Debut author Audrey Kinsmen joins Kori on the Back Porch

    in Books

Audrey Kinsman (on your right) is the author and creator of Halloween’s newest tradition Switchcrafted: The Story of the Switch Witches of Halloween (available September, 2014). A proud mother of two young boys, Kinsman struggled with finding a solution to the piles of candy that her two sons collected while trick-or-treating in 2013. An inspiration on a cross-country flight lead to the creation of the Switchcrafted: The Story of the Switch Witches of Halloween.

The 20 page beautifully illustrated hardcover book and 8.5″ Witch doll come in a hard cover box with a Switchcrafted trick or treat bag. The product provides a story and platform for families to start a new Halloween tradition with their children by getting rid of all the sugary Halloween treats and exchanging them for something healthier.and all because the Witches need their candy for fuel (energy, heat, broom fuel). For all children ages 3 and up.

Debut Author Vincent Robert Annunziato join Lori Hays on Behind the Words

    in Books

Join host Lori Hays on Behind the Words for a conversation with author Vincent Robert Annunziato.

    Saturday, March 29th 10:30 CDT/11:30 EDT

    In his own words:

I am currently a government employee in charge of managing one of the largest Civilian IT projects in the nation. I am very happily married for almost 20 years and the father of three children. I have been on a tear to fulfill several personal dreams of mine that stemmed from my twenties. The first one was to build a large terrarium with the eventual goal to put in a very exotic lizard called a Panther Chameleon. The second personal goal which should be of no surprise was to write a novel. Both of which I have completed although I still have not purchased the Chameleon.

Join David Homick, author of a metaphysical novel

    in Spirituality

After years of working in the banking industry in Central New York, David Homick left his suits behind for a more casual gig as a freelance Web Designer. "I love the creative aspect of my work, which was not something that was encouraged growing up.” Perhaps it is all that pent up creative energy that has motivated him to express himself now between the covers of a book.

It took 54 years for Homick to pick up the pen, or in this case the laptop, and start writing his first novel. That's a lot of life experience to draw on. Much of his inspiration comes from his recent interest in spiritual, metaphysical, and so-called paranormal activity.

His first novel, A Lifetime Last Night, is full of metaphysical wisdom and inspiration that is woven into an intriguing, contemporary love story. One of the underlying themes of the story, as well as his life, was inspired by a favorite quote from George Eliot. "It's never too late to be what we might have been."

A second novel, as yet untitled, is currently in the works. "It's who I am now. I'll never stop writing." Homick dreams of quitting his day job to pursue his writing career full-time.

The Week In Rewiews - Author Matthew D. Heines

    in Books

Matthew published two books about his time in Oman working as a teacher of English. My Year In Oman and Aonther Year In Oman. Both are excellent, and both offer a very interesting peek inside the upsides and downsides of working in a country with very different cultural values from America. Matthew writes with humor, and indeed a decade later he probably can see the humor, but I doubt that he smiled a great deal at the time.

People who are embarking on a teaching career in Oman or elsewhere in the region should read the books and ask some hard questions of themselves. Travel and adventure sounds great, but cultues can clash.
