Join Angela Lauria as the interviews author Nicole Pouchet on the publishing of her book, Annie's Defiance.
Annie's Defiance is the third book of Nicole's Elemental Myths series, so the topic was pretty set even before she started writing the book. She simply focused on the motivations of her characters and the story tells itself, as she put it.
Inspired by ancient Incan culture, the book is a paranormal romance involving a prophecy and powers over the elements. She equates the time she devoted to writing the book to life energy spent wisely since being an author is her passion, first and foremost. For Nicole, there's this thrill in finishing a book, even when there's a system or structure to the process. "Maybe I’m a type-A person to thrive with structure," she said, "but I couldn’t write a book without deadlines, editorial rules, etc."
She credits Difference Press for giving her lifelong habits that help to ensure that she can finish every book that she starts.

Tzu-jan – “of itself so”: Can we resolve unexpected circumstances before we acknowledge them fully?
Wu wei – “not forcing”: When do we need to understand and work with, rather than against, life's transitions?
Te – “virtue of living”: Why is it important that we do not compare or contrast ourselves against others, but work towards strengthening our sills and forgiving ourselves our weaknesses?
Yin/Yang: Is it true that we cannot understand nor appreciate the good in life without tasting pain?

The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Sumo Wrestler Kelly Gneiting.
Kelly Gneiting of northeastern Arizona won three sumo wrestling National Championship titles in the US between 2005 and 2007, and even competed in Japan in 2006, where he placed 5th place in the World Sumo Championship.
Kelly Gneiting broke the Guinness World Record for "Heaviest Person to Complete a Marathon" by crossing the finish at the Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday.
The former U.S. sumo champion, who weighed in at Dodger Stadium on Sunday morning at exactly 400 pounds, finished the race in 9 hours, 48 minutes and 42 seconds.
Gneiting, of Ft. Defiance, Ariz., walked the last 18-plus miles of the race after jogging through the first 8 miles.
Markos Geneti won the men's event, setting a Los Angeles Marathon record with a time of 2:06:35. Buzunesh Deba gave Ethiopia a sweep, taking the women's race in 2:26:34.
Over the past few years, we have witnessed tragic events regarding black women.
In 2013, Miriam Carey drove dangerously close to both the White House and Capitol Building, with her 1-year old child inside, before she was gunned down by police.
In July, Sandra Bland, driving in Texas, was stopped for a traffic infraction. She ended upbeing arrested, and was later found dead in her cell. A suicide, according to official reports.
In Las Vegas this week, Lakeisha Holloway drove her car into a crowd of people, killing 1, injuring 37. Herr 3-year child was with her.
While we can look at these as isolated incidents, one cannot help seeing them from a larger context of the mindset of black women in America, compounded by mental illness.
Either way, the social implications are glaring and demand urgent and immediate attention.
I would be remiss not to acknowledge the courage, decency and faith, displayed by a group of Muslims in Kenya, who stood up to a band of terrorists who wanted to kill the Christians with whom they rode, on a bus.
Because of this, only 2 were killed. Allah Bless their souls - whatever their faith - AMEEN!
(They are) those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right,- (for no cause) except that they say, "our Lord is Allah". Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, in which the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure. Allah will certainly aid those who aid his (cause);- for verily Allah is full of Strength, Exalted in Might, (able to enforce His Will).
