The Virgin Mary appears to St. Catherine Laboure in 1830 giving us the “Miraculous Medal” that shows Mary standing on the moon and the Devil under her feet.
St Augustine said (354-430), “Since the devil is the head of original sin, this head it was that Mary crushed: for sin never had any entry into the soul of this Blessed Virgin, which was consequently free from all stain”.
As I kept thinking about this, I just wanted to reach out to God and thank him, even in this place. He has given us so much.
I couldn’t help thinking of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous identifying herself, “I am the Immaculate Conception”.
I thought of the wonders God has worked at Lourdes that even today miracles are happening. I understand that several thousand people go to Lourdes France everyday from around the world.
God promised us signs and wonders through his presence among his Church.
In 1411 at Ludbreg, in the chapel of the Count Batthyany’s castle, a priest was celebrating Mass. During the consecration of the wine, the priest doubted the truth of transubstantiation, and the wine in the chalice turned into Blood. Not knowing what to do, the priest embedded this relic in the wall behind the main altar. The workman who did the job was sworn to silence. The priest also kept it secret and revealed it only at the time of his death. After the priest’s revelation, news quickly spread and people started coming on pilgrimage to Ludbreg.
The Holy See later had the relic of the miracle brought to Rome, where it remained for several years. The people of Ludbreg and the surrounding area, however, continued to make pilgrimages to the castle chapel.
In the early 1500s, during the pontificate of Pope Julius II, a commission was convened in Ludbreg to investigate the facts connected with the Eucharistic miracle. Many people testified that they had received marvelous cures while praying in the relic’s presence. On April 14, 1513, Pope Leo X published a Bull permitting veneration of the holy relic which he himself had carried in procession several times through the streets of Rome. The relic was later returned toCroatia.
In the 18th century, northern Croatia was ravaged by the plague. The people turned to God to call upon His help, and the Croatian Parliament did the same. During the session held on December 15, 1739 in the city of Varazdin, they vowed to build a chapel at Ludbreg in honor of the miracle if the plague ended. The plague was averted, but the promised vow was only fulfilled in 1994, when democracy was restored in Croatia.
The Eucharistic miracle of Augsburg, is known locally as Wunderbarlichen Gutes –“The Miraculous Good”. It is described in numerous books and historical documents that can be consulted in the civic state library of Augsburg. A stolen Host was transformed into bleeding Flesh. In the course of the centuries, several analyses were completed of the Holy Particle that have always confirmed that human Flesh and Blood are present. Today the Convent of the Heileg Kreuz (Holy Cross) is taken care of by the Dominican Fathers.
1194, a woman from Augsburg who was particularly devoted to the Most Holy Sacrament, received Holy communion. After communion, without being noticed, she put the Host in a handkerchief, took the Blessed Sacrament home and placed the Eucharistic Species in a container of wax inside a cupboard. In those days it was very difficult to find tabernacles in the church so as to be able to practice Eucharistic Worship. Only in 1264, with the introduction of the Feast of Corpus Domini (Corpus Christi) did such devotion become commonplace.
Five years passed and on the 11th of May 1199, the woman, tormented by remorse, confessed to the superior of the convent of the Heilig Kreuz, Father Berthold, who had her bring the Host back. The priest opened up the wax covering that enclosed the Host and saw that the Holy Eucharist had been transformed into bleeding Flesh. The Host appeared “divided into two Parts connected together by the thin threads of the bleeding Flesh.” Father Berthold went immediately to the bishop of the city of Udalskalk who ordered that the Miraculous Host be “transferred, accompanied by the clergy and by the people into the cathedral and exhibited in an ostensorium of crystal for public worship.”
In the year 1603, in a small barrio of Caysasay, in the town of Taal, a fisherman by the name of
Juan Maningcad went out fishing and instead of casting his net on the sea, threw it into the nearby
river, and instead of catching fish, caught a little statue of the Blessed Virgin of the Immaculate
Conception about six inches high. Although it was soaked in water, it had a heavenly lustre and her
face twinkled like a star. Upon seeing this marvel, the startled Juan, being a pious and virtuous man
prostrated himself before the image and began to pray. He picked it up and brought it home. "No
one knew how the image got to the river, and according to the old folks, perhaps the image was
thrown by one of the Spaniards to pacify the ravages of the ocean during one of those expeditions
and somehow the waves pushed it to the river. Another opinion was that perhaps someone exploring
the river must have inadvertently dropped it. (Some believe it came from China.)
The news began to spread like lightning until it reached the priest in town, and the judge that
represented the King of Spain at that time. Without notice they immediately went to Juan
Maningcad's house and there they saw the beautiful image of the Mother of God. They knelt down
to venerate it, and took the image to Taal where a town fiesta was celebrated.
The widow of the Justice of the Peace by the name of Madam Maria Espiritu, was given the task of
caring for the image. She ordered a precious urn to be made for the image and kept it in her home.
Every evening she noticed that the urn turned empty and the image gone, but then in the morning it
would be back in its usual place.
Sometime after 450 AD (the date is uncertain), the Virgin Mary appeared, after an earthquake, to a monk of Saint-Severus of Syrian origin. She was kneeling at the edge of a rock. The kneeling Virgin allegedly stopped a flood by her prayers. According to legend, the rock kept the imprint of the apparition's knees. Hundreds of faithful still venerate Our Lady of the Kneeling today (Notre-Dame de l'Agenouillade). (The Miracle Hunter)
On the borders between Colombia and Ecuador is a beautiful sanctuary, a wonder to its visitors. There is a venerated image of Our Lady of Las Lajas, and thousands and thousands of pilgrims from both countries visit each year and obtain many favors from God.
Back in the eighteenth century, María Mueses de Quiñones, a local woman from the village of Potosi, Colombia, often walked the six miles between her village and the neighbouring one of Ipiales. One day in 1754 as she was making the journey, she approached the place called Las Lajas (the Rocks), where the trail passes through a deep gorge of the Guaitara River. Maria never liked this part of the trail because there were rumors that a cave in Las Lajas was haunted. Such superstitions remained among the converted Christian Indians.
The Venerable Mother Mariana de Jesus Torreswas praying before the Tabernacle at the Church in Quito Ecuador when she beheld a great vision. Early morning as she was praying before the tabernacle, it began to illuminate as if it was daylight. The door of the tabernacle opened as if by an unseen hand.
Dr. Gregory Thompson and I have done research on many Eucharistic Miracles and many times have we seen this radiance, this unknown light. Also there have been times when angels took the Blessed Sacrament from the tabernacle and given it to those destined for such a great blessing from God. What Mother Mariana was witnessing certainly miraculous, this is not solely unique.
With the tabernacle door being opened, coming from within this bright light emerged Jesus, His holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. John the Apostle, and finally Mary Magdalene. In this vision, a life size Jesus standing near the Altar, began to be in agony.
In seeing this vision, Mother Mariana asked Our Lady, “My Lady, am I guilty? The Virgin Mary responded,“You are not guilty, but rather the sinful world”. Editors note: The Virgin Mary was not saying that Mother Mariana was sinless, but that the Virgin Mary is referring to the sins of the world specifically. Mother Mariana was being called here to do sacrifice for others as a handmaid of the Lord.
Then a voice coming from Heaven, the voice of Our Heavenly Father exclaimed, “This punishment will be for the 20th Century” (and beyond). Above the vision of Jesus came three swords that appeared with the words, heresy, blasphemy, and impurity. These swords would mark the 20th Century’s cold faithless time in human history.
St. Ambrose writes: “What shall I say about his reverence in the worship of God? One episode will suffice. Before being fully initiated into the sublime mysteries (First Communion), he experienced a shipwreck. When the ship on which he was traveling ran aground on some reefs and while, all around, the waves were tearing it apart, he was not afraid of dying but of having to die without having been nourished by the Sacred Mysteries. So he asked for the Eucharist from those whom he knew to be initiated into the Divine Sacrament of the Faithful and placed the Holy Eucharist in a handkerchief, which he hung around his neck. Then he threw himself into the sea and looked for a plank loosened from the hulk of the ship to hang on to, but did not try to swim away to save himself, because he had put his trust only in the weapons of the faith. Since he was convinced that he was sufficiently protected and defended by this faith, he did not look for any other help. “Then, as soon as he was saved from the waves and reached land, he paid tribute to the Leader to whom he had entrusted himself. As soon as he was saved and realized all his servants had been saved, he went to the church of God, without complaining about the goods he had lost, to thank Him for having saved him and to get to know His Eternal Mysteries. He said there was no more important duty than that of giving thanks… He who had experienced the great help of the Heavenly Mysteries wrapped in a handkerchief considered it important to consume the Holy Eucharist and receive the Eucharistic Christ into the depths of his heart.”
John Carpenter presents two interesting Marian apparitions in France that are lesser known (Veney and Qurian France) which should be very interesting.
In some Eucharistic Miracles, an image appears on the host. The miracle of Eten, Peru, for instance, began on June 2, 1649. That night, as Fr. Jèrome Silva was about to replace the monstrance in the tabernacle, he saw in the host the image of a child with thick brown curls that fell to his shoulders. He held the host up to show the image to those present. They all agreed that it was an image of the Christ Child.
A second apparition took place the following month. During the exhibition of the Eucharist, the Child Jesus appeared again in the host, dressed in a purple habit over a shirt that covered his chest, as was the custom of the local Indians, the Mochicas. It was felt at the time that the divine Child wanted to show his love for the Mochicas. During this apparition, which lasted about fifteen minutes, many people also saw in the host three small white hearts, thought to symbolize the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. The celebration in honor of the Miraculous Child of Eten still attracts thousands of people to Peru each year.
One of the more recent verified miracles was of a similar nature. It began on April 28, 2001, in Trivandrum, India. Fr. Johnson Karoor was saying Mass when he saw three dots on the consecrated host. He stopped reciting the prayers and stared at the Eucharist. He then invited those at Mass to look, and they also saw the dots. He asked the faithful to remain in prayer, and he placed the Holy Eucharist in the tabernacle.
In Ecuador in 1611, the Virgin Mary said, “in what is today the Colony and will then be the Republic of Ecuador”, she says, “Satan will reign almost completely by means of the Masonic sects”.
Consider the time of President Franklin Roosevelt? He was President for four terms, while he was in the White House, he stacked the Supreme Court with his Mason Justices. This is important because with this change came the Court’s ruling of “Separation of Church and State”, that was never part of the America mind set, it was not part of the U.S. Constitution. With the secularization of the Court came decisions that took the Bible out of public schools, took prayer out of schools, brought about Abortion, and now Gay Marriage. How soon we forget the warning of 2 Chronicles 7:19-21.
“The secular Clergy will leave much to be desired because priests will become careless in their sacred duties. Lacking the divine compass, they will stray from the road traced by God for the priestly ministry, and they will become attached to wealth and riches, which they will unduly strive to obtain. How the Church will suffer during this dark night! Lacking a Prelate and Father to guide them with paternal love, gentleness, strength, wisdom and prudence, many priests will lose their spirit, placing their souls in great danger. This will mark the arrival of My hour.” “Therefore, clamor insistently without tiring and weep with bitter tears in the privacy of your heart, imploring your Celestial Father that, for love of the Eucharistic Heart of my Most Holy Son and His of Precious Blood shed with such generosity and the profound bitterness and sufferings of His cruel Passion and Death, He might take pity on His ministers and bring to an end those Ominous times, sending to this Church the Prelate who will restore the spirit of its priests.”
Our Lady told Venerable Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres warning as early as February 2, 1611, “Woe to those of the 20th Century… Great calamities will befall the people of this epoch”.
Early in the morning of January 21, 1610, the Archangels St. Michael, St. Gabriel andSt. Raphael appeared to Mother Mariana. Just like the Children of Fatima, we see angels preparing handmaids of the Lord for a visit from Our Blessed Mother! Then Our Lady appeared to her and predicted many things about our own times: this is part of what Mother Mariana afterwards related that she told her:
“…. I make it known to you that from the end of the 19th century and shortly after the middle of the 20th century…. the passions will erupt and there will be a total corruption of customs (morals)….
“As for the Sacrament of Matrimony… it will be attacked and deeply profaned… The Catholic spirit will rapidly decay; the precious light of the Faith will gradually be extinguished… Added to this will be the effects of secular education, which will be one reason for the dearth of priestly and religious vocations.”
Look at the attack on marriage today, the United States Supreme Court’s ruling about “Gay Marriage”, that is a public scandal. But consider how marriage has been down played in the 20th century? The rise of Divorce and remarriage even without annulments, 50-70% of children born outside of wedlock, children being raise without Fathers, all this is adding to the break up of the family.
