Ontario Country artist CORY MARQUARDT has just released his debut album called This Man featuring the first single "21."
Cory returns as part of the Outlaws & Outsiders tour this June with dates in Ontario. The tour stars Aaron Pritchett and also features new country duo King & Cash.
His influences range from Eric Church to Merle Haggard - and from Rush to John Mayer. If it's a good song, it'll catch Cory's ear.
"I’m a huge fan of Eric Church and very happy with what he is doing in country music," explains Cory. "I still have some boot left to fill but I’m making my way and plan on doing that. Like me, he has a solid rock background mixed with some traditional country which is included especially in our live show."
Like most Canadian Country artists, the journey of writing and recording includes trips to Nashville.
"Since my first trip to Nashville in 2012, I’ve written over 100 songs with some amazing writers and have created some really cool and honest songs. Writing with people like Rob Crosby, Jason Deere, James Dean Hicks, my good friend Danick Dupelle from Emerson Drive, Patricia Conroy and many more make the writing process fun and quite easy."
Tune in to hear Cory talk about his music career, songwriting, Nashville, his new album & much more!
Despite battling scary head injuries, both Klay Thompson and Steph Curry lead the Golden State Warriors to a clinching Game 5 win and the Warriors first trip to the NBA Finals since 1975. Dave looks at how the Warriors' strong shooting and roster depth put them into a resounding series win against the Rockets and James Harden's efforts. What was lacking from the rest of the Rockets, Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, and the others? We then look ahead to this year's NBA Finals between the Warriors and the LeBron James led Cleveland Cavaliers, plus we look at the NHL Stanley Cup Conference Final Game 7's in Hour 2. The Blackhawks force the Ducks into a Game 7 in Anaheim, and the Rangers force the Tampa Bay Lightning into a Game 7 up in New York. A most epic, impressive, exciting series so far for the West Final between the Hawks and Ducks... what were the best moments of a spectacular 2015 West Final in the NHL? Game 4 goes into Double OT, Game 5 goes into single OT after the Blackhawks improbably tied it up down two with just 2 minutes left, only to lose to the Ducks in the OT. Game 6 showed mettle from the Blackhawks who responded greatly with big goals from Andrew Shaw and Marian Hossa to force the winner take all Game 7. How about Derek Brassard scoring a hat trick in a wacky 3rd period for the Rangers leading NY to a blowout 7-3 win in Tampa Bay? All this and more as we cover a big week in sports -- we may hear from the Junk Man on the road with his food truck tour plus much more from MLB on a most action packed DITCOW.
It was in December 1959 that Alvin Lee Johnson (born June 20, 1939) entered Cosimo Matassa’s recording studio. He emerged from the studio on Governor Nicholls Street with what would be a belated hit song and a new name, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson. Joe Ruffino produced the recording session for his Ric label and Carnival Time eventually joined Professor Longhair’s Go to the Mardi Gras and Big Chief, and the Hawkettes’ Mardi Gras Mambo as classics of the New Orleans Mardi Gras.
Johnson, like so many New Orleans musicians, grew up in the city’s Ninth Ward where he played trumpet and piano. Born in 1939, he was influenced early on by Sugar Boy Crawford, Fats Domino, and Smiley Lewis.
Alvin Johnson, best known for his famous song, "Carnival Time," has been a New Orleans Mardi Gras icon for over 40 years. A Rhythm & Blues performer, Al is a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival veteran and has worked with the likes of Aaron Neville, Oliver Morgan, Bobby Lonero as well as (the late Tommy Ridgley, Jessie Hill, Bobby Mitchell, Eddie Bo & Ernie K-Doe)
Al has performed on the "Louisiana Jukebox" TV program and been the star of a highly successful Louisiana Lottery Mardi Gras campaign. Al has also been the subject of numerous articles in Mardi Gras Guide, New Orleans Magazine, Offbeat Magazine, The Louisiana Weekly, The Times Picayune, and Gambit Weekly.
Also on the show, we have an amazing local New Orleans team...."Dave and Rose"...these fine local musicians will share their music and perspective regarding the 10 years after Katrina... Please join us for a fest of great music and perspective from NOLA musicians...

New Brunswick's MIKE LEBLANC brought his traditional country sound to the Cadillac Lounge this spring as part of Canadian Music Week. He played songs off his album Alive And Well.
Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Mike moved at a young age - along with his family - to a small town called Collette, NB. Growing up, there was always music playing in the house or people jamming with their guitars and other instruments. Mike's first public appearance was at 7 years old in church. He didn't know he could sing back then but his teacher knew right away.
At 15, Mike entered a local singing contest and took everyone by surprise with his covers of songs by Randy Travis. From that point on, he was frequently asked to do amateur shows and house parties. When he reached the age of 17, he joined his first band and played all over the province and into the U.S. In 1999, he packed his instruments and his clothes and headed towards Calgary, Alberta to see what the music industry had to offer there. He was hired by a band called Uptown Riders three days upon his arrival to the big city. The band toured all over Western Canada for a few years.
In 2011, Mike's songwriting went into high gear. In this period, he wrote songs such as "When I'm Good" and "We Lived On" which were the first songs to be created for the album Alive and Well. His influences range from George Jones to Merle Haggard to Waylon Jennings to Travis Tritt. You can hear those influences in the way he sings a country song.
