On today's show I am joined by Next Level Sports writers Samar Gaines and Eddie McDonald and we'll talk about the defensive player of the year candidates in the NBA. These include, but are not limited to, Roy Hibbert, Joakim Noah, Marc Gasol, and a few others.
Albany State All-American defensive back Dexter Moody was named SIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Moody, rated as one of Division II's top defensive backs, was all over the field this season and was the field general for the top defensive unit in the SIAC. The senior from Twin City, Georgia finished the season with 45 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for losses, a forced fumble, a block punt, and three interceptions. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 SIAC Football Championship game. A two-sport athlete in football and baseball, Moody led the SIAC in interceptions, in 2012.
Rosie Nix former MAC Defensive Player of the Year (Freshman) joins the NFL Draft College2Pro.com show. Nix is on his way to play in the Medal of Honor Bowl, in South Carolina. A game where NFL Scouts and coaches will be able to get an up close look at this former Kent State stand out. Kent State senior Roosevelt Nix (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) was one of 22 defensive linemen named to SI.com's 2013 All-America Team. Earning Honorable Mention, Nix becomes just the second defensive player in program history to earn a spot on an SI.com All-America Team. Earlier this month, Nix became the first player in program history and fifth player in Mid-American Conference history to earn first team all-conference honors in four consecutive seasons. The two-year team captain earned spots on the Nagurski, Outland and Bednarik Watch lists in three straight seasons and was named to the Senior Bowl Watch List. Nix led the Golden Flashes in tackles for loss (13.0), sacks (3.5) and quarterback hurries (6), despite playing through injuries during much of the season. He also forced two fumbles, made 41 tackles, broke up five passes and blocked a kick. The only player in league history to be named Mid-American Conference Defensive player of the Year as a freshman, Nix finished as Kent State's career leader in tackles for loss (65.0) and forced fumbles (12). He also ranks second in career sacks (24.0).
This week on JetNation Radio your hosts Brandon Dowling and Angelo Berkowitz take a look at the defense. A lot has been made about the offseason moves that include signing Eric Decker and Chris Johnson. But the strength of a Rex Ryan team always falls on the shoulders of the front 7 on defense.
Brandon and Angelo will look at the defensive line and linebackers and discuss if there is enough talent there to cover up for the concerns in the secondary. What kind of year can we expect from Quinton Coples? Is Damon Harrison still hungry? Can Calvin Pace repeat his double digit sack performance from last season? Will Antwan Barnes return and have an impact on the pass rush?
We also take your calls and want to know what you think about the New York Jets.

Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL player won the Arthur Ashe Espy for courage on Thursday, July 17, 2014. The award was presented to him by Pro Wrestler and actor Duane “Rock” Johnson. On the way to the stage, he was congratulated first by a young man identified as his love interest then by St. Louis Rams Coach Jeff Fischer, Pro Football great Jim Brown and openly gay ABC news anchor Robin Roberts. Highlighting his tearful acceptance speech was a brief recant of words of encouragement he gave to a young woman who was contemplating suicide because she was gay. His exit from the stage was met with cheering applause.
The Michael Sam emotional speech at the Espys is the spin topic for the Brothers in the Virtual Living Room to discuss homosexuality according to the holy scriptures.
