Welcome to the Seriouside of the jril show. We will be discussing the following topics this morning:
1st SEGMENT: EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK
The numbers are staggering!! Women only make 77 cents for every dollar that is earned by men. How can the GOP continue not to support the Lillie Ledbetter act?
2ND SEGMENT: ALL OUT ASSAULT ON THE BLACK VOTE
Requiring people to show ID to vote…nothing wrong with that right? It is when the main purpose of the law is to suppress the black vote!! We will discuss.
3RD SEGMENT: REVISITING THE DAVONTAE SANFORD STORY
Four people were gunned down in a suspected drug house in 2007. A 14-year-old, partially blind, learning-disabled boy named Davontae Sanford confessed. But a month later, a convicted hit man told police he was the real murderer. We have an update on this story..
This show will discuss the suspension of Roland Martin, The Case of Davontae Sanford in Detroit Michigan - http://www.change.org/petitions/new-trial-for-davontae-sanford
Last, we will discuss the attempted Wal Mart Kidnapping - http://www.nancylockhart.net
Joining us will be Attorney Kim McGinnis and Ms. Sanford (Davontae's Mother)
From The Associated Press: A Detroit hit man in prison for eight murders said he's willing to publicly take responsibility for four more to help clear a young man who claims he's innocent of the slayings and confessed at age 14 only to satisfy police.
Vincent Smothers' testimony would be the most crucial evidence yet to try to persuade a judge to throw out Davontae Sanford's guilty plea and free him from a nearly 40-year prison sentence. In an interview with The Associated Press, Smothers declared: "He's not guilty. He didn't do it."
Smothers said he never used a 14-year-old accomplice — blind in one eye and learning disabled — to carry out his paid hits, mostly victims tied to Detroit's drug trade. Ironically, there's no dispute that Smothers confessed to the so-called Runyon Street slayings when he was captured in 2008, but prosecutors have never charged him and never explained why.
"I understand what prison life is like; it's miserable. To be here and be innocent — I don't know what it's like," Smothers said of Sanford, who is now 19. "He's a kid, and I hate for him to do the kind of time they're giving him."
Told about the AP interview, Sanford's attorney said she soon would ask a judge to bring Smothers to court.
"If we can get Mr. Smothers up on the stand, it would be awesome for Davontae," Kim McGinnis said Monday.

Some would have you believe that women are the weaker vessel. Granted, some of us may be less physically endowed than some men, but weaker vessel? I cannot agree with that label. Women have made history by showing their strength during challenging times. Often times, it only took one woman to influence a movement or create a world of change for those around her and for generations to come. This strength often comes in times of oppression or as a means of survival. I think of women like Helen Keller, Rosa Parks, Malala and even Oprah Winfrey who broke the mold of ‘normal’ and created immeasurable opportunities for women today. This act of breaking molds, knocking down limitations, and creating opportunities extends even into the military, where women make up nearly 14.5% of the Armed Forces. Women like Cathay Williams broke down barriers that prohibited women from enlisting into the Armed Forces, although she had to pose as a man to get into the Army. Once she was in, however, she broke down the stereotypes that women were not capable of serving in the military. Over time, women have proven themselves to be invaluable members of the Armed Forces. Black women, who have been among the last ethnic/gender group to make significant strides in the military, continue to show themselves worthy of the accolades enjoyed by their male counterparts over the years. These women were among the ‘firsts,’ creating opportunities for generations of Black women, like us, to come behind them and enjoy successful military careers.

Today we are pleased to welcome Ralph Balestriere. Ralph is Chief Financial Officer, Redwing Shoes. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Accounting and Finance, then spent 17 or 18 years at CR Bard, a large global medical technology company, and was steadily promoted to become VP and GM International Finance and Administration. He went on to become CFO at Marconi Medical Systems and Teleflex Medical. I’ve known Ralph for about 10 years and we’ve had a lot of interesting conversations in that time. One of the things I like about him is that he is so unpretentious. What you see is what you get with Ralph.
I thought he would be a good guest for our program for two reasons:
Most of us (who aren’t finance executives) would probably admit that we don’t always understand what our CFO is thinking?
Ralph is a proven CFO with an excellent track record. And I believe he can help us understand what CFOs think and why. I suspect it will soon be evident that Finance executives are pretty much like the rest of us; and in the final analysis, they are on our side.
