The annual Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) published in April was the biggest and most jam-packed ever, with loads of data and trend nuggets that didn't necessarily catch the eye of the media or the public.
Marc Spitler, co-author of the Verizon DBIR, in the next episode of Dark Reading Radio will share some of those lesser-known but most intriguing tidbits from the massive report that captures the attention of the security community every year. Among some of the findings that may have gotten lost in the shuffle: the long-term trend in point-of-sale compromises, how mobile is not a factor in real-world attacks, the role of system admin errors, and some of the lesser-known impacts of a breach.
Spitler will drill down on these and other elements of the DBIR on Dark Reading Radio’s upcoming episode, which will be hosted by Kelly Jackson Higgins, executive editor of Dark Reading.
Recent data breaches involving Target and other major corporations have attracted national attention. Attracting less attention are small and mid-size businesses that could be even more vulnerable.
Joining us today is Jeff Lanza, an FBI Special Agent who investigated corruption, fraud, organized crime, cybercrime, human trafficking and terrorism for more than 20 years. Today he discusses with us why smaller organizations are more vulnerable to cybercrime, how they can protect themselves and their customers from threats, and the steps a company should take in the aftermath of a cyber-attack.
Jeff travels widely as a keynote speaker and appears regularly on Fox News, CNBC as well as The Today Show, Good Morning America, Dateline and NPR’s Marketplace.

Elizabeth Lions joins me again today to discuss “Why Women Compete With Each Other”. Why do women compete with each other? Is it biological? According to Psychology Today, women’s competition breaks down into two categories – self promotion and competitor degregation. How does unhealthy competition play out in the office? The data around why women don’t need men, and therefore don’t need to compete. NOTE: due to technical difficulties, there is a 2-minute delay in the beginning of the show audio.
