Daniel Nsomekela is the founder of the National Christian Organization for the Disabled (NACODI), whose objective and focus is to vigorously participate in addressing and advocating for the needs of the physically handicapped persons (PCPs or disabled). Daniel will discuss the purposes and objectives of the organization and some personal challenges he has faced in life whilst endeavoring for the best.
Daniel has been with the National Christian Organization for the Disabled -NACODI, an NGO operating in Zambia with its Headquarters at University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka for 10 yrs. The organization founded in 2000 was registered in 2003, under the Registrar of Societies. Its main purpose is to co-ordinate, mobilize resources and provide support to individuals with varying constraints of physical and mental disabilities. The Organization is represented with members and mediators in other part of the Country through volunteer agents or mediators (mutual friends).
More than 100 NACODI members have already been aided, connected and benefited from the Housing, the initiative of the Habitat for Humanity / Lions Club 413. In 2008, NACODI received a grand donation of 100 Wheelchairs and 50 pairs of Clutches from Joni and Friends of which 30 has been distributed to disabled who reside in the urban areas-(Lusaka) and the other 70 wheelchairs and clutches are await to be sent to rural areas for distributions.
This week , we are discussing how to Improve linkage with international religious organization, Christian communities, Nonprofit Organization conduit of African Disability policy and means of implementation. We share means that shows how to create a sound, knowledge based, planning tools that aid implementation that increase african countries capacity to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the practical outreach to people with disablity. Who should be stakeholders in disability inclusion? This week will have open discussion on Africa Disability in focus; will be identifying stakeholders in Africa, the bigger picture on how we can develop means that will enhance disability inclusion. We will review obstacles that make it difficult for disabled to participate in social development especially in Zambia.
We will be talking to Mr. Takunda Denya based in South Africa , he is a 31 year old man, with a below knee left leg amputation due accident and currently a junior bookkeeper for a fund management company in Johannesburg South Africa.
MR. Denya is initially from Zimbabwe but currently residing & working in South Africa. He will be sharing with us on the challenges Disabled have faced in Zimbabwe in past decades since the political malaise that erupted. The Disabled were one of the most affected considering the withdrawal of International aid by donor Organizations. Mr. Denya will walk us through realities of Disabled desperation and suffering in Zimbabwe.
Mr. Denya says it is very challenging to live in Zimbabwe as a disabled due to an imaginable political problem that rocked Zimbabwe as a country in the past decade. He will share why it is difficult for international Organization to work in Zimbabwe.
On other hand Ms. Mary from Uganda and the Director of Uganda Disabled Women Association , our coordinating pattern in East Africa will also be joining us to continue to share the problem of disabled face to find work in Uganda, we will compare with situation in Zambia , and Humphrey from Zambia who will be giving his experience Disabled in Zambia.
