while a thread of gospel music running through the tale recalls the huge helpings of faith and courage. This saw black South Africans through some of the country’s stormiest historical passages.

Dr Nevers Mumba- MMD Presidential Candidate

    in Politics

Dr Nevers Mumba is president of the embattled Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD), until recently he was on suspension and sidelined as the party presidential candidate in the upcoming polls scheduled for January 20, 2015 after the death of republican president H.E. Micheal Chilufya Sata. Dr Mumba is expected to successfully file for nomination as a presidential candidate on the MMD ticket after the Supreme Court's ruling in his favor. However, a lot of questions and issues surrounding the credibility of the party's ability to win this election need to be answered. A substantial number of National Executive Committee members supported the former president popularly known as "RB" with yet a group of MPs having openly endorsed the supposedly leading contender of this election, UPND president Hichilema Hakainde (HH); what is the next step and way forward for Dr Mumba and his "fragmented" party. Join us for this Saturday evening special feature as Dr Mumba outlines his strategy for his presidency and the MMD.
