Psychologist Dr. E. Douglass Brown will join us as our special guest speaker on this re-broadcast show by popular demand. Re: the topic today he says, "It is just as important to clean up after a storm as it is to learn how to endure a storm. Imagine what a neighborhood looks like after a storm if no one cleans up. Storm after storm, debris and wreckage just pile up. This scenario is liken to what happens when a child never or rarely sees individuals in arguments and conflicts reconcile with each other. There is no closure - no return to a sense that the world is both safe and caring. The child - now an adult - experiences repeated disagreements and disappointments, and is shackled to the view that his or her cynical negative feelings are just being "realistic" about life.
In tonight's show, the host will interview Deborah as she speaks about daily challengings that people face when trying to balance their work, home and relationship responsibilities with their health challenges. The role that religion plays in creating a positive prognosis.
Some of the people that participated in the era that is referred to as The Soul Music Era are household names. Their R&B/Soul foundations helped to establish them as Pop culture standards in America and the international community as well. Some of these great entertainers are the all time great The King Of Pop Michael Jackson, The Queen of Soul Areatha Franklin,Otis Redding,Isaac Hayes, The Godfather of Soul/Soul Brother Number One James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Carla Thomas, The Bar Kays, Earth Wind and Fire, Rare Earth and Stevie Wonder to name a few.
The media has brought to the forefront cases that have caused public outrage and concern. From the curious case of Trayvon Martin killed by George Zimmerman, Michael Brown gunned down as an unarmed felon, to the disturbing incidents surrounding the death of Sandra Bland, there is a definite rise in racial tensions across the United States as the media blares a giant searchlight on situations of African Americans in some sort of confrontation with a Caucasian.
When these incidents come into the public eye, they lead to an overarching question: "Why?" One black man made a very famous statement while being beaten by a group of police officers: "Can't we all just get along?" The statement has been taken seriously and at the same time, been made a parody. But the question, however one puts it remains. "Can't we all just get along?"
Is racism simply part of America's DNA -- what makes up this country? Is this just a thing we have to live with and accept? Will those who try to work to bring harmony on either side be ridiculed? Why can't we as a nation get past this? Why does it keep rearing its head?
Join in on the conversation with my returning guest Melissa Pellew as we try to tackle this issue and others surround the rise of racial tensions in our country. I am sick and tired of all these weaves, brown eyes, nappy hair under my wigs, disrespectful looks from caucasians and the general feeling that I do not belong and that god has made some mistakes in this world with all these breeds of people. I feel at the bottom of the pole and I cannot tell anyone! What can i do?
Hear exceprts from the new book by Dr Coppertino, in book stores Spring 2016, and know God never makes mistakes and how you are not alone!
