Deepertruth: Stories From the Catholic Defender

    in Religion

Father Hopper serves two Catholic Parishes in the Archdiocese of Lexington Kentucky.Tonight, Father Hopper will give his testimony of his road to the Catholic Faith.

Matthew 4:18-22 is the story of the call of the first Disciples. Today, the Lord is still calling forth men who are willing to drop everything to answer this call.

“Duc in Altum” means to “Put out into the deep” (Luke 5:4)! Here Jesus instructed Simon (Peter) to “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Jesus is calling all of us to be fishers of men.

Here at Deepertruth, we set out to go forth into the deep water where we can delve into the mystery of our Holy Catholic Faith (Ephesians 3:1-3).

I am honored to have served with Father Hopper in Korea and played a small part of his coming home to the Catholic Faith.

The Virgin Mary was instrumental in calling Father Hopper to be one of her sons making him a prince of the Church (Psalms 45:17).

In answering her call, Father Hopper has chosen the higher portion of serving Christ becoming a priest in His Kingdom (Revelation 5:10).

1 Peter 2:9-10 states, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were ‘no people’ but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.”

Deepertruth: Journey With Mary, John Carpenter at Poplar Bluff Missouri

    in Religion

John Carpenter was raised in a Methodist church, his father was a Minister of a Methodist congregation. On Deepertruth, John Carpenter will give his conversion story how he has come to accept the Catholic Faith. Since his conversion, John has developed a great interest in the Virgin Mary. He began investigating Marian apparitions bring a wholeness of faith into his life.

John has been featured on Deepertruth each and every Sunday night focusing on many of these Marian apparitions. The show is called Journey with Mary as we go from one country to another in time and space.

John also works at the Diocesan level helping the local Bishop of Springfield Missouri, he is a part of the Southern Missouri Marian Association, and is part of Deepertruth. He speaks at conferences where he is becoming more sought after for his study of Marian apparitions.

John has certainly become an important figure for Deepertruth as he has helped co-host conversion stories of other Catholics. John’s professional background, a field of psychology, gives him a unique perspective in studying the seers of Our Lady from Heaven.  Tonight, John will give his conversion story.

We are all called to follow the Lord in all that we are and I think this is why conversion stories are so important to many of us. They offer hope in times of despair. Because we are living in an evil age, St. Paul writes, ”And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper.” Romans 1:28

    Deepertruth: The Bryan Thatcher Story

    in Religion

Another terrific speaker I was pleased to meet at the Poplar Bluff Conference was Bryan Thatcher, and what a story he has. He was a Doctor who basically gave up all his career to become founder of the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy.

Bryan gave his testimony of how he came to a closer walk with the Lord through discovering the presence of the Lord in the Eucharist, Our Lady, through St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy. He spoke of his world wide mission for the Divine Mercy.

Bryan also focused on the Divine Mercy for the sick and dying.

    Deepertruth Wednesday Springfield remembered

    in Religion

The event was sponsored by the Marian Association of Southern Missouri headed by Father Vincent Bertrand (Deepertruth Chaplain) and Dr. Gregory Thompson.

I flew up to Springfield Missouri flying from Killeen Texas to Dallas and finally to Springfield.

I had the opportunity to meet Country and Western Singer Charley Pride and some of his band who also flew to Springfield Missouri for a concert.

While still waiting for my luggage at the Springfield airport, I found myself speaking with missionaries from Nicaragua and gave them a couple of my brochures I had on hand.  I wanted to ensure they heard a strong defense for the Catholic Faith.

Dr. Gregory Thompson met me at the Springfield airport and quickly took me to Mercy Hospital formerly known as St. Johns to go to a quick Mass.

The Hospital Chapel was by far the most beautiful church I've seen in a hospital location.

I went to Confession immediately following the Mass so I was able to receive two Sacraments before the weekend actually began.

Deepertruth: Seth D Ball, The Converted Catholic Story

    in Religion

Tonight we have another great story of a young teenager who is making the decision to follow Christ in His Catholic Church.  Seth D Ball (16 years old) is a young man who is on fire for the Lord.  He has recently joined the Rosary Patrol here at Deepertruth, and he also leads an internet Rosary on Sunday evenings.  His faith is already making a huge difference.

Romans 8:37, St. Paul writes, "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."  2 Corinthians 2:14 states, "But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.

Tonight, 1/10/2015, Seth D. Ball will appear on Deepertruth to give his story coming home to the Catholic Faith.  When we are talking about the great people today making a difference, the most important are those who choose to follow the Lord.  St. Jude writes, "keep yourselves in the love of God; wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."

In history we read about great men and women who made a difference in their lives shaping and improving the world. I can think of many here in America. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, Willis Carrier invented the air conditioner, and Henry Ford invented the moving assembly line just to name some examples. We basically have hundreds of such conveniences that we enjoy today. Al Gore claims to have invented the internet? I’m not sure about that one, but here we are and what a great opportunity we have using the internet.  There is no greater reward that to be given the gift of faith in Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Deepertruth: Sunday to Sunday With Christie Martin

    in Religion

    Jesus said:
    “I am the good shepherd.
A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A hired man, who is not a shepherd
and whose sheep are not his own,
sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away,
and the wolf catches and scatters them.
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.
    I am the good shepherd,
and I know mine and mine know me,
    just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.
These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice,
and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
This is why the Father loves me,
because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own.
I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.
This command I have received from my Father.”

Deepertruth: Eucharistic Miracle of Ponferrada, SPAIN, 1533

    in Religion

Juan De Benavente lived in Ponferrada with his wife. It was apparent that he was very devout and religious. In fact every evening he stopped in church to pray.  One day, during his prayer time, he succumbed to greed and seized the tabernacle, a simple wooden container, in which there was a precious silver ciborium containing some consecrated Hosts.

He fled from the church and headed towards the Sil River in order to pitch the cheap wooden tabernacle, but when he tried to launch it into the water he could not because of its sudden immense weight. So he returned home where he hid everything and said nothing to his wife. During the night continuous flashes of light came from the tabernacle, arousing the suspicion of his wife. So Juan decided to go out and dispose of his sacrilegious stolen goods.

He reached a place the townspeople called the Arenal Field and threw the tabernacle and consecrated Hosts into the middle of the blackberry patch. The discovery of the crime brought dismay among all of the population and Juan became increasingly nervous and anxious, also because he did not know how to sell the silver ciborium without getting caught.

Near the Arenal Field, the owner of the land, Diego Nuñez de Losada, set up a target practice for entertainment during the feast days. During the time frame in which the sacred Hosts were still in the blackberry patch, eyewitnesses reported seeing flashes of light at night and strange doves hovering during the day. The crossbowmen tried in vain to hit the doves. The miller Nogaledo decided then to capture the doves with his own hands and ventured into the blackberry patch, discovering the tabernacle and the sacred Hosts from where the intense flashes of light originated.

Queen of the Holy Rosary, you have designed to come to Fatima to reveal to the three shepherd children the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary. Inspire my heart with a sincere love of this devotion, in order that by meditating on the Mysteries of our Redemption which are recalled in it, I may obtain peace for the world, the conversion of sinners, and the favor which I ask of you in this Rosary (Mention your request). Deepertruth: The Virgin Mary and The Philippines Part II

    in Religion

Last week John Carpenter looks at the posibility of Mother Mary appearing in the Philippines between 1988-1993.  It is still under investigation, so we can't say this is total fact, but we are looking at the information that is being studied.  Many signs reported match many other authorized Marian apparitions.  An estimated one million people gathered in a small Philippine town north of Manila on 6 March to witness a visitation of the Virgin Mary. Many people in the crowd, including top Philippine government officials, journalists, and the local Catholic bishop - acting as a representative of the Pope - attested to seeing a silhouette resembling the Virgin Mary appear above a guava tree for approximately five seconds. This was followed several minutes later by flashes of red, yellow and blue lights moving towards a "dancing sun".

The events took place at Apparition Hill in the small town of Agoo, in La Union province. A visionary boy, 16-year-old Judiel Nieva, says that the Virgin Mary has been appearing to him, and giving him messages, on the first Saturday of every month and on special religious feasts since 1989. The pilgrims gathered in Agoo on 6 March because the boy said the Virgin would appear at that particular place and time.

About a month earlier, a statue of the Virgin Mary owned by Judial Nieva's family began regularly weeping tears of blood. The phenomenon was witnessed by thousands during a noontime mass in February. An assistant to the nationâs President said that the statue was brought before his critically ill wife on two occasions, and both times she unexpectedly recovered. There are also reports that Communion wafers turn to flesh and blood in Nievaâs mouth. Another resident of the area said that his statue of the Virgin was also "shedding tears, which later turn blood red."
